Hello everyone. This was my fishing trip in mid-February 2024 to San Pablo Reservoir. This was a really fun trip as I was able to catch my first lightening trout, and meet some new fishermen. Overall this fishing trip was really fun, and I hope to go out fishing more this year at San Pablo. Enjoy!
Well I finally ended my skunk streak! Had a small bite 5 min into the day, hour later had a second bite, it jumped it was a lightning, fought it for a few min and it snapped my 6lb line. Was going to pack it up at 11:30, but I used my portable sonar and it showed fish top, middle on the bottom, so I stayed, 15 min later had a hard hit, made sure drag was loose so not to lose it, was a 18 in lighting 3 lbs! Ran into one of those guys you fished with that day we were next to each other, his name is PJ, he had a 23 in 5lb rainbow on his striger.
That is great to hear you caught a lightening trout. That is great that you had a portable sonar to use for fishing. That makes it easier to see if the fish are around. That is cool that you ran into PJ. Sounds like he has been having luck fishing at that the same spot as last time fishing.
@@Yeeflex Yeah I was planning maybe this week, but I saw it's a full moon now, so I don't think so. Probably when the full moon is done in first part of April I'll go, PJ recommended a leader of a minimum of2 ft, so I'll make some up longer than that, 3 & 4 ft, maybe use a size 4 treble hook like said he uses.
Was this on Feb 16th? I saw guys bbq there, I was to the left of the group of guys. This is the area I fish. I was there opening day, rained off/on in the morning, but this area was packed and everyone was catching. I got two hits in 4.5 hrs, got them both, a 13 and 15 incher. Think they were DFG plants. Saw boats launch and come back in 3 hrs , guess they got their limit. Went 2 more times, not a single hit, only 1 or two caught with only 4-5 people in that spot. The last 2 times, all boats launched headed towards the dam area, only a few went across from this spot.
The day I went fishing was on Feb 16th I believe. Ah okay. I remember seeing a small group to the left of us. I was one of the guys in that group that day. That is great to know this is the area you fish. I didn't realize that the opening weekend was a good tie of fishing. I heard the rain has made the fishing tougher there, since the water is stirred up. Thanks for sharing the fishing report in San Pablo. Also thanks again for the comment.
@@Yeeflex Cool we were there right next to each other that day but didn't know it. That area usually produces, but not lately. I went back same area on 2/28 and 3/7 spent 5 hrs each time, not a bite. Each time I saw only 2 caught. Must have been the full moon . I'm going to give it another shot this coming week, either Wed, Thurs, Fri when the weather warms up a bit.
@@simba9725 Exactly. Who knew we were fishing in the same place, and not knowing it. Good to know that the boat launch area does have people catching fish every once in awhile. The full moon does have an effect on the fish feeding. Sounds good for your next fishing trip. Hope you catch some fish.
@@simba9725We stayed that day until about 2:30pm-3:00pm if I remember correctly. We stayed a good amount of time that day. What time did you leave at on that Friday?

Nice. what kind of tackle did you use?
I used Rainbow Powerbait with 8lb test and a size 8 - size 10 hook.

@@Yeeflex Yeah PJ showed pictures of the ones caught, he catches a lot. Maybe one day we'll be there at the same time!

@@simba9725 Sounds good for when you will go out fishing again. I hope that rigging setup works for you. If it is working for PJ, then that helps.
