    I lived in Sebring from 2005 to 2007. At the time, the mall was thriving. I haven’t been back in 14 years. I’m sorry to see it in this condition, but at least the theater is still open.

    • @AnthACD
      @AnthACD หลายเดือนก่อน

      Theater has been updated. It is nice, I don't go to the theaters often.
      We just moved here couple of years ago and wife lived in Sebring for a long time.
      It is growing despite the way the mall is.. though not many Malls are doing well. I can think of two malls in Buffalo, NY doing well. All the rest of the malls nearly dead or dead already.

    Its sad to see what has come for that mall. I remember going there as a little kid and where that brick wall is used to be a big Kmart that they are turning into some storage unit place. Also that one empty area with the green pillars next to the old kmart was once an arcade called gametime. They closed down around 2018-2019 i think. And the kmart shut down around mid 2017. It hits hard every time i go back to that mall because i know it will never be the same. Nostalgia hits most when i see the empty arcade and the outside of the now gone kmart. 😢

      OMG yes I forgot about the GameTime. And next door to it was the knock off Dollar Store. Sad to see this mall now. I haven't been home since 2004, when I moved it was such a busy mall. We all hung out there as kids.

    This is my childhood mall. My mom still owns Totally Scrubs Uniforms behind the mall. This hurts my heart to see it now. All of us High School kids hung out here at night and on the weekends. It use to be so full of life, packed! Every location was full, kids, parents etc. Was such a great place when it opened in 1992. How times have changed. Next door to the dental office use to be Alan Jay which was a car dealership, it was a mall showroom for the dealership which was on US 27 at the entrance to the mall. Next door to that was a shoe store at one point and then was KB Toys which I use to work at. Outside of JC Penny was Regis Hair Salon. Next door to GNC when the mall opened was Hibbetts Sports, they sold sporting stuff, clothes etc., I worked there as well when I was 17 years old. Now at 43 years old its shocking to see it now. When I moved away from Sebring in 2004 this mall was still very much busy. Some stores was closed up, but for the most part it was very busy. Thank you for the video. I haven't been back to Sebring since I moved, and this really took me down memory lane.

    I've lived in the area for my whole life and I can tell you a good chunk of what the stores used to be. @ 0:12 that was a massage parlor for awhile but it closed down. @ 0:23 that was a Claire's. @ 0:52 the store y'all pointed at was a Hallmark store. @ 1:03 there was briefly an arcade in there but it didn't last long (If I remember correctly the owner or a close relative passed away). @ 1:18 you can see what used to be an FYE store, later it became a "Chinese dollar store" and eventually became a bin store selling mostly Amazon returns and goods like that. @ 1:22 the store on the right was used by the local model train club, then it became a bounce house playground owned by the same person that owned the previously mentioned arcade (Closed for the same reason). @ 1:31 the store on the right used to be a Radio Shack. On the left that store was C&C Market Research, they still operate in the mall still near the Bean Armory gun store you mentioned. @ 1:41 The green store used to be the Game Time arcade, then it became a bin store. On the left that store used to be a branch of the Alan Jay automotive network. They used to sell new and gently used cars out of that space. I remember as a kid walking down that part of the mall and seeing cars and vans parked in the hall on display (My parents funnily enough bought a used Pontiac Bonneville at that store. Straight ahead where the bricks are, used to be Kmart. @ 4:25 there was a jewelry store there once, then it became a computer repair shop, and most recently it was a tobacco shop. The Planet Fitness used to be a restaurant and a bunch of other stores as well that got consolidated into one space. Bean Armory's location oddly enough used to be an "underage" "kid friendly" club (It wasn't there for long). I hope this information is somewhat useful to someone.

    The owners of the mall refuse to lower rents for the most part, so a lot of businesses left. Near the sealed up Kmart, used to be an Arcade that was popular.

    I grew up going to this mall. It makes me so sad to see it like this. It used to be so great back in the 90s and early 2000s.

  • @coled5090
    @coled5090 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Most all the original anchors in this mall, Kmart, JCPenney, Bealls and Sears weren’t new to the town of Sebring and just relocated from other places.
    Also the part where the salon is used to be a Kirklands.
    The food court was originally Sbarro, A&W, the Chinese place that’s still there, Linda’s Yogurt, and Barnie’s Coffee. The Barnie’s was Starbucks for a while, then went back to Starbucks. There was also a Subway there for a while next to the Chinese.
    The mall started going evidently downhill around the late 2000s/early 2010s, when the food court anchors got flighty and started shutting down.
    The GNC used to be down near the Footlocker, it moved across from the gym when it opened.
    That sun glass shop closes maybe a year ago.
    The Hibbetts moved to another location a year or two ago.

    The store with green on the outside used to be an arcade. It was a place called bintacular for a while. When I was a teenager we hung out in the mall many Fridays and Saturdays. Its so sad to see the mall in my hometown die like that. Its been said that the owner raising prices of the rent drive stores to close. We also used to have a Kmart and Sears there too. And a couple hair salons. A hallmark store. And a books a million a long time ago.

    I used to do security for this mall, there are some serious secret to why that mall died and mostly due to the staff management.
    There were a lot of brand names stores in there, from Kmart, Arcade, RadioShack, Payless, FYE, RAVE, Hibbert sports, Sears, Bealls, Belk, we had several hair salons too, there was never a Disney store in there, the Costal dental are the same owners who own the nail salon in Walmart, the gun store is new, and the Planet Fitness tore down a lot of former stores like GNC, KAYS JEWLERS, we also had BedBathNBeyond, we had Alan Jay's Automotive, Claire's, Foot Locker, and so so much more.
    The Yep program was the beginning of the decline. Then when major brands went bankrupt, it went down worse.
    There was also a pretzle place, a pizza place... so many more

    I remember when my parents moving down to Inverness Florida from New York in 1999. Their entire area ten years before pretty much didn’t exist. All the greatest generation and silent generation were retiring there. Everything seemed brand new but there wasn’t a thriving industry. The whole economy was for the retirees. They’d build these malls and no one went there. There was one very unique mall with a canvas like circus top. Crystall River Mall? Sears, JC Pennies and a Belks. Smallest anchors I ever saw. No one ever went there. You’d get some retirees doing mall walks because it’s too hot outside. Almost no young people. Its’s now closed.

    Rent was off the charts. Plus the online shopping made rural malls obsolete.
    No real shoppers just window shoppers.
    No real good stores. Vitamin shops,wheelchair repair,chinese goods,watch repair,shoe repair.

    Century Three is in the process of being demolished. I'd only been in it maybe twice. Lakeshore Mall is so sad now. I remember going there and it being full of people. Poor management is partly to blame. Heard the owner jacked up the rent so high no one could afford it.

      My mom owns Totally Scrubs Uniforms behind the mall. I can tell you they can't get anyone in there because the owner of the mall wants WAY to much for rent on the spaces and refused to come down on the prices. Mom pays $1100 a month for her spot behind the mall, and a spot in the mall they want $4000 - $6000 a month. It isn't worth it to any business to go into the dead mall.
