We use a product in the UK call superdec. It's so flexible it holds the peels back. It lasts a long time and is a great problem solver in situations like this. No sure if you have it in the US.
they have something called peel stop probably same thing. but in 10 years the primer in the other areas that are old start letting go then it peels again in different areas. After 35 years of painting I realize there is no way to stop it once it starts unless you strip the wood down and start over with new primer or put up new ship lap.
I scraped, patched and primed 360 around my one story stucco house on a ladder for weeks, south facing is worst then i silicone sealed. Airless painting tomorrow. Ye ha. Hard wirk pays...
Actually you're a bit wrong on this. For 10-20% peeling area like we see here painting with 3-4 coats (at least 0.3mm or so new paint) does a good job of keeping the stuff together for 5-10 years. On walls or any vertical surfaces that fix good for even 30-40% peeling areas. The new areas where old paint would detach will not become peelings because they're being held up by new paint like a crust. This only works as long as the new paint (crust) has something to hold onto, so if too much the old paint detaches the new "fake ceiling" will come off (in large chunks).
I have done what you are saying. and most of the time it does not help. you still only get 5 to10 years and it always peels again. almost every way you approach it. 5 to 10 years with 100% acrylic good self priming or an extra year or so for using bonding primer. The fake ceiling fails too with enamel or flat. It will fail fast if you dont use 100% acrylic though.
Obviously paint is gonna come off eventually. That's just part of life. The wood will rot eventually, too. How long would you give soffit and eaves painted with basic cheap Zinser primer and then with the Behr opaque "stain." I have at least 50, if not 80% peeling paint on the shed I'm painting, and those are the products I chose. Do I need to go all the way back to wood, or just peel the junk off and plan on another fun summer day with the Ole paint roller in 5 years? Will I get more years out of stripping it down with the heat gun?
strip it all off and use a linseed oil paint so it doesn't peel off in future it either hasn't been done proper or just shit paint like most modern paint. priced some windows the other day done a year or so ago and the paint was literally blowing off in wind done by a large paint company. customer said to me you can just give that a light brush be done in 5 min 40 windows. get that shit all the time.
No such thing as self priming paint or 2 in 1. It was created by the paint companies because consumer demand was so high. Truth is paint and primer have unique chemical structures and should be applied separately.
very true but it is a good fix for peeling eves because unfortunately it will ALWAYS happen again. I have been doing this 35 years and there is NO permanent fix for peeling eves.
Hi, what is that vent called during 0:13 and 0:17 I cannot find anything online to replace those vent covers. I'd appreciate anyone's input 🙏🏼 thanks in advance!
yea for sure some guys box them in and put new wood up. Some people think if they scrape it down really good it will stop but the areas that were still holding will let go next. then the same thing happens over and over as the new areas continue to let go.
Peeling eaves is part of life. Just scrape off old, wire brush it, sand it, prime it, paint it! Blessings in 🙏🏼

how ever given most people in the US live in their house 7 years 10 year paint job sounds good.@@mikethepainter
If peel stop lasts 10 years that’s a win
".....so....just deal with it..." This is SO helpful... Insightful. Thanks.

Yup scrape it down....Hit it with self priming material or primer. Then paint it and be done.....Probably will peel again FYI.....
@@mikethepainter yea, South facing is the worst. 120 degrees in summer,...
@@westvalley411 hot under there....do it early...then work the shade side...

Eves vent covers.
Yep did mine on garage eves with heat gun and scrapper….
Could I pressure wash it?
why not slap some new wood on them eves, paint them like new? i installed new soffit pertained, bamn like new.

So, there’s nothing you can do. Good to know.
Saves a lot of time from swimming up stream
Ahh you ever tried preasure washing the old paint off to bare wood ?
It doesn't always all come off
Where do you buy good tape cheap price
Vista paint in southern Ca has the best prices on tape
So you're screwed.
You should just say primer and paint and spare us all the other bullshit.
