This one was great because it proved a deeply bitter Alex Ferguson wrong back in 97 who suggested Dortmund had no chance in the final , even tough they done United home and away !
It was probably because Dortmund had unbelievable luck in both legs in the semi-final vs ManUtd.
The 1st leg in Germany NickyButt hit the post and DavidBeckham had a shot cleared off the line, both at 0-0, either of those go in for an away goal it changes the scenario completely. Dortmund's winner took a big deflection as well so they had big slices of luck at both ends of the pitch to get a very good result (typical for German team's around that time, Germany got away with similar moments against England less than a year earlier in Euro96).
The OldTrafford game Dortmund's goal couldn't have been better timed for them taking into consideration the away goal rule scoring early so the pressure was off them they just had to defend as ManUtd needed 3 goals without reply which was harsh. Cantona had a shot cleared off the line.
Although having said that Juventus also beat ManUtd 1-0 home&away that season (in the group stage) and they too weren't short of luck to get those wins. Ferguson probably just thought because Juventus had won it the previous season they'll win it again.
Funny thing is neither Juventus or Dortmund have won the champions league since 1997.

Just like Bayern is hated in Germany. (Sadly, we in Germany have no consistant big rival like Milan with 18 titles but only a bunch of nice teams that had nothing more than their little (mostly tragic) decade like Cologne (60's), Mönchengladbach (70's), Hamburg (80's), Bremen (80's and 2000's), Kaiserslautern (90's) and Dortmund (90's and 2010's). We had very many different champions, but none of these teams even has 10 titles, while Bayern has 27 now... and I say tragic because most of these teams narrowly lost to Bayern so often. Bayern could easily have less than 20 championships but no, they almost always had the luck on the last matchday...
