At least the original screw has a new life now, better than being buried on a building site forever. Cheers Shaun

Fantastic, I think there is a process of hardening and softening metal or possibly keeping a hard bit of steel and not softening it whilst working it. There must be a way of hardening that tip someway. Somehow I love the end shape of the screwdriver

Thanks Reggy, I thought the whole hardening thing might be a little beyond my skill set mate.
Saw your big handled screwdriver by the way, that was quite a weapon.

If you were to quench harden and then temper the business end of it, you could use it. That would be pretty cool, actually. A screwdriver that used to be a screw.

That’s something I’ve never tried before, it might be time to give it a go. Thanks

Hello Mate...... Im no metallurgist but I have previously heated red hot with a blow lamp and then dropped in an oil bath......this not only blues the metal but it does harden it somewhat. ....good go buddy!

I’ve never done it before, but I feel I need to give it a go on this screwdriver I’ve made, especially after all the comments suggesting it. I’ll slip it in to a future video at some point. Thanks for watching mate, your comments are truly appreciated.

Nice, you might want to look into hardening and temper your screw driver.
It's probably a low carbon steel, so you would need to case-harden it with a source of carbon such as powdered charcoal, sodium carbonate etc. There are some good how-to's on YT.

Reminds me of prison, prisoner will.make screwdrivers out of anything they can get hold of so they can take things apart to hide contraband inside.
