This was a transformational year for Eurovision. 4 out of the Top 5 counties with non English songs and all of the top 5 counties having artists that wrote their songs as well. Also, I really think you'd like Ukraine more if you heard the whole build up to that clip part.

  • @AddisonandAlex85

Ukraine song has some sorcery in it but you have to listen to the whole thing its hypnotizing, and pleeease of course full esc performance of Maneskin that is a must, they were perfection like nothing before. Its Ukraine and Italy this year for me.

I don't get how so many people liked Ukraine.. I mean I'm from Romania and live in Italy since 10 yo and I obviously respect other people's culture and like diversity. I get that that song is traditional in Ukraine but Damm... Listening to that high pitched/weird metallic/nails on a blackboard voice for the whole length of the song hurts my ears...

Also, Måneskin said that if not their win, they wanted Ukraine to win. You just need to understand how unique it is. It is not typical Ukrainian music, we don't really have other bands with the same sound. Go_A mixes traditional Ukrainian folk music with some techno sound, it's considered pretty unique here but we love it

Hello, first time viewer here (drawn in by your Eurovision reactions). While my taste is not quite as diverse as you, I just wanted to say that your positivity and open mindedness is just so refreshing! Even the ones you weren't a fan of you were so respectful towards. It warms my heart. Keep it up :)

I love that if he doesn't like something he doesn't say that its trash he just says it's not his taste and that he respects it and that is amazing to me cause I saw this other guy who reacted to Eurovision and every cultural song he listens to he sead it was bad and gave it a bad score unlike like all the pop songs which he gave high scores becouse that was the music he liked to listen to.

if youre open to checking out eurovision performances from other years, i would LOVE to hear your thoughts on albania's 2018 entry! the song is called 'mall' by eugent bushpepa, its a rock ballad with some of the most solid vocals in recent years imo!

Maybe you'll like the "original" version of Shum better? In the end it's a folk song in a new dress ^^. I liked Go_A a lot thus I bought their album which has even more great songs. And I'm really glad I found somebody whose taste is just as all over the place like mine :D.

Yeah I think the strong point of Eurovision is the diversity, that the artist truly try new things and we see very different genres and performances. (And when they sing in their own language that makes it even better!)

Some of the songs have really deep meanings, or just weirdly quirky ones:
Lithuania's is about being alone and overtaken by the desire to dance because no-one is watching (hence the weird dance moves)
Italy's is about how no-one listens to young folks
Russia's is a really controversial song about the strength of women
Iceland's is a love song to his wife about how after ten years together he still is in awe of her
Malta's is about owning your body and not having others dictate your worth
Finland's is about how it's ok to be different
France's is about standing up for yourself as a woman (France has had a reckoning recently about gender based violence, so it's very relevant)
    Ukraine's is about Slavic folklore

Love that you have such a diverse music taste. Nice to meet others that are not pigeon holed. Think it makes us more tolerant of others and able to connect with others. :-) France had a lot of power. Very traditional for France to do that sort of song. It was the best Eurovision I have seen in a long long time. But if you see the top 10...Måneskin in the end...no contest!!!

My favorites were Switzerland, France, Malta, Italy and Ukraine. Songs outside of the top 10 I liked were Portugal, Serbia and Belgium.
Greece was okay. They could've tried to connect the staging with the song. It didn't make any sense like this.
Russia was very cool. I'm happy they made it into the top 10!
Lithuania wasn't my cup of tea. I don't dislike it, but I don't go as nuts over it as others do. It's groovy and unique and very eurovision.
I love Maltas vocals. Destiny is so young, but she has the voice of a fullblown diva. Girl got some serious pipes. Unfortunately her staging was kind of "meh" as well that worked even less in her starting position and might have cost her televotes. She needs to become an international star. She has the voice for it.
I support every rock entry in Eurovision. Finland rocked the arena.
Ukraine was soooo good! It's the folklore rave I never knew I needed. It needed some time to grow on me, but I love the live version.
Iceland was king of like Lithuania for me. It's okay, it's nerdy and weird. It's very meme-able. It was never in my circle of favorites, though.
Switzerland was my favorite. The best vocal performance of the grand finale. He's insanely good. They tried to do something artsy for the staging and I'm not sure if it worked, but points for trying something different.
France was amazing live. The studio record is good, but she nailed it live. The entire package was perfect.
Yeah, Italy was out of this world. If Finland rocked the arena, Italy burned it to the ground. They turned Eurovision into a good old fashioned rock concert and that was exactly what we needed. They definately were part of my favorites, but even if it's popular with the audience I never wanted to get my hopes too high, because it's not a song that's successfull with the juries. It's so fricking cool Italy won after years of sending amazing entries and with rock on top of that.

I'm so glad you liked Manizha (Russia), she was my #1 and the song becomes even better when you figure out the backstory of the song being a feminist anthem, which you definitely don't see from Russia (Manizha is an outspoken activist, and faced backlash from her own country because of it). Not only that but she was born multicultural in Tajikistan with her mother from Russia, and for that + xenophobia as well, conservative Russians are calling her not a "real" Russian woman, but she still made it to top 10 regardless. She's also just very nice and fun in person. I'd love to see more reactions to her, my favorite songs from her are: Russian Woman (the one she sings in eurovision), НЕДОСЛАВЯНКА (Nedo Slavankya), MAMA, Изумруд (Izmrud/Emerald) and VANYA

Portugal brought a beautiful piece, but in English as a language. I love Eurovision because I want to hear different languages, different music and traditional sounds that blend with modern themes. I listen to everything from metal and rap to classical music and singer-songwriters. I have different needs depending on the day, because music is not a CD locked in a cage. I really wanted to hear a song in Portuguese, which is a language that works very well, but all languages work when you sing. Instead there is a tendency to use too much English (at eurovion in recent years) to write lyrics, although I can understand from a commercial point of view.
