    I didn't grow up listening to Al Hirt, but I know who he is. Sometimes, getting some age on you can make you appreciate things you disregarded in your youth. I'm just now "discovering" the wonder, fun and pleasure of Al's music. I can't imagine ever seeing another time when we get music brilliance like this. There used to be such a wide array of music styles to enjoy, and the musicians, arrangers, recording engineers were tops in their field or incredibly creative. Music has self-destructed as the years have marched on.

    I can't thank my late, hard working parents enough for buying all of Big Al's Nashville albums when they came out. The albums weren't cheap for a blue collar family, but they did it for my brother and me. I grew up listening to these albums and know them all by heart. I used to play them in my mind note for note in correct song order in my 7th grade English class instead of listening to the teacher drone on about diagramming sentences. I thank my beloved folks forever for delivering me from the horrors of sentence diagramming by giving me the gift of Al Hirt's music all those years ago. Thanks, Mom and Dad! Love you!

    This horn playing nearly brings tears to my eyes. It's so sad that we live in a world where this kind of talent isn't respected anymore...I wish I lived between 1920-now so that i could see the greats in action, so few of them left in the music industry.

    A nice and catchy tune with a great rhythm and very skillfullly played. One of my favorites through the years this one is very well named as its rhythm actually suggests walking. And the skill big Al Hirt had to play the trumpet makes this one a great tune to hear and enjoy.

  • @jmrodas9
    @jmrodas9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This excellent tune brings to me so many remembrances of that year 1964 and of more recent years too as I have liked to walk long distances since I was a teenager. My late Dad taught me how to walk properly long distances and I still walk despite the fact I am seventy two now and can still walk six miles easily and can do it fast. One of my favorites this tune has a nice and catchy rhythm and is very nice to hear and enjoy.

    What I like of this splendid tune is the fact it sounds so natural without anything forced. The rhythm is cool and the trumpet and the other instruments and chorus are very well coupled to it is an excellent tune to hear, and one I have liked through tye years.

  • @jmrodas9

    Whenever I hear this excellent tune I feel eighteen once again! And what is more the catchy rythm I liked so much is not outdated by any means. One of those tunes I shall like as long as I live.

    "caminando" preciosa melodía que me trae tantos recuerdos. Es una excelente melodía y sugiere alguien andando. Como soy un caminante me gusta mucho y ahora hasta la puedo escuchar en mi portátil mientras camino unas dos millas cosa que hago todos los días. Es relajante oír esta pieza musical y muy bonita para escucharla y disfrutarla.

    This song was released in 1964 on the "Cotton Candy" album and was written by the great artist Jerry Reed! I *think* Jerry is playing that distinctive "chunky" guitar backing. It's either him or Chet Atkins I'd bet. The whole song is a major favorite of mine too, and is arranged and backed by the Anita Kerr Singers nearly perfectly. That "Living Stereo" LP album was played on our console stereo frequently by me and my late Mom and it even brought joy to her in her last most recent years too when I bought her the CD collection of his original Sixties albums! Al can do that to you!

    • @FawleyJude
      @FawleyJude 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to the liner notes on the album, the guitarist was a Nashville session musician named Grady Martin. He also played on the "Honey in the Horn" album. Chet Atkins produced the "Cotton Candy" album. I didn't know Jerry Reed wrote the song, but there his name is on the credits on the label of the record.

    This one is so good I hear it twice or thrice each time as the catchy rhythm is so good to hear it does not bore me at all and I want to hear more seems to me the record is very short. Very good to hear 54 years later as it is still up to date.

  • @jmrodas9
    @jmrodas9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful. The nice natural way this excellent tune is played, makes it something worthwhile to hear. And the chorus is great too, making it one of those tunes I want to hear every time I can.

    Hard to find piece; I have it on vinyl (Best of, Vol. II), but can't find it elsewhere. Do you know which original album it came from? The "octave up" second time through has some of the finest lip trills ever recorded -- except for the last one. That it was a bit of a flub but made the cut anyway shows that there wasn't a lot of "studio magic" when they recorded Al Hirt. I saw him live several times (backstage twice), and he was an enormously friendly, funny, and humble guy.
    R.I.P., Al.
