BREEDING IO MOTHS GETTING FERTILE EGGS IN CAPTIVITY

  • We are breeding io moths from the Florida Keys. I found a female at the Publix shopping center in Key Largo and she gave me a bunch of eggs. Now, the adults are emerging from that brood and I would like for the colony to go through another generation or two. How do I get them to mate and lay eggs in captivity? This video will show you how.

    Hi David looks like Automeris to lilith am I close? About 38 years ago I collected some at Burger King on Key Largo Monroe county I think that is still there. Absolutely beautiful moth no doubt.😊

      They eat many things. I’m feeding these red bay and swamp bay

    Rearing caterpillars is one thing but breeding is a whole other ball game! Well done David! Those eyeo's are beautiful!

    i feel like if you bread a few ten thousand of these in captivity and let them all free, you could probably really mess up an ecosystem nearby lol

      Not really. Parasitic wasps and flies mess them up!!!
