- Relentless rain drenched the northern Philippines, triggering flooding in the capital Manila and landslides in mountainous regions as Typhoon Gaemi intensified the seasonal monsoon.
In the densely populated capital, rescuers were deployed across the city on Wednesday to help evacuate people from low-lying homes after downpours turned streets into rivers.
Government offices were shut and classes suspended, while more than 70 domestic and international flights were cancelled because of the weather.

Most in the phils have home babies, they cant afford hospital visits.
Stop yapping. This is definitely not true of Manila, where there are free midwives centres aside from hospitals. The only places I can imagine the mothers can't go either to midwife or hospital is in distant far-flung provinces which have poor transportation networks. It's not a question really if one can afford it but if transport
Im a filipino. Delivering a baby in public hospital is so cheap. Theyee are still can afford. The only problem is that if you far from the public hospital. Mostly they call a midwife in the community or town.
