Because the Chrome is allied with the Last Reality, so the Cube Queen would need to return (which is why I think they scrapped the event where the Zero Point woke up and wiped out the Last Reality, because they needed to be able to bring them back in the future).

i think chapter 2-4 did happen, just a little differently. because Midas was still dead and was able to rise up from the underworld during the last season, so those events still happened, just maybe in a bit of a different way.

I have a theory: The reasoning behind how Gunnar (megalo don) returned, is because in Chapter 4 Season 4 when Kado Thorne used his time machine to steal *Gunnar's Stinger SMG*, Kado Thorne obviously created an alternate timeline in which Gunnar has arisen from that alternate timeline. And since many people say he was killed by Doctor Doom, he might still be alive now, just hiding his identity as Megalo Don for the moment until maybe the end of the season.
All of those seemed pretty intriguing. However, the most likely story is that there is none. They just gave up on it and are bringing absolutely random crap to the game whenever nowadays

People keep thinking that the new characters referencing Chapter 2 are only based on one of the Chapter 2 characters. This is wrong. Megalo Don (who is hybrid reference to Gunnar, Big Chuggus and one other Chapter 2 skin that I forgot) and The Machinist are clear evidence of them being hybrid references, similar to how OG had fusions of season 1 skins. It does beg the question of who the other one besides Midas for Montague and the other one besides Meowscles for Oscar are though.

Theory: I think what Zeus was trying to do was bury Pandora's box since he was already too weak to fight more stuff coming from it, and involuntarily he made the mini event happen, probably Megalodon saw the power from it and tried to gather it, so he kidnapped the chaos agent (probably when midas escaped the island idk) to process it (since the chaos agent it's known for his experiments with slurp and other stuff), then after gathering all that he could he headed to the island knowing nitro came from there and that's why there's so much machinery extracting stuff from the ground, for what?, idk but it looks like he just wants power and control, but we'll see. The vault being Fallout related and the addition of more Fallout store skins is the theory I've been clinging to/hoping for.
Considering dr doom killed gunnar in the comics, and hes rumored to be returning next season makes that theory even more believable
