Great video! Instructions were very clear and precise! Just spent the afternoon playing with my sister in law while it was raining outside. Thank you very much.
Thanks Michele for playing with Adin for his first ever Siamese MJ. I am going to send you videos for him to learn strategies for regular as well. He loves the game. I already showed him how he can practice on his own. Thanks for all your wisdom. Deb and Adin
I love Siamese Mah Jongg and have been playing for 2 years. I learned that once someone declares MJ, then the second player has to get both MJ to score. If the second player get both at same time then score is doubled. If second player only gets one MJ then she gets no score. Is this just a house rule.
Michelle, Do you have to expose the first Mahjong or can you wait and expose two together? What is the rule? In addition, where do you purchase the double rack for Siamese? Thanks!
A player can wait to declare mah jongg for one of their hands because if they declare mah jongg for both hands, the value for both hands is doubled! Un-declared mah jonggs have no value so the challenge is that the other player could be doing the same thing :}
Tried playing this Siamese game and all we do is sabotage each other’s game, we are always aiming for the same suits or numbers, at times even jokers don’t help, worst when you can’t use for pairs, we’ve had to make up our own rules to make it fair...does any one have the same issues? Help
Great videos Michelle they are so helpful for this beginner! I noticed that in this game you are not necessarily drawing specifically for 1 rack but you are interchanging tiles between the two racks. In another video on solo Siamese you appear to use your draws just for one rack then the other. Is that because you are playing as if you were playing against another player? Thank!
Michelle on the Siamese mahjongg card second hand in the kitty run there are2runs 456 2 suits can you claim a discarded tile to complete the runs or can it only be done to mahjongg
No, the tiles in your racks can be placed anywhere at any time so you can change your mind a rearrange at will. The exposures must remain where placed.
Do you have to use the little cards with the hands on them? Thats the part thats confusing me the most with saimese mahjong. Can I not just play it with the standard mahjong hands? Or is the little card required?
Did not see jokers or cards Are you playing it traditional style Just learning the game We play traditional MAH Jong not American style Video very informative but would be better if view of the tiles were shown directly rather than obliquely Also would be interested to see your opponents hand and play from a more 90 degree view Impressed with the video and have picked up some of the rules Never saw Bonus tiles been exposed and displayed on the rack I want to do something like this to teach MAH Jong so I’ve learnt a lot from you Thank you

I'm sorry you had a hard time seeing the tiles. This particular video is more about the mechanics... setup, game progression, and scoring. The exercise videos go into decision making so they are closer to the tiles. Here are the links to the playlists: Siamese Sprints > Quicken decision making at the onset goo.gl/sM4D8q Siamese Force > Practice playing for a prize or play categories you avoid goo.gl/hd9Z3E Siamese Random Pulls > Practice decision making at the onset goo.gl/hvjsqh Siamese Solitaire > Practice decision making through a mock game goo.gl/xfHkTc
Ginger anklin this video was strictly to show how to set up the game, dealing the tiles, picks, exposures, and scoring. Tile-level commentary is done in Siamese Random Pulls, Siamese Force, and Siamese Sprints. This video was made when the 2017 card was in use.
Interesting. I normally play a 4 handed game with an Asian version of rules and scoring. I think any version of rules could be applied to this, depending on what you're used to as far rules go. Have you tried not combining the 2 sets of tiles from start-up and playing as if each set of tiles was 1 person, taking it in turns with Karen, sort of pretending there's 4 people? Is Karen single? Did I say that out loud?
I have played as you describe. This particular version was created for 2 players, playing 2 hands each. This way, the concealed tiles are interchangeable between hands and there is special scoring for wins.
You can play 2-player mahjong with any version. There are modifications that should be made to the standard rules though. Here are the rules for American Mah Jongg using the NMJL card: www.siamesemahjongg.com/
I just read the rules and everything- sucked the life out of me, Lol-!!! It seems odd that in a game called Mahjong, doing a “Charleston” .... and not a Shanghai sounds funny- it’s like going into a Chinese restaurant and saying, “yeah- lemme get a pulled bbq pork sammich and a sweet tea”, lol-!!! As it happens, the cards are required for tournaments & not my table at home- at home it keeps the games interesting, hand combinations change, etc. so- for new people like me, it’s not a requirement. Maybe one day- just not today. I’m curious though- in this style of play can you “chow”, “pong”, and “Kong”? I see people picking up discards but not indicating that they have triplets, a run of 3, or 4 of a kind- and the discards picked up weren’t used immediately. I’ve been playing a mahjong game via an app on my phone and that’s how it works- I didn’t see that in this game though-
We played Siamese mah jongg today based on your helpful video but didn't know how to handle closed hands-I We ended up just playing all hands on the card as 'regular' hands.
I see... the hands are play the same as you would in a normal game. If the hand is concealed, you have to draw all the tiles needed until it's one tile away from winning then if the tile is discarded, you can declare mah jongg. Or, you can hold it and declare double-mah jongg with the second hand.
Karen’s wall came out first, then your wall. Why did your second wall come out third instead of Karen’s? I’ve been doing it wrong I guess until my friend corrected me.
6:35....I love that dismissive flick on the discard! LOL. Thanks for the video Michele!
What a great presentation. Thank you! Impressive that you have memorized the card.
Glad you enjoyed it!
During this pandemic and isolation, we play Siamese all the time! Thank you for your wonderful teaching and please stay safe and healthy!
My pleasure - I'm so happy to hear you are playing :)

That warms my heart! What a blessing that you have your sister to play with :)
You are the best MJJ teacher on TH-cam.
Thx for getting back to me Michele. I immediately went to one of your other videos and could see everything perfectly...
Thanks a lot for the demo. I want to try this soon.
Thanks. We are going to try it this week.
wher can one find a place to practice playing Siameze Mah Jongg

Why declare one Manning and not wait for second to declare?
How many jokers and flowers are used

What happens when someone calls MJ and it’s incorrect. Are there any penalties or is the hand just considered dead and you move on.

Those are not identical tiles so unless it’s mah jongg you can’t claim a discard or use a joker for 456.
Michele, do you have to have 13 tiles on each rack at all times?
No, the tiles in your racks can be placed anywhere at any time so you can change your mind a rearrange at will. The exposures must remain where placed.
Do you have to use the little cards with the hands on them? Thats the part thats confusing me the most with saimese mahjong. Can I not just play it with the standard mahjong hands? Or is the little card required?

I run Mah Jong SA here in Johannesburg
I can’t see the page link so cannot post the Facebook link here
On Facebook look up Mah Jong SA
There are two other pages called MAH JONG SA and The Mah Jong Association of South Africa
They are both mine but only Mah Jong SA is active
The other two I am closing down due to having to update all three every time so want to kill those two
They show events and results at different times of the clubs existence
Please could you email me at lippy@netactive.co.za for more information and also so I can ask questions on TRADITIONAL SIAMESE MAH JONG
Would like advice on what would be the best way to convert it from American style to Traditional Progressive Mah Jong

When playing Siamese MJ on MahJongg Time- does it still count toward belts? I am trying to earn a black belt.
Siamese mah jongg and Mahjong Time are separate platforms so the ranking is separate.

I don't think it really matters. Some groups don't build walls at all.
