The railroads can pay for it, one way or the other...or another. Just make the railroads know how long their trains are, and stop appropriatly! Goodness! It's that easy! And, if trains continually block the road...people will just keep trying to beat the train to get over the tracks. We don't need to spend any money on this! Make the railroad take responsibility, one way or the other. If they want to have a bridge over, or tunnel under....they can pay for it! If they want to make sure they're sticking to our laws, they can do that. If they don't do that, they can find a way around. That's my bold opinion!!

Does our state get money for letting them pass through? I'd like to know, and if so...where does that money go? Follow it.

I agree with what you're saying, but that will never happen. If the railroads were forced to pay, they would just pass the fees onto the prices they charge their consumers. And, if they could not do that, they would just refuse to carry freight (a kind of strike) forcing the other side to cave in. Not only that, they would contact their tame (i.e., bought) congressmen and ask them to oppose such measures.

You don’t seem to understand. The railroad does not have to let roads cross their tracks at any point. If you don’t like it they can rip out the crossing at any time. They were there first and own the property you are driving over.

Lessee, how much in taxes do railroads pay for services they don't get or for officials to take action against the railroad for being around. No mention of railroads paying for part of the grade separation or other improvements.
Could apply Ohio's public panic laws against rail workers the way they do to overdose patients.

dig deeper. were the tracks there first or the road? that will tell you who should pay. it's not rocket science. no. screw that. that's too easy. spend millions on a study.

Cheaper Solution: Tax incentives to make railroads shorten their trains.
