The only way to become a craftsman is to make a lot of mistakes. Every mistake is a learning opportunity. In ten years you too will be something of a craftsman. Be proud of your work no matter where you are on the curve. There is great joy in everything made with your own hands. I have a small shop still (I'm 68 now). I live on a sailboat. Nothing is square. I often have to make two of everything. The first one is to see where the mistakes will be. The second one is the one that goes in the boat. I love watching you three. (I loved the little cat too). Thank you for being.
The new window frames are brilliant, true enough. But in all fairness, I have been watching you two every step of the way from start to finish with an old beat up boat becoming Holly. And although in your eyes it may not be perfect, to me you guys made a beautiful dream come true. Stay groovy and stay safe.
Hello, I like to piece quilts. When I started I pointed out all my mistakes and almost gave up. A friend told me finished is better than perfect and if you can't see the mistake riding passed on a horse, then not to fuss about it. It was good advice, because I keep making mistakes and learning from them. My quilts aren't perfect but no one else can see the mistakes and I enjoy making them with out the anxiety. Have a great week.
Its great to have people around to help you sort the tricky bits. Don't put yourself down, you both did a tremendous job getting Holly business ready, you should be proud of yourselves. Best wishes
Not only did Mike Jordan do work on our boat, Longpod, but he wrote articles about it in Waterways World and some items feature his book. The TV unit is the middle picture on the front. We didn’t own the boat at the time but we came across the book in Midland Chandlers and I suddenly though “that’s our boat”.
I had the pleasure of working with a father and son who came from Belfast and had worked for Harland & Wolfe, fitting out ships cabins etc. They turned up with a wooden suit case type tool box each, filled with all they needed for their trade. No horrible plastic tools for them, many were self made, when they used a chisel the sharpening stone was right beside them so the edge was like a razor. NO BODY TOUCHED THERE TOOLS. I just loved to watch them work. When finished it will be like having surround "Picture windows" and what a great space to sit and have a coffee. Enjoy every minute and stay safe, thanks for posting.
Tradesmen and women, so ignored in the past 30 years yet in the background they continue their amazing skills. What fabulous work and the transformation it brings to "Holly the Cafe Boat", though I'm not decrying your individual efforts to get the business off the ground. Family life is proceeding apace and I wonder what memories William is recording right now - priceless. Thanks for bringing me along on this positive journey.
Another great vlog. William is adorable and growing quickly. Don’t beat yourselves up about your “amateurish handiwork” I think Holly looks brill, I’ve watched you two from day one and the transformation has been amazing. Well done both of you. X
You've both worked so hard though and not only that you've taken us all along for the journey too it's brilliant to feel a small part of it too thank you X
What windows? Obviously, I only have eyes for William as he grows. I was a little apprehensive when Vic started talking about minimalism without a shirt on, thinking, "What? Has he gone and given away all his shirts?"
You’ve done okay Vic. You should be proud of yourself. All that time and effort from both of you over the past year or so. You’ve made very few obvious mistakes, so I say “well done”. William continues to grow and has developed a lovely smile, whilst Joanna looks as beautiful as ever.
You do and always have worked so hard, you're both an inspiration and William is gorgeous, well done. Beautiful job - credit to your mates/craftsmen. 👏
The windows are stellar! It takes an expert to make something like that and it takes years to become an expert. There are those of us who don't know a wrench from a screwdriver so you are doing great. 🙄 Looks like a good time at the pub. Glad you made the train. William seems to be really thriving and is so cute and I love seeing the kitten. Is he yours?
Jo, Vic, What an excellent Vlog again. William is growing fast, and it's lovely to see his warm smile. Loving your new window frames on Holly, Dave and his Dad have done an amazing job. Your pub lunch looked really Yummy. Stay safe, and Take Care.
Great Vlog, thank you for letting us all into your lives, and never be afraid of asking your partner for time on your own, or just time without looking after a child. We need that break away time. Thank you, lots of love Andrew.
A bit of Jo's artistic insight showed through her remark, "It's not rustic anymore if one of the elements is absolutely perfect." Now I wonder if the perfect windows will bother you into more "improvements". From what I've seen, they will meld well with the rest of Holly. To be honest, I rather liked Vic's DIY window frames. They looked good from camera distance 😎 and I like remembering how Vic did them. When Holly was ready to sail, she was beautiful inside and out.
You both did so well in the early days so don't put yourselves down. The most useful subject I did in school was woodwork and I am still using the techniques I learnt then fifty years later. The second most useful was how to research a subject and where to go to the find the information you need.
Beautiful, just beautiful! I would tell you that you really hit the lucky strike when you took your turn but, based on your reaction, you are very aware and dumbfounded by your luck. I agree! and…AND, you take William out on a windy day and he doesn’t fight the wind nor are all three of you up all night because he has two terrible earaches. What an amazing thing! I can’t think of a better family to be tapped with a lucky stick! Congratulations! And great enjoyment was had by all watching things come together. Absolutely stunning!
Those window frames are great, but don't think your work is less than good, it's a learning curve for anyone to take up new skills, you can only get better and better. I cant wait until Holly is up and running then I will find you for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Love your vlogs ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed this one, y’all. My daddy was a carpenter, my mama’s daddy was a finish carpenter. Both my boys have worked has carpenters, but their main work skill for probably 10 years was cooking from scratch (restaurants/cafes/home) and/or baking from scratch (at home). Their daddy was a skilled carpenter and cook; those two apples didn’t fall far from the tree. As much as y’all will expose William to your skills by being his parents, we’ll see as time goes by how he fits into all sorts of things going on on Zero and Holly. It’s lovely to see how he’s already working on his smile to match y’all’s! See you next time.
Wow, what a transformation but do not knock all your previous woodwork, you were running on borrowed time back then to get your cafe up and running. A boat is always a work in progress. William is just a pleasure and such a happy boy. Well done you 3 on another great vlog, it is so good to have these to look forward to again.
Very nice, everything takes time to learn. The internet is a handy teacher at times. Working out what you want and how to do it is the main step. Thanks, have fun and take care.
The windows are fab but also the both of you should be proud of the work you have done on Holly. William is gorgeous love going on your journey take care
Have they ever explained why they moor their boats so far apart. I'd never let Holly out of my sight! Such amazing work. It's inspired me to take on my work on my 60 year old house.
Wish there would have been a video in the shop where the frames were made. Oh well. They look beautiful. A cordless trim router! Didn’t have those when I was building houses. I want one. Enjoyed the video as always. Thank you.
The windows are beautiful but the work you two did to your boats is too, a joiner is a very experienced woodworker so you can't expect to produce equally well finished products while you're still learning the processes involved. William's looking great as is your new cat friend...🐈
Division of labor, but with the love of that labor. That is a right proper relationship (been watching too many British TH-camrs) and William seems to enjoy it.
Back in the day I purched a bare hull FG hull; a 32' cutter it would become in 8 long years. The problem was my carpentry did not live up to my vision. I would build and tare out until I eventually hired a young wood artist who fulfilled my dream. Sound familiar? She did become a beauty. Cheers, Courtenay
Another gorgeous vlog :) I am just buying my first narrow boat and wanted to have a mini aga. Did you need to reinforce the floor for yours ? Thank you x
Another great video guys. Don't underestimate your first fix on Holly - it was a great job - it's easy to point out faults, but it can't be as easy fitting out on water than it is fitting out on land! Windows are looking great! Stay safe :-)
Vic holy looked good before you will get better as you go like your mate said you are now learning and learning how to do it the right way The windows frames look brilliant a credit to the fabricator William is going great guns you guys should be proud of yourselves raising a child in a normal house is not easy at the best of times and to do it one narrow boat is nothing short of fantastic Lol on throwing out the umbrella 🤣 😂 Great work guys keep it up Been following from the start
Bless vic trying his hardest not to dad dance on camera to keep William content 😁 The only way is to just keep moving and rocking side to side 😬 babies with hiccups is always funny. you’re so right to take little snippets out to just have some ‘me’ time whenever you can. 🤗🤗 Holly will be looking fantastic in no time the way Vic, Dave and Dave’s Dad are working.🤗🤗
The window frames look great! Carpentry is one of those things that are really tricky to do right. Plumbing, electrical, mechanical one can usually work through ir, your dealing with standard sizes and material which isn't affected by weather. Carpentry on the other hand, requires bigger tools, a larger work area and wood is not a stable material. I just finished an electric guitar build, a kit from Fretwire. Four coats of sanding sealer, two coats of primer, two coats of black base coat, two coats of color and two coats of 2K gloss clear. From a distance it looks great, but to quote one of my favorite lines from the movie Clueless: “No, she’s a full-on Monet. It’s like a painting, see? From far away, it’s OK, but up close, it’s a big old mess” - Cher
It’s Friday again they come round fast nice to see you three again. Gosh William is gorgeous how he’s grown and has a lovely smile ❤️. I think you both do wonderfully when you think how Holly looked when you got her don’t do yourselves down you’ve made a cracking good job of her. The windows are fabulous looking forward to see what else you are going to do. Enjoying the little trips on the train as well. Take care xxx
The windows look fantastic - well done to Dave’s Dad! What a difference they make! You and Dave did a good job with the router and fitting. However, you got rid of a new umbrella, Vic!! 🤣 Jo’s face was a picture! Kind regards to you all from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
Good choice going to the Vic. They doing a brilliant music festival in the summer, in the marquee. Next time you’re in Beeston check out the Crown, and the Star, if you like scrumptious home-made pizzas. These two pubs are very close by.
You two are just so lovely, and your new baby, but looking at your baby's VOM! on your jumper might just put off your customers. Keep smiling it gets easier, your doing great as a little family all the very best.
You need a temporary storage shed for your overflow so you can place surplus items in there before you bin or donate, to give you time to think about before pitching
At least in your clear out you didn't accidentally throw out you son ! lol. Watching a woodwork craftsman at work is so inspiring but makes you realize how much is still to be learnt. Anyhow, William is taking it all it so he will be able to show you how it is done. Take care and keep safe and well. ....Chris x
Who woulda thunk it,... a guy can learn a thing or two in a half century of wood working!? Those window frames look great!! So does all the stuff you did too! Thanks for sharing your journey,....I have enjoyed all your videos,...keep them coming!

Correct That's what old school apprentices were all about. I look back with horror at my earlier attempts that destroyed good hulls.
One of the first things anyone should learn is, protect your eyes and lungs when working with wood.
The new window frames are brilliant, true enough. But in all fairness, I have been watching you two every step of the way from start to finish with an old beat up boat becoming Holly. Totally agree!
Ah thanks MA! And be sure to stay groovy yourself 🕺😎

Nice to see Rosie cat is supervising David at all times, great update
I love this channel. You three are so warm and attractive that watching the progress is addictive. Best wishes from Ireland!
Its great to have people around to help you sort the tricky bits. Don't put yourself down, you both did a tremendous job getting Holly business ready, you should be proud of yourselves. Best wishes
I think those two timber technicians deserve free coffee and cake for life.
The boat is looking ship shape.
How cute is your son?

I was really excited when I saw there was a new episode of Holly. Seeing William made My Day.
What beautiful windows! You'll appreciate them more, after all the DIY you did on your own. Love seeing William, too.

Another great production and nice to have a good news story for a change in our stupid world, thanks from Australia 🙃🇦🇺

Everything is learning opportunity, wrong or right we all learn. A lot of it is knowledge, but the right tools help! Keep going you are doing well 😊

Life's about learning from one's mistakes.Windows look very nice.Big 🤗 for William.
Thank you 3, for sharing great vlog🙏✝️🕊🙏
What a change to the look of Holly those window surrounds make. Fantastic 😍 to see you polishing the finish of Holly 👍
Don't be hard on yourself about the diy it got you this far and very hard to find good craftsmen to work with you. Looks great 👍
Brilliant craftsmen!
On a different note, I now cannot imagine a video without William! xx

"The poor guy's been reduced to hiccups - I think he speaks for us all there". Absolutely Brilliant!
Hi All the window frames look amazing , Great video and very interesting to watch , thanks for sharing take care all .

I look forward to the future when Holly the Buffet car travels the rail network. Nice windows too.

The Victoria Hotel! Good choice, great food 😋 My home town.

The window surrounds look great. Love your Vlogs.
Looking good!
Just don't use brass screws on the Iroko, it results in a horrible chemical reaction that rots the wood.
Well done.
It is looking beautiful!
Congrats on the new team member.
Good choice going to the Vic. They doing a brilliant music festival in the summer, in the marquee.
Next time you’re in Beeston check out the Crown, and the Star, if you like scrumptious home-made pizzas. These two pubs are very close by.
This is basically a "Do DIY" - because without doing the DIY you would never have been able to appreciate the craftmanship
Beautiful woodworking and a wonderful son named William. Best part of the vlog.
Beautiful windows!
Excellent you guys
windows look amazing
Nice job on the Frames :)
Looking fantastic guys, can’t wait to see Holly one day 👍🏻❤️ X X X
You two are just so lovely, and your new baby, but looking at your baby's VOM! on your jumper might just put off your customers. Keep smiling it gets easier, your doing great as a little family all the very best.
Beautiful Cody Fry music in the vlog guys
Love watching you to beautiful people Maggie Manchester xxx
Bullseye; boy on a boat. Fabulous, thankyou.

Who owns the black and white cat I have seen several times around your boat? Nice little fellow.
Have sat at that table in the Vic many a time, great veggie food in there.
Holly’s widows look great, a little thing going through my mind,is how will you perform when moving two boats, now you have the super star William.
What nice windows!
I've seen solar panel boxes on US RVs that that have 6 inche deep storage underneath
As usual superb.
William is adorable
I don’t drink Coffee but I do love Cake and Ice Cream. Watching your videos get’s a love as well 👍😀
Is that the first time the coffee has come in the window rather than out?
