The research done for this video seems to be extremely poor . They had not just Adani stocks, but PSUs PSBs , outperforming stocks like ITC which helped the churn out the returns . They were out of the Adani enterprise stock way before the Hindenberg report came out . The two adani stocks which they are currently holding ,Adani ports and Ambuja , both of them don't command crazy valuations and have quality assets . In fact their mid and small cap funds recently suffered a lot due to fall in PSB stocks , which is mostly some panic profit booking and is probably unwarranted given their current financial position and where the credit cycle stands now . Whether the fund house's stretegy will hold good over market cycles , is something for time to tell . There is no data to suggest whether it will work or not . In this age of such easy access to information , who knows whether their strategy will prevail over the the age old buy and hold strategy or not . Why don't you let the time decide it instead of giving judgements with half baked reasons like adani stocks propelled the funds . And the advice to completely avoid small caps funds and buy large cap funds . Really ? How many large cap funds have outperformed Nifty . And all the flexi cap funds who buys just large cap stocks to play it safe and mostly underperform nifty . At least suggest people to buy index Etfs or funds (and you mentioned corporate governance on small caps , corporate governance issues are present in lots of Indian companies irrespective of their market caps . It's another half baked argument which kind of insults the intelligence of small cap fund managers who can't figure out the issues in companies and just blindly buys them ) This is some really poor work done by you guys. No idea how you guys got to feature in the Finshots article
@@neerajchauhan1869 I agree, the research could be better. Quant small-cap had little (just Ambuja Cement) to no exposure to Adani stocks. So quant small-cap fund performance is independent of Adani. Adani is an event-based crisis that no model can predict. Talking about liquidity, their prospects clearly mentioned that they do include liquidity in the market as a model parameter.
Your analysis could have been better.. Yes, Adani stocks are behind quant funds rise and also recent fall. Remember, quant small cap fund tops the chart of category without Adani stocks.
I chose to invest in Quant Focused Fund when I started investing 2 years back. The reason was that I wanted to see how an actively managed fund with a comparatively higher expense ratio measures up against traditional large, mid and small cap funds. Quant, at least 2 years back, was outperforming other focused funds for more than 5 years. It was also quite old (having started in 2012-13) which meant it had enough exposure of the market which added to ots credibility. Today, I still see it outperforming large and midcap funds regularly though not small cap funds. However, I really like it as it helps balance out my portfolio! So yeah, depends on your risk taking apetite but I'm gonna be holding onto this for long term.
I was invested in Quant Infrastructure fund ,in 3 days after Adani saga it fell 6 percent i then I checked their investment , it was all Adani then I redeemed.
Hi, You mentioned that the QUANT had a big stake in Adani. Can you justify why just seeing the Adani stocks in the scheme makes the gains dependent on Adani? I think a better metric would be to see the fund performance after excluding the Adani stocks, and compare this with other funds. Although, I believe that the QUANT must have had some reasons to choose Adani stocks. PS: I am not in favor of QUANT MF and I have not invested in them.
People should generally invest according to their risk appetite as mentioned in the video. But if you were to have a small cap allocation in your portfolio, you could probably do 10-20% allocation in quant small cap mutual funds.
I have invested in Quant ELSS funds and have been tempted to switch my small cap holdings to Quant seeing the insane returns. But this video put things into perspective. I am gonna stick with my current fund for now and see how things stand in a couple of years. Great content
I have been investing in quant active fund for almost 2 years now. Out of the five different funds that I invest in different categories, quant active fund(flexicap) has been my top pick. Though its returns dropped quite a bit during adani-hindenburg saga, I still feel quant funds seem a worthy risk. But like you said, might have to wait and see what impact a long term bearish market will have on the quant funds.
Great flow of content delivery apart from the quality of content itself!! Would like to see more of this and more importantly consistency of sharing stories.
Few months back Mint published long story on Quant mutual fund ,noting that QUANT spends millions of rupees on data acquisition and makes investments based on the analysis of such data. But They never mentioned about Adani and I was convinced that they are actually doing great but now I realised what was the reality. Thank you sir for this information.
I don't think it is bad to invest in Adani stocks if it provides good returns but the main question is (which Shrehith also pointed out), are they able to move the portfolio out at the time Adani stocks go down. I want to know what was the graph of Quant MF in the month of Feb. If anyone has a source or anyone has invested in it, kindly let meknow.
I sleep peacefully even after I am in huge loss. Thats how equity works. Do fd if you cannot take calculated risks. As far as quant is concerned, they inveated in covid time where anyone could have made easy money without any expertise to identify good bisinesses and stocks. How they perform in the long run with increasing aum is something to see. I would recommend a small amount sip in their small cap. Avoid huge investment as the fund house is yet to prove their potential in normal maket condition.
Whatever the reason the returns on quant mf have been phenomenal which, whatever the method adopted, is due to right stock selection. Fluctuations r part of any equity and future can never be predicted. All in all quant is the best so long as it is transparent accountable and managed by sound professionalism
I would like to hear your comment on risk factors in Quant MF like Sharpe ratio etc. Qualitative assessment is sometimes faulty if not backed by the figures
The increase in AUM can be an issue going forward considering their portfolio turnover ratio. Iam sure fund managers will look into it and find a way...they are already decoupling from Adani stocks...Its always suggested investing in a SIP manner with all your funds. That gives you an insight over an extended period of time on the strategies of various funds...like for eg nobody could have predicted the Adani saga which has hampered the fund...In short, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Great share, really like the detailed videos you put up. I have seen quant active mf turn around negative as their exposure has been more to stocks which have grown exponentially and not in a linear and balanced way.
I think every company has good and bad times as per their decisions. We need to check how they are performing after they exit Adani stocks. If they are still out performing then they are actually good
You seems a newbie in MF & stock market. All big fund houses(L&T, Nippon, Axis, etc.) use algo it’s just that their fund managers are at the helm of it that’s why they name their Fund Managers
Nice video, agree these kind of funds can be very volatile because of their methodology. But these methodology is their IP, which if the company has made spending 100 crores expected to work well. Thier is same something like this which became famous in usa known has medallion find by Mr Jim Simmons. My suggestion is can keep a small part in quant fund which can may giv a support for good returns in overall portfolio of fund. Hoping fornthe best
Small cap funds exists for a reason. Based on your risk profile you invest. Do you have to allocated 100% to quant may be no. But can you invest 25% into quant ? why not ?
One should invest in Nippon India Mutual Fund schemes because of there new Fund Casing strategies given by Japanese. For Consistent returns over a long period of time. Nippon itself is one of the best and major player in japan.
I disagree with your analysis. Quant MF uses a VLRT framework which accommodates liquidity. Sure, Quant MF has become bulkier over time and liquidity will become an issue, but it's the same with other large MFs like Nippon, kotak, etc. Also, let's be real, the other fund managers all use a techno-fundamental framework, which means that they crowd out alpha for each other. A new framework has the potential to generate alpha. Lastly, quant MF also does fundamental analysis as it's part of their VLRT framework.
One small advice...if u wanna sleep like monk then stay away from mutual fund invest in FDs and take a interest thats it....every mutual fund is risky and last me paysa nahi bana to phir quant ho ya axis ho ya icici ho sab bakwas hai finally money matters
@niveshshubharambh Ye log MF me kitane bhi chand dikhade, kitana hi deep me study karalo kuchh kam nahi aata. Technology fund me teji dekh usame do lakh lagaye. 150000 ho gaye. IT share gir gaye. Quant bought escorts few years back, they are not the same. When you don't have knowledge about something, you should better not make a video on it just for views! Just opening a mutual fund app and seeing the past year returns and a few metrics doesn't make u an expert, in fact one should do more research before investing his own money, forget advising others about the same!
I invest for money , but not only for it , it's more like to test my convection so i stayed away from mutual funds and i am directly investing in stocks
Quant Smallcap has given me even returns, not even dipping very much during down periods over the last two years, while Quant Absolute (aggressive hybrid) suddenly crashed in March '23 due to Hindenburg, leaving me with some capital depreciation In fact, I made up by moving from Absolute to Smallcap! When you look at the rolling returns Quant funds performs drastically during bear market, but that's the opportunity in disguise. You can have higher NAV at significantly low price which grows rapidly during the bull market, like 76% in 2020 like you said no other fund house is able to match that. Hence the higher return. Definitely you are taking high risk here, but reward is higher too. Look at the sharpe ratio or sortino ratio and then think again if it's worth the risk.

Quant Sharpe & Jensen are high compared to peers. My recommendation is investing a portion of portfolio in it. Distributed risk.
