Two years later we got to the final again, but the team was still haunted by this and never looked like winning, nor in 2007. 2018 wiped away all the hurt. Golden times now for Limerick, enjoy it while it lasts.
It’s only when u look back at this game that you realise how limerick threw away this game in the first 15 mins as much as they did in the last 5. First all Ireland I ever attended & I never forget the pure mayhem in the crowd when Pat O Connor scored Offalys 3rd goal. Freakiest ending to a game as ever you will see
I think what a lot of people overlook is that Offaly destroyed both Wexford and Kilkenny with two or even three goal blasts and earlier in games in that championship. It is also overlooked that Limerick conceded two goals late in both the games against Cork and Clare and this trend never seem to have been recognised and tackled
@@peadarocoileain902 That’s true, but to do what they did in the last 5 minutes of an All Ireland final , scoring 2-5 to no reply in the space of 5 or 6 minutes with the game virtually gone from them, insane stuff. Was at the Leinster final that year as a Wexford supporter & I never forget John Troy’s flick to Billy Dooley for Ofdalys goal, it was that Offaly team at their brilliant best. Should have followed up in 95 with another All Ireland too, they probably peaked that year against Kilkenny in the Leinster final.
Offaly would win again in 98 but then the decline started and they havent been close for decades now. Limerick, in the other hand, couldn't shake this one off until 2018, and now they've won 5 in 6 years, complete turnaround.
If Limerick had hit their full-forward line with every ball in that first half they could have been out of sight at half-time. Frankie Carroll was winning ball after ball, but then hitting the majority of them wide. Every time he popped the ball in towards Quigley something happened. Both sides were very nervous. As subdued an atmosphere as I've heard for an All-Ireland final.
Tinned Tuna sitting in the crowd it was anything but subdued I can assure you, as for the last 5 minutes, that was just something from another planet altogether. To be honest the last 5 minutes against Offaly seemd to spook Limerick for the entire 2nd half against Wexford in 96. 2 absolutely gut wrenching results for the county
Joseph Mann took them a long time to get it in fairness. 96 must have been even more galling for them, never came out of the dressing room for the 2nd half and still only lost by 2 points to a Wexford team with 14 men!! That was the one that really set them back for a long number of years. Should have reaped a richer harvest from the 3 in a row u21 team also
Joseph Mann ah yea I know the point your making, so hard to believe that they contested every Leinster final in the 80s, were possibly the most skillful team of the 90s and were still causing a lot of problems up to the early/mid 2000s. Hard to invisage them now in the third teir
Offaly had world class talent, 3 minors in 4 years , the horses were there. that team should have won 3 in a row, discipline cost them. Best team of the 90’s. The team today just don’t even have the basic skills down. Sad, Leinster need them back!
It took me until August 19th 2018 to get over this
Unreal. Grew up with the dark cloud of this looming over the hurlers. 2018 was special
@@jackasaurasrex It sure was
Im still haunted by it, even last week against cork I couldn't relax until the final whistle

An incredible end to the match. Gutted for limerick, it took a very long time to get over this.
Just stumbled across this - what a find and what a game .I love that hurling is ours.

First All-Ireland final I ever watched. My family emigrated a few months later.
Hurling's equivalent of the 1999 Champions League Final.
I was out hurling when this uploaded
Official GAA - Please post the classic 1996 Munster Semi-final between Limerick & Clare :)

That was one that took a long time to get over for Limerick people
Could ye upload 1994 and 1998 minor hurling finals as I know people involved in them.?would be great
Upload the 2007 Munster Club hurling final

the 5 min final
Looking at it now, seems like Limerick got the last laugh.

But I mean look at Offaly now

‘Its a sad state of affairs alright

Jesus what has happened to Offaly
Lord dooley has some opinion of himself .
Jonnythat is .
Unbelievable brutal compared to today's better refereed games
Offaly would have been down to 14 men in a flash,
Limerick hurlers are more like Greyhounds ,apart from Keiran Carey ,most players are more physically built,
Why are limerick magic ???
Because they disappeared in the last 5 mins
Not in 2021 though.
They reappeared in 2018...any sign of offaly?
Doing ok now
Welp
Up the Irish and hurlinr
Hurling
Turd
Best ending ever
can barely tell them apart, crazy decision to have Offaly have prominent green on their tops, no wonder Limerick got confused.
