Thanks so much for the great tips , especially on the options for bar cords . Being a bit dyslexic I always find ways to get the same sounding cord with the least fingers as I do on my guitar. I’ve had my Hora from Romania Octave for 2 weeks now and loving it . Teaching myself the My Girl song ( not sure if it’s supposed to be in G but I’m having musical fun. Again thanks for your time sharing for us other folk your music = God Bless Ya Young Lady 🙏🏽😊🇦🇺

I don't know how different the mandolin is from the guitar, but I know that changing the positions of my shoulders, arms and hands really relieved the tension in my muscles, and I felt an improvement in my technique. This is often overlooked but it is extremely important. Of course, when we are talking about practicing for many hours.

Every time i see you have posted an Octave Mandolin video, everything STOPS.... Im trying to add chord playing to my music. I love the sound of open chords. Thank you for your time with the videos 🎶

A fun "rabbit hole" to go down is the use of partial capos on the octave. You can modify some guitar capo designs to only stop one, two or three courses. "The Big Book of Octave Mandolin Chords" by Harvey Reid not only has about 2,000 fingerings for OM chords in standard tuning, but also sections with fingerings for 11 different partial capo configurations. The reason I call it a rabbit hole is you can really get lost in all those possibilities and realize you haven't been practicing your regular stuff!

Woah I’ve never heard of this technique! I can definitely see how that would lead you down a long and fun rabbit hole😆 That would open up a whole new world of possibilities for chords!
