YES on walnut! Martin does it extremely nicely.. I started with an Eastman E22 (Adirondack-walnut), and that sold me on Walnut. There are a few different types, but that D42 sounds and looks great. Thanks, Chad, Paul, and Quinton
Thank you for letting us know the wonders of Wallnut... I have a Taylor 12 string made with layered wallnut back and sides and it's awesome. Happy Thanksgiving!
I am a Martin guy, and I think this sounds excellent. I had a Gibson J15 for a while and loved the walnut sound. Sorry I sold it. Thank you for the videos
I have been trying to arouse interest in Walnut as a tonewood for forty years now--here in South-central Appalachia we have millions of great Black Walnut trees. They are a pioneer species in poor soil and grow huge in bottom land.
I own a Gibson J-45 Studio Walnut, I like the tone it sounds somewhere between Mahogany and Rosewood. I will say it is much more sensitive to low humidity, If it gets too dry the tone falls off immediately.
That D-41 just sparkles. I have a 2006 Taylor 414-LTD where they did a limited run in aged Spruce and Claro Walnut. TBH, the back wasn't the stunner the D-41 has there, but its still a very nicely figured piece that has some red color in it too, especially the sides. I agree, tonally it's very balanced. I have a rosewood backed hi-end (F-25 Lowden) guitar with a Cedar top and the 414 compares surprisingly very favorably versus the Lowden. So I concur, Walnut is a completely legitimate option for a tone wood if you're looking for something on the custom side. Play on and be well.
I would love to hear the difference between the Older out of current construction Gibson J-15 and The last new Martin walnut D-28 and this Martin D-41 😎
Woah, that's low. I feel it in my chest, right from the intro. That Walnut depth of color on the back, looks like Maple's half-brother. Imagine this guitar after 10 - 15 years of playing, i mean, it resonates forever already.. it'll just get sweeter. This should sound tugboat low in D.
walnut is my favorite aesthetically, sonically I am still looking for one that I like but I've only played like 2 and I'm very picky. been watching a lot of lot sawing videos on youtube and it's really interesting the parts of the tree that creates the figure in the woods. I still would want a plain straight grained over a figured guitar but that is really freaking cool.
No. Prefer my rosewood D-41! Gibson have been pushing walnut too, but I've yet to play a walnut guitar that I wanted to take home. OK, I will admit that I used to feel the same way about maple guitars, but now I have two J-185s and 2 K Yairis that I love, so perhaps it's just a matter of time!
Walnut is probably the prettiest wood out there. And it's not a tropical hardwood of dubious origin. Unfortunately, none of that makes it a good guitar toonewood. None of the walnut-back guitars I've tried convinced me. They all sounded too bell like, too bright, which produces a lot of noise when playing. The strings just didn't blend together when strummed.
Beside the bling (I dig the distinction up to style 28 way more) this deserves a comparison to a Mahogany and a Rosewood Dreadnought.

Quintin is a real cool player I like the nonchalant way he plays and attacks the guitar.🤩👍

Assuming a spruce top, walnut is okay for back and sides, but rosewood or koa is better.
I've got a walnut Gibson J-45 Studio and everyone always comments on how awesome it sounds!

WOW, what a sound!
Sounds amazing! I like the tone and depth. I’ve played a few walnut guitars and have decided my dream guitar is a walnut 000 with VTS top.
Nice balanced sound. Love the sound of walnut.
Sounds amazing ❤
Had a Gibson j45 walnut but the neck/truss rod failed and I took home a L00 standard instead.

It is really a clear Martin sound ! Great guitar !

yeah it's gorgeous and sounds neat, but there's a lot of interesting options at that lofty price point in the world o' dreadnoughts.
Wonderful character in the tone of walnut.. sort of dark and earthy.
Another great sounding guitar!
Wow, very clear tone with nice sustain. Abit like maple but deeper.

lovely. walnut is a great tonewood- this one just needs a little play time- gunna be a beast:)
Excellent tone.
Man, that’s nuts.
I love Walnut ❤
Awesome!
Sounds great that
First time I hear the walnut sound like that, a hug
A hug indeed
Lovely top, The walnut looks really sweet. Sounds dead, like a laminated back.
I am pleasantly surprised to hear the clarity of this instrument as well as the bass response. Perhaps Walnut will become a more widely used tonewood.
walnut is the best

What mahogany or Rosewood? Walnut has some overtones, but mot like East Indian Rosewood. More overtones than mahogany
I like the guitar and it’s sound but you can make music out of the bling, I would like it plain. The wood and sound speakers for its self
Couldn't get rid of my Alvarez AD60 walnut fast enough. Couldn't stand listening to it.

Walnut is not for noisy strumming, but delicate fingerpicking...even woods have preferences.
8K--no
Try an Eastman E22. Depending on body shape, a third the price. Slightly different growl than Martin.
I would not waste my money on junk woods like walnut, ash, and Canadian cherry. If it is a D28, I will stick with rosewood.
