- Today we take the Radtel RT-490 and go through the menus, key up on frequencies that it shouldn't be allowed to transmit on, plus put the radio on the TinySA to see what type of signal it has. The results might surprise you...

The Radtel RT490 comes under many names and they are great little radios. They come also in digital and analog type of radios as in analog only version. In my opinion the the Jianpai 8800 is the cleanest of them all and they have a nice form factor and many features most other radios do not have like usb C charging and bluetooth programming with Odmaster app, dual PTT, chanel nob, nice display and great menu packed with many things. Overall worth the price in my opinion ! Great video !!!
Yes, I have the Jianpai 8800 as well and fully agree with you. It is a fabulous radio, though I think the mic gain could be stronger. Terry KI5UHR
Finally been looking for this a year
I like mine. Works well. Programmable through chrip. I’m a big fan of all your videos. 😊
Glad you like them!
UV-5R can be unlocked to receive and transmit on 220. Just do a quick search on videos showing this hack. I am not sure what output power the UV-5R has at 220, but it definitely works.
Output power is about 1/2 a watt. It isn't worth mentioning
@@HamRadio2 Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
But a 1/2 a watt, ran through a linear Amp, get you back in the fight!
I think the Baofeng ANI feature may be set to ON. It transmits a special set of DTMF tones, to identify each radio, to a dispatcher. It can be set to TX before or after talking.
What about power output and voice clarity? Seeing something about these would be really helpful. Thanks for another fine video.
TPMS sensors are available in two frequencies: 315MHz (US) and 433MHz (EU) so a car purchased in the EU could be affected by this radio- but bringing cars in like that is so rare that the interference will never be noticed.
Just a quick tip. When I first bought this I thought that the sound was very muffled.
The sound can be much improved by turning off the GPS.
Great video!! I have a tiny ultra SA ordered to test my handles out!! Great video
Awesome! Thank you!
These radios can be hacked to transmit about anywhere from 100 to 600 MHz but with the typical limitations, no filtering below 400 MHz, output power varies over the spectrum between nothing and 10 W, but surprisingly independent of the power setting (!), and in AM mode it just says AM on the display but it isnt AM in Tx. Not sure whether there is a difference between the 8 brands under which it is sold. Stay safe and legal
Great review if you can look at reviewing Radtel RT 580G interested in looks to be a good radio but it needs your stamp on it lol.
that a interesting HT. just 2 meter filtering is bad on TX. love the 220 part. somewhat like that Talkpod A36. that transmit tone is crazy. love how you can do a harmonic test now. still looking for good triband HT. around that price range to around $100 ish range. love the radio reviews and testing. keep them coming. 73's
Those beeps are the ANI (automatic ID) I believe. I think it was the DTMFST menu option at around 6:00
Thanks, I'll check that
Hi 👋🏼 Heyjo its great. Bluetooth and GPS, Just one of this can be used... The App ist also great
Its a great radio amazing air band and great mil air receiving Look for the replacement battery with usb-c charging a nice addition
Yep
Hi Ham Radio 2.0 , can you do the harmonic test video for TYT TH-UV88 and Retevis RT85?
Sure
ISM is just what the 2.4 Ghz and 5.8 Ghz bands are technically classed under prior to the WiFi Alliance building out the Spec. It stands for "Industry Science Meterology" thats measurement devices. ISM devices are Secondary Users of the spectrum with Amateur Radio as Primary Users.
Why does everyone push HT's in everything? Where's the mobiles and bases?!? Solar/Battery powered mobiles?!? Suitcase Radios capable of being used outside of a vehicle or in it?!? Disconnect it from the 12V in the car and slap a battery on it, toss it in a backpack with a capable antenna and go. Thanks it in the house and plug it into the wall..
I've got videos for all of those but there's a place for HTs also
I'd like to see a modern SSB capable rig that operates on 220.
Recent ones? I agree there's a place for HT's don't get me wrong, just you look and that's what 90%± of the videos out there...
@@CyborgAlienBariaurYes because that is what people watch. When I do videos about HTs, they always get alot more views than mobile or base station radios. But I will have a new video about mobile radios out next week
Well and there seems to be a different HT released by someone somewhere about once a week or so, mobile and base radios just don’t get the love in the market like companies do rushing to put out handheld radios with different features than the other guys. Also I think some companies might actually use an HT product as a feeler for the market, gets liked by people enough I’ve seen some produced higher output mobile styles of the same HT hardware but mobile form and higher output. 🤷🏼♂️ just my observation.
Why do the FCC and FTC allow the importation & sale of non-spec FCC certified equipment, or even no FCC certification? Especially radio transmitters and other electronics imported and sold in the USA through Amazon, Walmart , an eBay? Those agencies would rake in plenty of fines and penalties from the manufacturers and retailers to enforce compliance. The consumer could then actually expect to actually get a decent products that really meet FCC specs.
Yep
Probably for the same reason that they don't enforce Business Band frequency allocation use. It's supposed to be managed through an online database but everyone just ad hoc wings it like CB. And then some of the people that do use the database make completely arbitrary area use claims unnecessarily.
Theyre ht s Get over it jeez Those damaging and deplorable 3 watts
It's too bad this isn't as clean as it should be. But it is good to see some more tri-band radios out there.
Interesting, but not enough for me to go ditching the UV-5X3's I have.
I have the Jianpai 8800, and would love to get my hands on that usb-c battery to replace the cradle-charge battery. If anybody knows where to buy that battery, please post! Great little radio.
So do you need a ham radio license to transmit in the 300MHz range?
No, I said that was NOT in the Ham range. It isn't a Ham band, CB, GMRS, FRS...anything. I think it is used in some commercial or military environments.
So does this radio do GMSR and HAM? How about CB?
Just Ham
Radtel rt-495 next please. I have one and it just came out with an update, 18Mhz to 999Mhz it doesn't tx over 537 ish Mhz and it's watt out put is pretty decent too! @Hamradio2
Hey there.., does this radio has a voicescrambler ? I look for a v´base or mobile for car with open scambler .., not preprogrammed. 73-DU6YX
Not sure
I think their mentality is a s follows: when using any dual-band antenna the second harmonic (280MHz-ish) is attenuated. The Baofeng antennas I tested certainly do. Therefore instead of using proper low-pass filters for each band they just use one low-pass above 500MHz.
They use the antenna as low-pass filter which is ... novel, I guess. Not proper, passable imo.
In the us 225.00 mhz to400.0. mhz is used by the military.in some countries like austrailia and england , i'ts used by government services like police fire etc.
Bought the GPS version of this, could never get GPS to lock on. Bluetooth is a nice programming feature from android smartphone. Horrible Vox control making unusable with a Baofengs APRS cable. I don't plan to keep it.
355 - 400 Mhz is in the military 225.000 to 399.975 Mhz UHF band.
do a radtel rt-730 if u get a chance
To get the annoying noise off when transmit press menu 43 Ani function off.
Thanks! I will try that
It is also known as the Jianpai 8800.
Mine is from China no c connector for charging added a fold down antenna
I think they are all from China
462.550+ .5625 is channel 1 .550 is channel 8
