    I think that the main issue behind the consecutive switching of creative directors is because Kering is currently going through a rough patch. Lots of their brands have been underperforming to the point that shareholders are now jumping ship or working towards a merger with Richemont.
    The only brands that have been doing consistently well are Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta. Gucci's sales have been falling since 2019, Balenciaga is still dealing with the aftereffects of the scandal and Alexander McQueen is currently going through brand restructuring.

      Shareholders are the problem. Fashion is not Tech where huge gains can be had. I believe LMVH has a better understanding of this

    I didn’t even know people were hating on bottega, I thought it was the best of the three Italian houses and one of my favorites of the season

      it is the most detailed and worked on one, but it was still hard for Blazy to prove himself, well that’s my opinion 🫠

    I loved your comments about people quick to judge a collection, having little knowledge of the brand. It seems everyone is an authority now. Thanks for this in depth look at fashion at this moment. Like most I wasn't wowed by the Milan shows, but then I never expect to be. Italian fashion has always mostly been understated elegance. Unfortunately, I agree that the New York fashion scene is on life support. It's founders, the legends, mostly gone.
    I look forward to hearnig more from you.

    I think the main reason for the change is the revenue source. For the last decade fashion has raised hope about a new generation of buyers, mostly from the middle class with increasing discretionary income, so the strategy was enticing this audience by selling the brand names (aka anything loud and indicative). The era has come to an end I guess. Inflation hits the poorer harder, so the extra money is no longer there for strivers to spend on luxury. Fashion now has to come back to the old school clientele aka the super rich, who are also smart enough to hold their values on quality, delicacy, elegance, etc. rather than the brand (they really give zero f about who makes the clothes, if the pieces are good they will buy even if they cost a million dollar). My prediction is that we're gonna hear less and less from brands because the focus is no longer the public, but just a limited group. This doesn't mean we're hated, it's just expensive for companies to maintain the same level of promotions that target people who don't buy any more. So yeah, either be rich or be the press to have access again.

    Thankyou Tuba for this EXCELLENT CONVERSATION!! I loved you point about being humble a quality that has become lost in this clamouring ego obsessed world we are now forced to try to survive in! 🤯Just a warning that what follows is a bit of a rant! Firstly obsession over “trends” is highly destructive at the personal psychological level and at the global environmental level and EVERY LEVEL IN BETWEEN!! When you talk about “dreaming” by necessity you are in a state of slow contemplative thinking… you are stepping out of the ridiculous high speed treadmill of personally trying desperately to keep up inadvertently contributing massively to the global issue of over production!!! This is what FASHION has come to mean… and this brilliant analysis you have presented in this video Tuba, highlights this crucial issue! So WELL DONE! 🤩I can’t believe I missed it when you first posted😖Personally I think that things like leather looking like denim whilst very artistic is quite unconscious, unimportant & is just a silly gimmicky distraction… quite show offy and does not contribute at all to what we all need to be thinking about which is how to produce for the betterment of not just humanity but showing real respect for the impact on all ecosystems of this industry upon which sooo much importance has come to be placed! Fashion is what clothes us and protects our vulnerable bodies from the physical world as Tuba so concisely pointed out in her coat video, but it has become completely unconscious & quite evil in its effect as it is presently in the top 3 GLOBAL POLLUTANTS!!! Quite SHAMEFUL in my very humble opinion!!🤯& I quite obsessively adore FASHION… I have been collecting the most beautiful fashion items I could since the late 70’s when I first discovered vogue in our local newsagent in the 70’s in Hobart Tasmania where I grew up!! It was full of fashion now it’s quite an uninspiring magazine of advertising! Now the absolute necessity is to CONSCIOUSLY reassess and balance want and need and consume less and make sure that what we do consume when it’s FASHION is meritorious & is actually consciously produced in the best way possible, is beautiful, functional, well constructed, built to last & deserving to last! This way it will surpass these destructive momentary trends, make the ultra fast treadmill of fashion & the crazy show calendar irrelevant as it now operates. We have to dream, to aspire and to respect the labour and creativity that creating items to clothe us deserves!! If we have to put up with this ultra fast, brain straining TIKTOK platform… at least only consume what is useful… like mending and sewing tips to keep your beloved clothes functional & standing the test of time.
    Lastly these brands are so influential & super wea😮lthy, need to put their capitalists heads together and figure out a new way of operating… they are the ones that should be setting the example and using their enormous resources 💰💰💰💰to innovate in EVERY WAY in cooperation, fabrication, using up dead stock & crucially in NON POLLUTING manufacturing techniques that help the environment and the individual consumers… it’s a big ask but it has to be done! It’s very clear that the current model has spiralled out of control & is universally destructive…

    Agreed on the trend of craftsmanship. Saw it in most NY fashion shows. Though is not innovative, it's a dream for seamstresses/patternmakers/crafters overall. It's also easy to produce the majority of collections I saw in NYC.

    The focus on clothes : I personally think it also a way to really create separation with other new and younger brands that don’t really focus on clothes but more on visual branding + the after pandemic focus on minimalism. Let’s not forget that this brands are luxury brands are luxury brands when you cant decipher luxury from the rest then you start loosing cause there’s a dissonance… my pov. I think that the focus on technicality (cut and sew + textile and fabrics) is great way to reset that dynamic … they will build on that eventually

    I just wanna add some points;
    1- 205w39 was shut down due to its unprofitability and how much it run down the CK business
    2- Blazy was working under Lees in bottega before he was promoted once Lee was fired

    And why is this ? Because economists and business men make the executive decisions nowadays. Artistry in terms of creativity and innovation is lost. The way fashion is heading now is not looking positive, we need to put artists at heads of houses and scale down.

    • @ladyjunon6305
      @ladyjunon6305 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also a matter of business acumen. Most fashion designers (and by extension, artists) either lack the skills to handle the business side of fashion or lack the desire to learn anyway.
      Because managing a high-end fashion label (anything bigger than an Instagram/TikTok brand) is an expensive venture, money needs to come from somewhere.
      That's why so many designers either go out of business, move to larger fashion houses or start searching for investors.

    • @Orbitinbloom19018
      @Orbitinbloom19018 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ladyjunon6305 and what exactly is the reason for the huge conglomerates we have nowadays. I think we need to talk about the fact that innovation doesn’t necessarily have to happen on a grand scale. I’m all for scaling down and coming back to more local, smaller designers.
