Let's see the sort-of definitive "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" example to encourage people that "settled" for the Mini what they can do with the things that actually matter: cinematography, editing, and the actual content.
Same. I’m interested in doing “serious” photography and cinematography, but I’m just a student with no budget. I’m also saving money for a new phone because I need an upgrade and the 13 Mini is inside my budget. If I can use this phone as a “serious” camera while I save enough for a professional one, it’d be great. I’m looking foward to those kind of videos.
I'm not a professional, but I'd think when Apple strips so much of the manual settings from the art of photography, the craft would shift towards an emphasis on shot selection, lighting, editing...no? If you’re ever back to using the max, a tiny drag down motion on the bottom of your screen brings the top half of the interface down to thumb reach distance. Opposite motion takes the interface full screen again 👍

FROM A PHONE. It's not perfect and still needs work but it's definitely a MASSIVE step in the right direction! 💪🏻

You missed his point completely. You can now get almost cinema level quality using a smartphone for your video production. iPhone has definitely lowered the bar and continues to do so. Most cannot afford a crew or the equipment to get that high level production value. YT as a platform has really changed the game, we have seen over the years how production/content quality has evolved thanks to smartphones, modes and AI.

The awkward shimmy is too real lol. I love big phones for their overall viewing pleasures but I strategically have to place all essential apps near the bottom of the home screen for my sanity 😅
The thing with the cinematic mode again is that if you're only looking for autofocus around a scene, regular video can do that. But I see a few differences: 1. Regular video has autofocus (no target, just assumed) and an assigned spot in the frame to lock. Cinematic does much more... 2. Cinematic analyzes and follows potential targets to choose an autofocus element to be tracked 3. Cinematic in auto chooses what it thinks is the best target in scene to track (like facial focus) 3. Cinematic boosts the DOF blur just like in Portrait mode but for video (but I think this is really the only reason there's the haloing effect; if the DOF blur could be disabled, all the autofocusing I don't think would be affected at all)
The hood on the macro lens bit made me laugh. I’ve taken mine on and off my Sigma 105 so many times and I still find myself doing the exact same thing you did. That thing just won’t go on there

Amazing video as always. Question, why don’t you use the 6.1” 13 Pro? A good compromise between the Mini and Max but this year you get the benefit of the better cameras of the Max without the size disadvantage. Also, would love the vlog video shot with the 13.
I think the iPhone also goes with a certain "look" when it makes photo. a lot of smartphone producer care about a great lense but apple thinks of the whole big picture. the video mode is definitely a bummer I have not on my 12 pro max but I did not feel that this mode justifies that sudden upgrade ( which then would be twice this year.) + the mini does not have the RAW feature which is a loss. now they just need to make final cut pro for iPad and we can call it a day and go all iPad.

Leaving it up to AI will make all photos look the same without even trying. The whole "cinematics" feature will give us every bloody video on the web looking the same. Rather than "cinematics" serving the visual story, "cinematics" become the focus and story comes second. I don't think I like that. I suppose however those with actual photo talent could use those tools to make something unique. Perhaps a parody of every video you see on the interwebs going forward.😉
the person holding the camera is still responsible for all the other elements that make a great piece. The iPhone offers the cinematics tools but you are still responsible for the composition and the story of that piece.
