It does look cool doesn't it! Still trying to decide wether I like the looks of the clipped wing better than the old swept ones, but I just love the metal spinner...
Stefan Näwe thanks! Me too. Just found out that if you make a high speed pass and make fast rolls just in front of you that makes a cool sound as well, as if your wings are spanking the air around :)
I'm from Northern California not the interweb sheesh!! Lol. I love that plane and the sound it makes freaking awesome! 🔥🤘 The pilots not bad either 😉 Cheers Rob
I got one of those too. Great plane adn lots of fun at full throttle!! Only issues i have ist when take off the plane always does an immidiate roll to the left - I always have great problems catching it back to flightline!!! Any tips for that??
pemele absolutely, take off at 60% throttle, it's the torque of the motor that makes it roll at full throttle and very low speed. So 60% throttle and increase to full when the plane looks like it's flying (about a second after launch). Good luck!
As soon as this is back in stock in the US, it will be on it's way! Very cool plane! I love that it seems to be a blast to fly LOS and FPV. Small, light weight, fast, powerful, and can probably get away with some basic 3D as well. Very versatile plane that looks to be a ton of fun! How are the stock electronics? The motor seems decent, how are the servos? Will they hold up to pushing the speed on this? I have some 1200mah 6s packs that would be itching to really see what kind of speed this can do on a 5 x 5 or 5 x 6 prop if I could find one!
Basic aerobatics yes, 3D no, allthough it does do a gnarly poptop! About 50 flights in now I still have zero complaints about the electronics. As I'm using it mainly as an FPV platform right now I won't be going towards the 6s setup anytime soon (short flight times), so I don't know how she holds up then. (I assume it will work fine and dandy as there's almost no heat generation on 4s...)
That sounds great. Aerobatics is what I meant, I prefer Heli's for 3D Flight so this seems to fit what I want from a plane perfectly! Thanks for the info, Great to hear the stock electronics are holding up. What flight time are you getting flying around on 3s in FPV? Also, what is the stator size of the motor? I hate the hobbyking motor sizing of using the motor can, doesn't mean anything and very hard to compare with other companies that use stator size.
did you bought it from the global warehouse? I want to buy one, but it seems it´s not available in Europe. it´s a shame, not just due to the extra fees to pay here in Holland, but as well, every time you need spare parts, you got to order it from Hong Kong
They were available from the EU warehouse, I guess they sold out. My guess is they are having a new batch made to send out to the warehouses, sometimes that takes a while. The extra fees are allright, prices in the EU warehouse are higher because then HK has already paid the taxes to get them to the warehouse... (*You do pay more for shipping obviously) They also stock spares in the local warehouses, so those should be available in the EU warehouse.
just one more question, if I may. I spouse you high rate and low rate. How much weight at low rate for aleron and elevator? sorry, but I'm flying for less than a year.
watch.firefly try this: 60% throttle (on full throttle it has too much torque and will start to roll), launch underhand (grab it on the top, over the black canopy), give it a good toss about 40° up and start flying it, while slowly going to full throttle. If you have the elevator on the side you're holding the TX with you can pull up a bit when you toss the plane, that helps too...
@@TomDeWeerdt Thanks. With stock rudder servo arm and pushrod on outer hole and rudder moved in to center hole, mine wasnt holding knife edge. What position is your rudder pushrod in the rudder horn? tia
Ozzy3333333 outer hole on the servo (TSS 10MG) and middle hole on the rudder. Chances are the servo can’t cope with the force, try middle hole on rudder arm first, if that doesn’t work change to a stronger servor like the 10MG!
Hells Gate thanks! An oldie but a goodie. The one in this vid crashed due to a faulty elevator servo, got a new one and switched the servo’s out for digital MG’s.
Ok, might need to do that myself then. I just found and subed your channel. I also just ordered my Efxtra and cant wait. Thanks for replying mate. Have a good one and look forward to more of your videos
Hells Gate thanks! It’s a good investment. I use Turnigy TSS-10MG and TSS-11MG. Nice little upgrade if you’re planning on flying it for a long time. These plastic gears will wear out after a while...
@@TomDeWeerdt . Have these servos been ok? I see they are not a full metal gear servo, even though they are advertised as full. I saw one review had bought 10 of them and half had issues, but mostly they had a good review. Oh alot of play was another issue. At least they are cheap to buy a few anyway. Thanks
gingermattb wow that's a difficult question! They're both very fast but their handling and presence in the sky is very different. In comparisson the Excalibur is the elegant one and the EFXTRA is the agressive speedmachine. There's obviously a big size difference, that can be a factor for someone that would have to choose. The FPV flying was a bit of a revelation for me, so if I'd had to choose between the two right now I'd go with the EFXTRA.
Thanks Tom, didn't realise that. Still I speculatively put up the old EFX for sale and it went quickly for a decent price, so I now have an EFXtra on the way!
If scratches affect the flying performance is a problem I wouldn't get it but you figure that high in the sky you'd probably not notice it. You also land belly down, but I get your point, belly landers are typically good for grass.
I have no idea, I guess we'll have to wait for that untill it gets released. If I remember correctly the EFX was around 120€ in the Euro Warehouse 2 years ago.
Recently bought #69 red EFXtra & a green 1. I run 4s only, Now local residents are trying to get us banned from our local park but they have no legal right to do so. Maybe I put a Talon 90 in red 1 & run a 6s from my 450L Dominator heli. I don't fly it on Sundays because it would annoy me too!!
Hope you guys can sort it out! I'm only running 4s now, haven't done FPV with it for a while, currently enjoying slow pan & tilt stuff on the Tundra...
james PrO one EFXTRA and 2 batteries to be exact :) If you look through em you will find less favourable reviews, really like this one. Crashed nr1 (faulty elevator servo after 3-400 flights) and bought a new one with actual moneys. Bought new graphene panthers for it as well. Full disclosure :)
Hallo RC Modellflieger ! The main changes are: different motor, more room for bigger battery, clipped wing with more reinforcement, different rudder, FPV canopy, better magnets for the hatch, nice metal spinner. Those are the really visible upgrades, don't have an old EFX to compare in detail...
69 hahahah
Exactly!
All these other reviewers get the blue and the green one.
What is HK trying to tell me?
Tom De Weerdt haha

Ian Summers go for it!!!

I just bought the Durafly Tundra. great plane l, by the way. Maybe I'll need to wait a bit until it's available. 😥

Very curious how this will fair against the e-flite V900. I might get both and find out.

Jo Mata RC Junky sorry dude totally missed your question...
I don’t use rates but go with big throws and a lot of expo, that works for me!
Can you please do a video on how to hand launch such planes? I can never seem to be get them going when hand launching.

riverstrat especially on racers 60% throttle is the way to go, these high RPM’s give you massive torque at low speed!
How much rudder did you have to add to barely get a knife edge at WOT? TIA Yous should try 5 or 6s, then 4s feels slow.
About 75%, holds it very well, does knife edge circles like that as well! Keeping it at 4s for now, good enough for some fun!

@Tom De Weert - I have the old EFX and the new Excalibur - how does this compare to the Excal? Which do you prefer?

Many thanks Tom. I think I am going to sell my old EFX and get a snot green EFXtra for this very reason - I would like to try the FPV angle.
gingermattb you can also just buy the FPV canopy for a couple of dollars in the Durafly spare parts section, that will fit on your EFX as well

Tom - great flying mate - what's your power setup. 3S or 4S and what prop?
This is 4s (2200 Graphene's) with the supplied 7x6.5.
It's actually not that much slower on 3s with the 8x6 prop...
Thanks mate - BTW - loved the blender!
Hey mate one last question for you. On 4S what is your flying weight?
I have no clue, and I won't be around my beloved planes for another few hours, I'll check and get back to you in the evening!
935 grams with the 1800 Graphene (4s) in LOS mode, 1030 grams with the FPV pod (same Lipo, also carrying a 350mAh 2s Lipo for FPV)
just orderd one. How is it to build any glue needed. does it take long to build
No, really quick build.
I put a few tips in the hobbynews article, see link in decription.
Enjoy your speedmachine!
Tom De Weerdt thx for the fast aswer.
looks great! such a shame i cant use it here because all the landing spot are on dirt and it will harm the plane
Too bad Zivos, it really is a fun machine!
and its beautiful
zivos Co can't you put a thin coat under the plane?
i don`t know if it will do the job, it depends on how slow it can fly when landing it ...
If scratches affect the flying performance is a problem I wouldn't get it but you figure that high in the sky you'd probably not notice it. You also land belly down, but I get your point, belly landers are typically good for grass.
lucky dog ! great flying.FPV pod is an option?
It's included with the plane! I wanted to maiden LOS but I will definately be doing an FPV video soon!
