I had a 1933 big Flathead I restored it as close to factory as I could. I sold it when I got my first divorce for $8.500.00 in 1984 the same bike sold for $25.000 a few years back. My cousin did the paint and motor rebuild and he knew the bike and saw it at an antique bike sale in Lorain Ohio about 10 years ago. My first bike was a 1941 45ci Sport Solo that got totaled when a guy pulled out in front of me in 1970. I love the Flathead it is a great motors and easy to work on like a big lawn mower. Thanks for sharing Mike.

Hung onto a 36 VLH 80 flatty for lots of years......( not knowing what i really had ) motor only. Just never had time or money....let it go for peanuts 15 years ago. Now retired and building toys wish i had kept it....So this one is gonna make me happy to see. Thanks for showing Mike....😎

I just hope that old motor found a good home. The dollar value is only important at the time of purchase.

My father in 1970 described the motor to me like this ... me being only 10 yrs old .... as two Briggs lawnmower motors cut in half and welded together . I'll remember that forever !

    OMG, what a lovely engine!
I kind of knew that it'll be a Flathead because You already have a Knuckle, Pan and Shovel, also I was hoping that it won't be another Knuckle (just because everyone like went crazy about Knuckles and builds them in dozens).
I'm very happy to see a Flathead, very happy to see You happy and very excited about future videos about this gorgeous engine, frame, wheels and brass parts!
Thank You for everything You do!

Man, I knew it, only motor that lays right in with the knuckle and panhead you have. There were quite a few of those motors and gas tanks floating around a few years ago from guys converting the ULs over to knuckleheads. I have 1946 UL engine, but it's missing the jugs, heads, intake and carb. Going to be great entertainment to watch.

Cool engine. That bike is going to be pretty sweet I'm sure. Looking at your other rides it will be a nice addition to the family of Harley's. There are so many people out there who crack on Harley's and put them down it's annoying. Nothing wrong with Harley's at all in my book. I think it takes a special type of dude to own an old Harley. You have to get your hands dirty and love to tinker with things. I know I'm most happy when I'm working on something, fixing whatever it may be. I'm in my element. When I sold my 01 FLH this cat who came to check it out as soon as he walked up the drive from exiting his vehicle the first words out of his mouth were.... "At least it's not an AMF" .. I just looked at him for a few and said that's exactly why I'm selling this one to get an older machine which Happens to be an AMF. He got quiet and his grin was gone. If you know Harley's then you know the older bikes will leak to a certain extent that's just how they were. My 73 only leaks a bit from the breather tube otherwise my driveway is dry. But the old bikes are or get in your blood. They are works of art is how I look at them. Your new old machine will be your work of art in how you build it. Lots of pride and satisfaction come with your build. It will be cool to see the finished machine later on. I enjoy your vids and watch them frequently. I hope to build a bike before I get too old and decrepit and can't do what I enjoy anymore. Nothing I enjoy more than being In the Wind and listening to my shovel sing that sweet tune going down the road... Anyway I look forward to the rest of your vids. I've never seen a flathead I can dig it... Take care man , be safe in this time we are all in.... Peace brother... ✌️

My UL as per my avatar was the most wonderful machine to ride. I put 1000's of miles on it last year and it never once moaned. I rode it 1300 miles in a weekend to Belgium to a show. Great great engines, lack a little power higher up the RPM, but with a 26 tooth it would no doubt even it out!

Outstanding! I've always wanted a Flathead, had several opportunities over the years and let them slip away. Did a trike for a lady friend of mine back in the 80s. Her dad and I built her a pretty neat 3 wheeler running a WLA motor/tranny. Its the only Flathead I've ever worked on. This is going to be fun to watch come together. Stay safe.

I had a feeling a UL powerplant was going to reside in your new toy. It honestly fits nicely into the existing stable, and the idea of "more torque" through additional cubes seems "quite Mike-like", lol. I'm overjoyed nothing of museum quality status is being used, I'm psyched to see you build a semi-feral road gobbling monster, not some "bike under glass" display piece! Superb, sir! Looking forward to the heaps of edutainment this labor of love will provide we rubbernecking viewers you have so graciously allowed into your shop!

Very good/nice choise! I had,in the early 80-ties a WLA 45` that took me from Sweden to France and back again. Not fast but safe :-)
To use old parts that was not supposed to be on a bobber makes it more personal when there is a story about it.
Now its not a problem for you to stay at home in your garage i guess :-)

It's home. The only thing that would be better, would be a "ROAD TRIP!" Thank You.

Love the way you think about motorcycles Mike. That engine is going to suit you right down to the ground...'laid back and dependable, with a deep, mellow sound that improves with age! All the best to you and thanks for another great video. Regards, Mitch
