    Born in 1982. Pretty sure I had the greatest childhood ever. The best music, cartoons, tv shows, video games. Graduated in 2000 to bring in a new millennium and here we are 24 years later and the world is confused about everything. Wish I could relive those years. Life was so much easier and better then.

      Don't sweat it bro. I consider those days to be days of blissful ignorance. We now have all the information now and everything that was, at our fingertips via the internet. There's nothing we can hide from now, so of course there's a lot of impropriety and injustice that we have to come to terms with, but with great power comes great weight! But chin up bro, society is improving by leaps and bounds even if it doesn't seem like it at times, the best is yet to come. Still this song will always be a banger though!

      This like many other songs that came from the Pacific Northwest is about Andrew Wood ( lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who found Eddie Vedder after his death and became Pearl Jam. Andy was also Chris Cornell's roommate.) So Andy's death impacted the local Seattle music scene. Immensely."Would by Alice in Chains is also about him. The entire Temple of the Dog project was a tribute to him from his roommate Chris and Andy's band to Andy.)

      @garrettlyang3324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Don't be too hard on yourself, there is not a lot of good information about the disease of addiction that goes too far below the surface. The first thing that most people don't get is that again this is a DISEASE and that the behavior of the addict is not the result of some character flaw or lack or morality.
      Addicts can certainly hurt others, especially their loved ones with erratic and what looks like very selfish behavior. What needs to be understood is that they are not having a good time or enjoying themselves and often feel desperate and broken. Add being judged and shunned to the list and that's what they are dealing with. Maybe someday they can come up with something to alter the addiction gene. I had a coworker whose brother was a heroin addict but found some real help with something called Naltrexone. We need the medical community to create the Naltrexones for other drugs.

    l am 47 years old now. I am a father of 2 a stepdad of 6. I am a Pastor now. But as I sit here listening to this while at work. It took me straight back to those days of pain and misery. But also back to the friendships and relationships I had. That I miss...I was a homeless meth dealer that had a good heart in a dark world. I loved a lot and lost a lot. But I would not change any of it. God has taken all that pain and loss and turn it into something awesome. I now can love, help and understand those who are living in that same dark conciousness

    Generation X created a lot of sad songs. We were the throwaway children from broken marriages and selfish parents (not all obviously). We were handed a country in decline and told we were slackers. My mother married 5 times and I was dropped off to live with grandparents. I stayed married and raised children who are doing well. I'm battling stage IV cancer for 5 years and still going. Life never gets any easier, but we were trained well.

    We were trained to be independent thinkers. Mother was widowed at 29. It was 1985 I was 9 years old. My father was murdered. My mother had to pick up the pieces. She went through hell for my siblings and me. She taught me how to survive and thrive. God rest her beautiful soul. ❤

    This was my best friends favorite song way back in the day. He was two years older than me and more like a brother than friend. We both married(best men in each others weddings), moved away, had kids and lost touch. I moved back to my hometown a decade later and so did he. We never got the chance to make new memories or even relive the old ones because he was taken by ALS. I miss him but I really feel for his kids because they never got to know how awesome he was. I guess if you are reading this, I want you to cherish those you love and let them know. You don't always get another chance.

    I spent 10 years as a raging alcoholic... Contemplating suicide every day. Fighting demons and hurting my loved ones in the process. People I thought was my friends. I'm so glad I can say I am 9 years sober as of February 15th 2021. No more tears. No more suffering. Loving life to the fullest and being thankful a song could touch me the way this one does. If you haven't been there, you will never know how much this song speaks to an addict. Well for me it does anyways.

      Been there done that, with many many things I regret but have to live with that I know would never have happened if I'd taken a different path in life. Hey I'm an oldie but a goodie, I quit 30 years ago and have never missed it one time. What is now my ex burnt me out on it, he had hep C and the more drs told him to quit drinking the more he drank till he finally drank enough. I had quit drinking one day, kicked him out the next day then quit smoking the next day, I was cleaning house! I've never missed any of them. I was lucky, because I hated it so bad I just got up one day and said no more, same with the smoking and was able to do it. It's a whole new life isn't it? And it is awesome! I wish everyone going thru the misery of it could do the same as we did. I'm very happy for you.

    I lost my brother at 17, followed by 3 best friends and a second father before I turned 25. My fiance passed when I was 33. I had a terrible bone infection at 35 and colon cancer when I was 38. I've been left far behind many times. This is a good song, but y'all need to stop putting your energy into people you'll never know and start holding on to the ones you have. Get some self confidence and beat the odds. Stay strong for your family and help whoever you can. Just do the right thing daily and sleep well at night. God bless and good luck...it's gonna take all of us to make it.

    I sat down to learn this song this morning in honor of my late friend, Shannon. Tears began to stream down my face and I had to stop. I thought I understood what this song was about, but it was not until today, this very moment, that I think I finally do. Anyone who has ever lost a loved one to substance abuse can feel the pain Candlebox channeled through this song. Shannon was a beautiful, generous, loving soul. Her pain and suffering are now far behind.

      When was the good ole days? I mean we, as in humans, keep repeating history over and over again. Wars and wars ober and over again. Seriously throughout history. Over the last 100 years they got a little slick awith their PR game. They tell us we are bombing, invading or over throwing one country's leader in the "name of freedom and democracy" and we gobble it up. We get the "illusion of choice" but its not because they are same. We'll keep listening to songs we love meanwhile children and families keep getting bombed, raped, invaded and killed in another part if the world. The US (we) has done this relentlessly since what world war 1 or 2. Before us it was the Brits, France, Spain, Germen, Portugal, Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Romans,.Vikings, Jews, Arabs, Egyptians, and like every country/territory in human history. All countries/territories have had a part in it in one way or another. Relentless killing of millions and millions of citizens for what? Yes citizens not leaders, royalty, rich and/or elite, just us poor folk. Just cause you're not homeless or starving doesn't mean you aren't poor. George Carlin said said best,."its a big club and you ain't in it". And he exaggerated a lot with the word "big". Maybe 3% of the global population in the club. Yet we allow them to send us to slaughter and get slaughtered so they can steal and horde more wealth? It makes absolutely zero sense yet we have allowed them to do it over and over the last few thousand years. We work our life's away so the 3% don't have to and they get rich. So again when were these good ole days for 95% of the global population? In conclusion make sure y'all vote next week for your illusiomake sure y'all vote next week for your illusion. Yeah I could have paragraphed it for easier reading. Then again we could have stopped hundreds of millions of needless deaths.

      My husband's dad dedicated this to him b4. Idk alot about his dads dad. I Just know the s.dad. his real mom &dad passed. He said I would've liked his mom tho. She supported them all at 1 point but they all were on drugs, stealing from her. I dont think they've learned anything. I dont really get the dad but he doesn't necessarily intrigue me enough... even his s.dad has moochy vibes. I just know that he says he wish he wouldve been around more for his son. But truth be told I still hear alot of back & forth between the mom & dad, till this day. Theyre not together. My partnas dad & s.dad are the musician type messes. I suppose that where he gets alot of his old school tastes from. I could go on & on about his background. But everytime I get heated, I know I say sh out of anger & truth prob hurts. But this song always reminded me of my background too tho... So some×s when my husband's gets to the point where he's kept up w/ my antics, & approaches me in a softer way, me only gradually going w/ the flow... still lost between mad & nice is like uh yeah. I do understand how they mistreat u. but u also act alot like them. But it does get on my last nerve, the antics they do. How the f would they treat their own sons, next on the line, the way they do. He is my person. So, some*s I think out of guilt, they over compensate & baby him as a grown man. His growth obviously is not going at some natural speed. & it rages me to the fullest how his male elders still think they're more kaniving than not, pretty much instilling & encouraging those behaviors. In short, I really just think they all need to get laid. By some poor women. Sometimes, I honestly do get weird vibes... he & some others even think they're jealous & it's fn weird. Theres more, but I'll leave that out. So yes, I find it absolutely hilarious at least when I see his s.gpa & gma (not together, moms side) still going at it. That elderly woman is Not having it! As far as the dad, he's like a fn lost cause. Always calling his son to rant about some drama he'll dive right in the middle of just to play victim & better than thee bs. U sir, ur detrimental to ur sons brains. & hearts. U r indeed the fn weakest link. & I h8 it for him/ them but there's only so much I can take.

    This song was played at my big brother's funeral. He passed at 9 after a car accident 2 years prior. It's always been a part of my life since my mother loved the band so much when I was small.
    I'm a lot older now and have watched my younger brother struggle with addiction for over 10 years. As an adult knowing someone you love is struggling like that, it takes on an entirely new meaning compared to what it meant when I was a kid.
    My best friend just bought us tickets to see you guys with 3 Doors Down and I'm most excited for Candlebox. I'm sure I'll lose it hearing this song live since it's always meant so much to me.

      Music for me instantly brings me back to various moments in my life. It's both awesome and sad at the same time. There's a Matthew Good Band song (90s Canadian alt rock) that brings me back to when my elementary school friend was killed by a drunk driver. It makes me sad, but at least I spend a moment remembering my friend who died so many years ago.
