Great video man. I’ve been working on these engines for approximately 11 years now. Not only in cars but also in Clark forklifts as they have the 2.4l Kia/hyundai engine. And this video is spot on. Video pretty much consists of “a 10mm here and a 10mm there” lol😂😂😂
@Motorcarnut I should be more specific a compatible swap within the Hyundai family, having a hard time finding this specific engine and saw that the Santa Fe or some of Kia's cars might have the same engine.
@benjamingordon995 they do but many may require you to use your intake or exhaust manifolds or may or may not have a sensor you need and can be different. Best thing to do is ask salvage yard they have the information and will know what fits or what you have to do to make it fit.
Sorry. We just got a call today to come pick it up. Once they got approval, they had it replaced in a week. Total time, two weeks. Guess it depends on the dealer
@@kaylaortega3524 no we didn’t but we had all the receipts just in case. My wife being the original owner, 2013 with only 79,900 miles on it and she religiously took care of any recalls. We just picked it up today actually and alls good.
Awesome video! I might swap out an engine on a Sorento with a blown 2.4L. This was really helpful. Can you please tell me what hanger bar you used to support the transmission?
Thats the one i bought comes with l brackets but ill probably use the hook points wasnt sure if that would hold the motor great video answersed all of my wonders @@motorcarnut
Hi, I have a 2.4GDI 2016 Kia optima, I’m not sure whether I should take out the converter bolts out, can I pull out the engine without taking the 17mm bolts on the converter? Or would I have to take it out for the engine to slide out? Thanks
Are you referring to the engine hoist or the engine support? Well either of the you can get at a decent cost at Harbor Freight. Just look them up on there site for prices.
Thanks man I work on my cars when they break how difficult do you think it is for someone who hasn’t worked in engines jet, and what could go wrong about the car not running after replacing the engine as me as a newbie but after watching your video I’m feeling confident I know it is a lot of work
This is gonna be my first motor swapping my brother blew a head gasket and it dont sound good at all whats the main thing you struggled with? i do feel confident tho
That depends on knowledge, equipment and experience. I can take in out in about two hours but a do it yourselfer can probably have it out in a weekend.
@@kevinwashburn9677 haven't took mine off yet I've soaked them two or three times already haha going to attack the exhaust this weekend and I think I'll be pulling it
Yea, I started blasting mine from the top with Penetrating oil before I started tearing down the top side. Once I got to them they broke free fairly easy. Just get a good bite in them before turning. I used a 3/8” breaker bar as the 1/2” was too long. You’ll need plenty of extension reach also. Good luck.
kia GDi motor siezed up while driving. It will not crank. BUT if i remove the spark plugs out of the engine, the engine will crank just fine, no knock, no rattle, cranks about normal speed. I put the plugs back in and it will "not crank" it is stuck and if I keep trying the starter will burn out. why is this?
We are actually fixing to swap one in a 2011 Kia optima these Kia and Hyundai are so common for engine problems they just ain’t the best engines in the world unfortunately
You do not do a job like this without a lot of experience and a lot of confidence. Kudos.
Thank you!
“You do not do a job like this without a lot of patience and some mechanical knowledge”
There I fixed it for you…
Thank you for such a "straight to the point" video, very well done!
I appreciate that! Thank you!

Wow didn’t know they were in Clark forklifts too
Looking for a compatible swap for a 2010 Hyundai Sonata Gls 2.4L. Any suggestions?
@benjamingordon995 Not really, won’t benefit from a different engine anyway
@Motorcarnut I should be more specific a compatible swap within the Hyundai family, having a hard time finding this specific engine and saw that the Santa Fe or some of Kia's cars might have the same engine.

Crazy you did this in 12 mins! I just got my optima back from Kia for warranty engine swap. Took them 3 months..
That’s crazy

It took 12 mins to remove?
Apparently you don’t know how editing works
This is what we needed. Thanks
Sure, no problem thanks for the comment.
Thank you so much for this video!
You are so welcome!

That one is from Harbor freight cost about $80 (2024)

Thanks for the video man, you make it looks very easy
Do we need to program or calibrate something after engine replace if Im using a used engine?
Thank you!
No, should be good to go.

It probably can come out that way just make extra room for it to clear the converter.
can you put a 2015 kia optima engine on a 2012 hyundai sonata swap?
Yes, if they are both 2.0 but you may has some different sensors so would be good to swap intake manifolds as well.
does the 2019 have the same 2.4liter motor?
Pretty similar
Great video man! Where can I buy that jack that you’re using to lift up the engine and how much thank you

@augustomejia not too bad just follow my video if you get stuck give me a holler!
would a 2019 kia optima 2.4 engine fit a 2015 hayundai santa fe sport 2.4
The block and heads would but not sure about intake manifolds
can the intake be trasfered from the santa fe to the kia optima ?
@AbbeyIsabella-yv2if if it’s the same engine yes
This is gonna be my first motor swapping my brother blew a head gasket and it dont sound good at all whats the main thing you struggled with? i do feel confident tho
Rusty bolts, but take your time and work in clean and orderly way and mark things and take photos for reference and you’ll be fine.
Approximately how long did the removal take?
That depends on knowledge, equipment and experience. I can take in out in about two hours but a do it yourselfer can probably have it out in a weekend.
good instructions here
Glad it was helpful!
Good video
Glad you enjoyed!
would this be a very similar process to a Hyundai Santa FE 2017?
If it’s a 2.4 and not a 6 cylinder then yes
Was this the awd model
No, FWD
Do you recall what size bolts for exhaust flange? I can't figure it out.
Sorry, not off hand
The exhaust bolts on my 2013 Optima are 19mm. Just make sure you hit em with some Penetrating oil several times before cranking on them.

Is this pretty much the same process of removal for the 2.0? Have to do my next week
Yes it is.
I believe I'm about ready to pull the engine in mine and did not know that you could unhook from computer and fuse box............ 😢
Yep
Can u take the transmission out with engine
Sure, it’s more work unless transmission is bad as well.

Probably because of the compression, hydro locked or mechanical obstruction.
I did not see you remove the starter I did my starter and had to remove the intake to get to it
This video is about an engine removal
About how long did it take in and out?
Couple of hours to pull the engine
We are actually fixing to swap one in a 2011 Kia optima these Kia and Hyundai are so common for engine problems they just ain’t the best engines in the world unfortunately
I know, I made many videos on them and the recall to get a new engine.
Thanks for not showing the other side of the engine.
The video was about removing the engine.
Buddy didn't even watch the video I seen every inch of that thing in this!
Do you like working on Hyundai and Kia?
I like working and any vehicle
