I don't think the bad paint job is the issue. The car is a 2016 model, so it's 8 years old and was likely covered from the sun, which could explain the difference in appearance.

Do it, just a headache with the aftermarket kit a lot of obstacles but the finish product is superb. Just did it to mine

I saw a kit on eBay that updates the w221 to the w222. Came with fenders, hood, everything, but really expensive at around $10k
