How to grow Walnuts - From Nut to Tree

- Paulo explains his experiences with growing Walnut trees.
He has grown them from seed and also purchased young trees and plated them in his woodland garden.
He already has a large established Walnut in his garden which was planted before he lived there. This has given him a unique perspective on their habits and potential nut crops.
Paulo also explains some other uses for Walnut trees in an ecological sense.
Best way I found to grow them was to forget about a bag of walnuts my other half left in the shed. The thieving squirrel did the rest. The only downside to this method (game) is having to dig them up out of the lawn, the middle of the lane, the neighbours garden and random plant pots to plant in more suitable positions (middle of nowhere). Ease of planting and growth: ten stars. Ease of rehoming: one star. (Really lovely trees though)

How do you start a tree ? from a waltnut or hard wood cutting
They actually spring up all around the garden and I pot them on. I think the local squirrel buries them in autumn so they seem to plant them for me...If you want a good cropper though I would buy in a tree
@@paulotheurbanfarmer5982 Didnt know there where that easy to get goingSeen then often planted in Eastern Europe thought they had to be specially grafted or something for a good crop of nuts.I wonder if wild chesnut will be the same ?
@@kkooloo5781 I they are, I have hade a couple of chestnuts pop up in the the woodland garden by themselves. I would certainly experiment. what I do if I am experimenting is put them in pots with established plants you know you will kept watered. this way you can forget about them and just see if they emerge
@@paulotheurbanfarmer5982 Yes your right Good idea just Experiment youve Not got much to lose but I think growth and size and quantity could be affected depending on how much sunlight is available here in UK compared to continent. Europe
