    Fawns are so unbelievably precious... I had the privilege of coming across a "parked" fawn in the woods and was able to snap a picture without disturbing it. They're somehow even cuter in real life!

    Cool video! I never knew these facts about fawns. What I took away is that if I ever see a fawn while in the woods in their defense position, I'll leave it alone if it's not in immediate danger. I would check back in four hours. If it's still there maybe offer it fluids and leave again. Moms is probably nearby.
    If I find a fawn in an outstretched position then I might intervene.

    • @lewstone5430

      You will know whether the mama is nearby when the fawn bleats. Mom will come running if she’s there so be careful not to startle a fawn if you’re ever monitoring one.

    GREAT PSA! I love you guys for having produced this, hope it gets more coverage.. EDUCATIONAL MOMENT that will "stick" & be acted upon more likely than empty directives, as lack of knowledge leads to making matters WORSE for wildlife.
    20 yrs with my wild whitetail matriarchal lineage, I have learned the same..legs splayed & following/chasing people, crying consistently usually a bad sign..usually dehydrating hungry last ditch effort because mom couldn't get back to them safely without drawing attention, or while she is drawing away predators. When healthy they typically scamper some then park down in stealth mode ..eyes open pile of goo like your little one in vid.. they get fed every 5-8 hours..(longer than most people will wait).
    If they are crying longer than 8 hours/people are around, then mom may orphan them due to constant calling drawing predators(people being included)
    TAKE A PICTURE AND LEAVE WITHOUT DRAWING ATTENTION, DO NOT TOUCH..MOM WORKS HARD TO MAKE SURE LITTLE ONES DON'T HAVE ANY SCENT TO GIVE THEM AWAY!
    They are good to go with mom when they are well fed&their legs "tightened up" under them! So amazing to watch their development, beautiful creatures.
    Last summer my close friend 4yr old momma Zoe left me w/her twins in my back yard, with my rabbit friend, for an afternoon. We were parked.. took me a bit to realize as I walked away Zoe was PARKING ME TOO. What momma says goes, so we stuck to a 50' radius. It was August & little ones were able to nibble in a safe place w/plenty of food. She came back 6hours later.. I learned more that day thanks to Momma entrusting me w/her fawns as she trusted me..forever grateful for her family's acceptance, & what I have learned. I don't feed the deer, & have become closer to them for that.. they have plenty to eat, devote their travels to their safety & next meal, no such thing as a spoiled meal! Having to eat is "dangerous, priority work" for them, followed by need of time to ruminate when safe.. then repeat!
    The family bond is strong & so precious. They enjoy tranquility & family closeness. To be welcomed for only having respected their needs, being considered part of the family..priceless. To work together closely, walk with them, teach them "suburban&traffic streetsmarts" then see does teach little ones down line the same.. beyond priceless. To share apples and berries as I'm picking & they're foraging, to not accept food handouts directly from people, to walk away, see fawns run away from handouts...proud moment, love my deer even more, as they will not become nuisances or beg, or expect from people. They have their human friends who they visit to bed, ruminate, rest in peace & safety.
    As it should be for everyone's safety.
    Respect & acknowledge wildlife, it's needs, make its life easier to do its job, it will welcome your presence.. 🥰❤🦌

    Very good vid, thank you for the info. Our Fish and Wildlife Dept. in Vermont is one of the worst in the nation, and they don’t allow the volunteer rehabilitators to accept fawns. Instead, the wardens shoot them if they are orphaned. The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Dept literally doesn’t have any concern whatsoever for the well-being of wildlife, and only cares about maintaining hunting, fishing and trapping of the animals.

      @madelyntielking6483 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Eh, more like they had to time to develop in the womb. Humans are unable to walk for about the first year because we are born "prematurely". Basically, our big brains make it so we have to be born before we are fully developed (as in walk a few hours after birth). The pelvis to head ratio is just so similar that if a baby were to be born at the walking stage, then the head would be too large to fit through the pelvis. A lot of carnivorous animals are also born "prematurely".

    I was white water rafting in the 8th grade and I saw a fawn parked in a seated position, sitting like a dog. Just a few inches off a manmade path where the rafters get out of their rafts to send them empty over Husum Falls, this one spot that's too dangerous for beginners, before they get back in and continue down the river.
    I stood next to the fawn as the other rafters walked the path, in case anybody needed me to remind them not to handle the fawn. But nobody even saw the thing, unless I pointed it out to them. It wasn't concealed by any vegetation whatsoever. It was just very, very still, looking like someone's lawn ornament.
    Come to think of it, maybe that's what it was. You put a baby deer sculpture in the woods, and laymen like me don't know anything other than to not touch fawns, so it goes undisturbed for God knows how long. Hmm... 🤔
