To everyone that is coming for him about the lyrics, it was his interpretation upon first impression. Yes it is about heartbreak because that's what the album's concept is, but his reaction to it being a sexy song is not entirely wrong. Of course there's the sad underlying tone in the lyrics and the music, but the combination of V's vocals and the mood can very well be mistaken for what he thought it was. If it had to be compared to any other artist's music, I'd have to say The Weeknd.

LOL. Bris thought it was a sexy love song before he saw the lyrics. So his mind couldn't come out from that even after he reads the lyrics. His reactions is priceless.
He did the same thing with Agust D's The Last, that's what upset everybody last time. I tried to explain to people that it's just that he came into the song expecting to hear some hard-hitting cypher type stuff, and that's how he reacted to it, not stopping to realize it was a deeply personal expression of Yoongi's feelings and experiences. You can tell that's what happened, but people thought he was trivializing Yoongi.
I feel like if he doesn't take the time to start really thinking about it, people are going to feel like he's really not paying attention to BTS lyrics at all. Even when they're right there he remains with his initial impression. That's not necessarily a big issue the first few times, but the problem is, BTS lyrics are never that shallow, and if he'd been following the logic of what they sing about, he'd have known by now that could not possibly have been anything close to what Tae meant by "lake."
That's not to say they can't sing about more adult topics; they're all grown men now. But they're not vulgar, and their music has always been introspective and thoughtful, not 'booty call hour'. Misinterpreted lyrics happen to everyone but being THAT far from the mark on a group you stan is strange.

The lake is actually referring to the Greek myth of Narcissus who loved himself so much that he drowned. If you actually watch the video back there are a lot of symbolic images that go back to specific pieces of art (For example when he's looking in his reflection surrounded by flower, it's mimicking John Everett Millais' Ophelia and again with What I Saw in the Water by Frida Kahlo). There are a lot of allusions to both Narcissus and Hamlet, especially through the Ophelia imagery looking into the pool of water. The "dumping myself into the lake" part is a throwback to him jumping off the board in the Butterfly video, which symbolised him jumping away from childhood into the unknown. So this is a continuation of the story from the previous videos and follows their fictional universe. Here's a great video that ties the whole timeline together . There's a ton more subreddits though that go into a lot of detail too!

The lake represents the lake in Narcissius' myth. He died from loving himself too much. Which fits the theme of the albums.
The lake can represent anything the listener chooses. That is the beauty of art. There really is no one meaning. If there was it would lose its poignancy.

Personally, I found the lyrics to be rather heartbreaking and self deprecating, despite the sensual elements in Tae’s voice and the music. I think with this album being called love yourself tear, the overall theme is going to be about mental health
