Yeah he is stunning. His colours are much more distinct than our other Blue Texel.
He won't produce many lambs this year as we're using him to finish any ewes which break at the end of tupping time. But next year he'll have his chance with many more. So it'll be 2022 when we really see what he's capable of.
When it's lambing next year (2021) I plan to try and get some good footage of some of his lambs and our other Blue Texel lambs. So far the Blue Texels tend to produce more white lambs than black ones when mixed with our Mules, Suffolks, Texel ewes.

That is one hunk of a ram. As an Australian merino (wool sheep) breeder I don’t understand your term of ‘tups’. Are they different to rams?

Hi BG. Tups = rams. The word tup is a slang term used in UK which means breeding rams. Likewise, you may hear UK breeders refer to the breeding season as 'tupping' time. Hope that makes things a tad clearer.

How much does your ram lamb weigh? He certainly is a gorgeous guy.

Thanks for the compliment. We've not weighed him yet as we've had no real need too, but I would say he's only slightly smaller than most our ewes. Our ewes tend to weigh around 70kg, so I'd say this fella is probably between 55-65kg.
He'll be fully grown around 3 yrs. They tend to grow taller the 2nd year and go a bit round. And then really fill out in the 3rd year and start to look bulky.
You can tell just looking at his frame he's going to be a big guy. I think he'll be bigger than our older blue Texel. I'll try to get some footage of him at some point so you can compare the two.

His name (which I couldn't remember when i filming) is Barnsey Erny. That's what came on the pedigree papers

Prepare for small lamb that take ages to finish.

Really? This is our 2nd Blue Texel ram. We've had the other over 3 years now and have had no problems with the breed.
We've found that the lambs finish at roughly the same rate as white Texels.
For fast finishing lambs, we usually rely on Suffolk X Mule.

If you breed small muscular lambs to tall lengthy sheep you tend to get a good solid mix of both.
