    This is a great grey! I thought I had heard all her videos, but this is a new one to me. Glad I found it. Also, I have 2 greys, both treated, fed, handled and loved the same. One is a plucker, and one doesn't pluck at all. So....who knows; they are complex birds.

    how do they do that ! they not only mimic what people have said but they even sound like the person that taught them. so incredibly beautiful and intelligent. I guess its a skill they use in the wild to avoid predators, just sound like another predator and it will go away =] I love parrots.

    As others have said, it's quite unique to hear such clear speech in one of these videos. I was beginning to feel that MY African Grey was more special because I felt mine spoke clearer than most I've watched. So while I now feel I have company I can also say that this little guy easily beats mine. What a joy :-)

    Great video, and amazing bird, and of course the plucking wasn't from abuse. The African Gray would never speak this well if had been abused, It's a mentality that most birds have, but is very dominant in this particular species.

    "frankly scarlet ..Idon't give a damn!" love it my mom inherited one from a man who was in her words a "crochety" old man and he says all kinds of nifty not so nice words and phrases but i think my favorite two things he does is when he counts to four then starts sining "row row row your boat" and always gets every one sining it just to hear it again

    Sylvia is adoreable!! What a great vocabulary and her enunciation is impeccable. We love Sylvia. Check out Tobie's videos. (don't tell anyone but he won't let his flight feathers grow out. There has never been a happier bird than Tobie. - Don't know why he does it). So sorry to hear that you lost Sylvia. Flying to freedom is a nice way to put it. Sorry for your loss.

    Agreed Fliing! Some birds just pluck like a person bites there nails, once started its a hard habit to break and is unexplainable in most cases. It does not mean you did something or anything wrong, its just in the bird to do it and unfortunately "they" will not tell us why. I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Sylvia, she is so smart and funny and she will be missed!

    Goes to show you gotta be careful what you say around these birds...LOL

  • @reckz420
    @reckz420 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    plucking in parrots is usually related to being neglected by the owner, not giving company and leaving the bird alone in cage with nobody around for longer period of times. Parrots go into depression in such conditions and inflict injuries on themselves by plucking their feathers all the way.

    @yabyab yes, they do memorize 'sentences' -- although we haven't heard more than 4 words at a time. this one here is probably real--they wouldn't have bothered to edit together several clips if they were faking it. also, you can see the throat moving as it talks.
    ours will do "Bobo go bicycle", "I love you, Bobo", "Bobo roll over", "Bobo good girl", etc.
    search youtube for talking greys and you will find several that do sentences--that is...3 or 4 word sentences.

    My birds are cleaned out every two days and it takes close to three hrs just to clean out there cages that is not including the time it takes to prepare all the fresh fruit and vegatbles plus change around toys ect. Then on top of that they need quality time on the play stands outside the cage through the day. So they are alot of responciblity and care. I would suggest you either find a very good reputable avain vet or a bird behavorial specialist.

    Your bird is amazing and I love your vids so don't take this the wrong way but...
    Looks like he chews his feathers a little? Anyway, it also looks like there is hardly anything to do in that cage. You might add more toys and things for him to play with, and more perches too?
