I gotta say I really like this stuff. Lots of other retinol serums either made me break out or were too drying. I was using the FAB one for a while but started to suspect it was clogging my pores. I also stopped seeing benefits from it. This one seems to be a perfect balance for me. Also I think it's just right for someone my age, 28. I've been using it for almost 3 months and have definitely seen some benefits. My skin just looks healthier, it's smoother, brighter, and I think it has helped to soften the fine lines on my forehead. I also noticed marks on my skin looking softer. I purchased the "travel size" for $25 and I still haven't ran out. I don't see the need to spend $90 on the full size when the $25 one has lasted me so long. The fragrance is definitely a huge bummer. Almost all of Murad's products contain fragrance. They need to get with the program and offer fragrance free. The fragrance isn't enough to stop me from using it though since my skin likes it so much.. Also, I have combination skin that sometimes feels really tight and dry, but if I put a heavy cream all over I will break out. I am scared to try new serums because so many things have all these plant oils in them that cause me to break out. I'm sticking with what works for now.
This is a great retinol, especially for drier skin because it contains so many hydrating ingredients. And for your age it's a perfect retinol that isn't overly strong, but strong enough to give you some great results. If you ever run out shop around a bit and it pops up on sale from time to time.
This was the first retinol product I started using almost a year ago and it did help my forehead wrinkles but I moved on to other products. I did get into the Sunday Riley retinol which I liked very much but I ended purchasing the Drunk Elephant one not long after and liked it a lot. Then I started using Differin and the Proactiv retinol and that’s when I realized that the Murad and Sunday Riley weren’t as good. However now I’m on tretinoin 0.4% and clyndimiacin and azaelic acid along with it. Now that I know what to use I would’ve never wasted my money on the Murad one. Thanks for reviewing it 😘
It's a great Retinol for starters, and it definitely won't dry out your skin which is a common problem with Retinol, especially for beginners. The Drunk Elephant Retinol is a good and strong one. Although I wish some of the prescription retinoids were more available over the counter like the differin is.
No BS Beauty yes because I feel like I’m getting better results with the tretinoin and even though it’s only 0.04% it’s pretty dang strong. I also have the Inkey List bakuchol and have only used it once, what do you think of it?
I am currently using it in the place of my beloved Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Turbo Serum that PTR discontinued. It doesn't even come close to the PTR Serum that I loved and I can't say that I notice any benefits from it at all. I'm definitely using it just to be rid of it and am on the hunt for a replacement for my lost love. 🙂✌️👍
I still have to wonder why PTR is getting rid of that successful line? So many people love it, and it works so well, it's so frustrating when brands change and get rid of products.
This is the one retinol cream has made a huge difference in my skin. I have very sensitive and dry skin. I tried a sample of Paula’s choice retinol cream to try and find something a little cheaper and boy did it sting! Can you review the Murad Essential-C serum? I’ve always used that line, but now picked up the Cosrx lightening vitamin c serum to try. I think it’s already breaking me out. I’d like to see your thoughts on the Murad vitamin c line.
Oh no! I did notice recently that Cosrx changed their Vitamin C Serum formula. Prior to the reformulation it only had two ingredients, now it has much more... I'm going to have to try the new formula to see if I like it still. I'll have to review that from Murad, I know I have it so I'll try to review it ASAP.
Hi thanks for the review. I have acne prone skin and I am using prescipted EPiduo (it has benzoyl + retinol). Can I alternate with this murad serum (every other night)? Thanks.
Hi Sarah. I have a ? for you regarding this product. I have never has large pores, but all of a sudden I do. They are large everywhere, but not on my forehead. The only new item in my skincare routine is this product. Prior to using this, I did not have this problem. My skin did not do this when I was using the Ordinary’s Grandactive emulsion. I just thought that this product would be a little more potent, as I am trying to ease slowly into retinol products. I used the Ordinary for 8 months. I have combination skin- only slightly oily in the t-zone. I thought that you might be able to give me some feedback, because you have so muck knowledge in skincare. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 😊
I'm wondering if there is something in the formula that your skin just does not agree with? It is one of the more hydrating retinol formulas I've used. A few acnegenic ingredients (which can also cause pore size to increase) such as Isopropyl Palmitate and dimethicone are higher up on the ingredient list. It could also be something weather or hormone related, or sometimes even something as crazy (and seemingly unrelated) as changing shampoo or conditioners. I think I might stop using the Murad for a month (that is how long a skin cycle is) and see if your pores go back to their normal size, and then it might be worth trying a different retinol. Sunday Riley A+ is a great one because it isn't quite as strong but it does contain HPR and retinol, it might be a good way to ease your skin into it.
No BS Beauty Thank you so much. I knew you would be able to figure out some reason for this pore episode of mine. Honestly, I am going to return the Murad. I am not a big fan. I just thought it would be a good retinol to try. I live in Massachusetts, so the weather is getting colder, but this should not be causing a problem. I will just wait a month and just use my Protini at night & then try the Sunday Riley A+. Thank you so much. 💕
You are so welcome- glad to help if I can. You had the right idea by stepping up slowly in your retinol use. I think after the Ordinary Granactive Retinoid the Sunday Riley will be a natural step up and it shouldn't mess with your pores as much as the Murad. You'll have to keep me posted on how it goes after you get a change to try it out.
It seems to work well for many people, but not as strong as it could be, especially for people who are acclimated to using a lot of retinoids in their routine.
I’m kinda upset. I just bought all three of their retinol items, the serum, eye cream, and night moisturizer. I haven’t used them yet. Should I take them back? What one do you truly like the best?
The Serum is pretty good overall. It's definitely great for those who are newer to Retinol. The moistuizer is well packaged (airless jar I think), which is so important for Retinol. If it were me I'd probably start using the moistuizer, then once that is finished I'd move onto the serum. The eye cream I think I might return. The Serum and moistuizer are gentle enough that you can use them around the eye area. Just my thoughts on it. Obviously if you try them and find your skin can't handle them then I'd probably return them, a lot of people love this line so maybe you'll end up loving them.
I currently use Differin, which is a is an over the countertop Retinoid in the US. I've had great luck with it, great for prevention of breakouts and also helps with fine lines. Looks it so much!
No BS Beauty a totally different subject. I need a new hydrating night time oil. What is your favorite? I need a anti aging, for dry skin, but no Retinol oil.
Hi Sarah, my question is, my grandson who is 16 and wears a darn baseball cap all the time has pimples on his forehead (of course) but not acne...would this be ok for him to use on his forehead nightly or how often? He wont stop wearing his cap unfortunately but was trying to find something for him to use at night. What are your thoughts
This would definitely be a good option for him. The other one that might be worth checking out is Differin- it's pretty gentle but can do a great job preventing and treating breakouts. I think either one would really help with the breakouts, might be worth trying the Differin, and if that doesn't do the trick trying the Murad.
Excellent review! This would be nice for someone starting out. I’ve actually never tried it. I’m still happy with my Curology. I’m still tolerating the 0.05% Tretinoin well and am thinking about bumping it up soon:)) Ohhh, one of your goodies came in the mail today😉😁. Thanks, loveee🍃🌸
😘😘😘 I still think I want to try Curology- sounds like you've had really good luck with it. In one of my beauty boxes I got the Curology Cleanser and I really like it- it's very gentle but it does a great job removing makeup at the same time.
I've got the neck and décolleté cream in the same line. But it irritates my skin. As a 4 x week 0.1% tret user I think it's the fragrance as the tret is OK even on my neck as I've built it up over years and years. I'm going to use it up on my hands! Given the whole line is a Dr brand, I don't rate their products. Other than the aha bha cleanser. I've tried a good range of different products from the brand and won't buy anything else. And it's expensive for what it is IMHO 🤔
I agree with you 100% it's overrated for the price, especially when many of their products are peppered with fragrance and other problematic ingredients. I'm guessing it's the Fragrance. Definitely use it up on your hands or arms. Too expensive to waste.
This was one review I had been meaning to do for quite some time but I just couldn't make up my mind on it- it's a great retinol, and not overly drying at all. Definitely a winner in my opinion!
you just never know until you try it, I wonder if it was the fragrance ingredients or something else? Have you had better luck with other retinol products?
@@Btree33 I used it wrong, clearly. I used it daily and I’m not too fond on sunscreen. Better for you to use it at night every other night and let your skin get used to it if you do try it, hope that helps.
