In 2010, Gandy became the first male model to be nominated for ‘Model of the Year’ by the British Fashion Council. Since being scouted by fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana for his muscular build, Gandy has marked a transition within the industry towards favouring more traditionally masculine models and has since toured internationally as the brand’s ambassador.

He is that almost rare and seemingly perfect guy. He’s masculine, acting as well as looking. He’s macho without being aggressive. He seems like he’s cool, calm and collected all the time. I saw him being interviewed once and he said something that I liked and agreed with, which is that he feels a man should be a man. He once said he’s always had a lot of female friends. He’s comfortable around women and not just because he’s hot to look at. He always seems respectful. I like that he always dresses nice when he’s being interviewed. He could have been the perfect James Bond since Sean Connery. He’s the eternal male model...but who has other things going on.

Very classic good looks from another time. That said, there should be a wider range of good looks available so that everyone can see "someone like themselves" and good looks should be considered timeless, not fit into neat little boxes, so that everyone has the same look. The most interesting thing about David Gandy, is that he had a plan, moves to achieve his goals, and has a wonderful concept about giving multicultural designs a place. I was impressed when he stated his feelings about Native American's being the models for fashions that were based on their culture, or if the style of a show was corn rows then black models should be given the lead. Also, that there is a difference between making a profit off of other cultures and a single person respecting a culture and dressing to honor it. I think in the case he mentioned, where the girl wore a vintage oriental dress, the trolls were probably not of that culture. In Cosplay, which is a burgeoning industry there are many designs based on Chinese and Japanese style. Having attended many Cons, no one who is of those cultures ever complains. They appreciate interest in their cultures, and join right in. It is the most friendly and open group of people ever.

Politicised interviewer bombarding poor Gandy with awful questions about politics in fashion. Still, he has some very respectable views.
Coffee Arts awful? How? I thought they were relevant and interesting.
The questions pander to notion that fashion HAS to represent someone's viewpoint instead of purely representing someone's artistic expression. That's why Gandy struggled to answer the question about whether fashion should be apolitical - he knows full well that it's being politicised, much to his dismay.
Coffee Arts no, she asked if that was what he thought. It wasnt a leading queastion in any way, she just gave him two scenarios.
Alternatively she mightn't have asked those questions at all and leave any idea of politics in fashion at the door. "here's what I think, do you think it too?"
no i think that would be poor interviewing. it makes for more interesting interviews if you can talk about things that might be controversial. it doesnt mean she tries to push some sort of agenda, just that she wants to hear his point of view.

Supply and demand. There are far more products for women to sell from designers and other products in addition to clothing (I.e. lingerie, underwear, makeup, fragrance, shoes, tons of accessories, outerwear, etc., and these items are heavily shopped by women and by men for women). Men shop far less. This is starting to change as more products and wardrobe choices are being created for men this will change. But given fashion is very much a supply and demand business, it’s only fair that female models get paid more. The sell of these products provide millions and millions of money and publicity for designers. These models contribute greatly to the purchase of these products.
