Her family are leaches 😕😕... Mariah tried to help her sister when she became famous, by paying for her sister's rehab, putting her nephew through law school, etc, but Allison can't stay clean and she continues to drag her down.

I love lots of Mariah’s music but this right here has given me a tremendous level of respect for Mariah. Just because someone is financially well off does not mean she needs to bend over backward to help family that have mistreated her like hers has done her. @@dejalations I understand being upset about people weaponizing mental health. I had a former roommate use my mental health issues as a way to make himself look better. He was an absolutely terrible person and he went to our mutual friends and just started calling me a "crazy bitch". I have my moments where I'm a bit manic, but I never lose myself. The worst thing I've ever done while manic is buy things. But I wouldn't label myself as crazy. He was just so instant that he felt threatened and scared for his safety when around me even though I never once threatened him. What makes it all worse is that people believed him. They heard I was bipolar and just assumed that my ex-roommate was right. The whole thing was horrendous.

This actually makes Tommy Mottola look even more predatory than just the age gap alone. Mariah was from a dysfunctional family, had no idea what a healthy, loving relationship looked like, was an outcast all her life prior and then comes this powerful man to abuse the shit out of her, locking her up, follow strict rules of how she's dressing etc. I feel so bad for her for going through this much trauma and hopefully she's healing.

I will never understand why older sibling hold a grudge to their younger siblings because of their parents mistake. I am an older sister and my teenage years were a bit difficult because at the time my parents were divorcing and I was the one taking care of my younger sister (we are 9 years apart) at the time my mom had a breakdown and then she started to go out with friends like she was the teenager and not me. And who was taking care of my sister? Me! I couldn’t go out with my friends or do normal teenage stuff and I feel like I missed some experience bcs of this and 10 years later still hurts. But I will never be mad at my sister for this. She was just a little girl and she shouldn’t be paying for my parents mistakes. We have a lovely relationship and I see her as my sister / daughter.

    2) Having read the book, Mariah Carey's story is so incredible. As Oprah pointed out in that sit-down interview, Mariah is someone who could've easily been "invisible" in life and never become famous, let alone successful. She broke the odds and statistics not only by making it out of a very broken home, but also experiencing a meteoric, unprecedented rise in the music industry as an incredible vocalist & pop songwriter, breaking records left and right. She’s lucky her sister is Mariah Carey or the media wouldn’t even be concerned about her rough life. Very sad story but also sucks to put all of the blame on Mariah because the family is jealous of her success. Everyone makes their own choices in life. Mariah is one of the best singers in history, she deserves her commercial success.

Alfred was an Engineer. Pat was a Julliard graduate. They were capable of supporting their daughter, at least emotionally. They were intelligent people. Why was Alison emotionally abandoned as a child?

Mariah had to come up on her own.

Oml! Just makes me feel closer to Mariah. Thank you for this video!
My mom passed away from COVID last year, she was my best friend, single mom, mom and dad. I’m the youngest of 4, only one that graduated college, come from not the best area of Sacramento and still did everything I have done for my mom. I moved away from my drug addicted siblings when my mom passed away and was granted guardianship of my brothers three kids after my mom. They now feel that I have to take care of them and that they are entitled to having their bills paid for. I have helped my siblings out financially and mentally for years, yet they still think that I’m responsible for paying the bills. Smh.
Thank you. Makes me feel like I’m not crazy for not wanting a relationship with my siblings either. It’s not always about family or blood or the history you have. As grown adults we make our choices and if they choose wrong- sorry, not my problem. I’ve tried. No one listens. I’m tired. Mariah is tired too. I do not blame her at all!

it's pretty sad how her parents didn't even tell her older brother and sister to not be jealous of her. it sad that the role the parents played on her. growing up my parents have told me (and my mom told this to my brother my older brother and sister) that if my brother and sister are successful with whatever they want to do with lives I should be happy for them. and they should be happy for me. and I think that should be for every parent though don't just favor one kid over the other one because that's where the jealousy will begin. a jealousy that could be so strong that it could lead to them killing each other. I think every parent should love their children the same way. I was lucky enough that my parents pretty much have taught me and my siblings to love one another and not be jealous of one another's success. my mom even did say that if my sister was the first one to become successful I shouldn't be jealous of that because my success will come one day too and she was right because my success came .too.

mariah's family isn't "normal". i also come from a "not normal" family and things aren't done rationally. there's narcissism, neglect and abuse involved, and the parent's traits are often passed on to the children. some children are able to recognize this and put an end to the chain, and it's usually the younger children, such as mariah. it's not plain jealousy the siblings feel but a pattern of conduct they absorbed from their parents; basically, destroying the person you're supposed to love and care for. the parents were destructive, it's not natural for them to protect their children or to care for the relationship between them, and the only way of living they know is chaos. it's way too convoluted.

Why can't people just tell everyone to go ask that person themselves & if they don't want to talk about it leave them tf alone. I've been a fan since her debut came out when I was 8. I'm 40. I have every album in multiple formats, read her book, etc. I think something truly went on with the way Pat Carey raised her children. Pat comes across as extremely intelligent; she's well educated, and I feel was more than capable of guiding her biracial children. I'm not saying it was an easy task; it was the 60's-70's. But why didn't Pat involve Alfred, a NASA Engineer, more? Why didn't they ever have Christmas gifts? It doesn't seem that there were conversations about this. In Mariah's memoir, she mentions how Pat dropped off Mariah and a white friend at Alfred's house. The white friend was scared of Alfred, who was a tall, black man. Pat almost seemed to ANTICIPATE this, as she waited in her car, saw the little girl panic upon seeing Alfred, and immediately went to comfort the young girl and take her home. She never discussed with Mariah WHY the girl may be scared or attempt to smooth anything over. Why didn't Pat discuss beforehand that Mariah's father was black and attempt to prepare the young girl? Pat also made a comment in front of Mariah and Mariah's nephew while they were out to eat to the server that she wanted her coffee "Black, like my men." I think the relationship between Pat and Alfred was so highly dysfunctional that it added a layer of trauma to their kids BEYOND the racism they had to endure. It didn't have to be that way.

    • @jbjjbb
      @jbjjbb ปีที่แล้ว +7

I agree. Mariah used to say how her dad would just say "the album" all the time as if she only had one album, but when he was dying she found out he knew a lot more. It seemed he thought she would get egotistical. When Mariah was younger, it sounds like Pat might be a narcissist who wanted the kids and others to make her look like the savior and good guy. I've been a lamb since the start, but I can admit that Mariah definitely has strong narcissistic traits that she probably learned from her mom and dad, but I don't think she's a mid level or ultra level narcissist because she has emotional empathy. Low-range like a lot of people who still are empathetic. Pat is probably a mid-range narc like a lot of entertainers. She even said she named Mariah with a stage name - it's pretty narc behavior - the children are extensions of their narc minds like accessories.

As a 1st Gen mixed Polynesian, Asian, European, Latina, who’s the only one in the family who actually looks it, i totally understand the hatred from family for being born different. I was the only one who was born with green asian eyes and red hair and olive skin. Whereas my family all have naturally dark skin and black hair (which imo they all look gorgeous) but I don’t know if that’s the reason they started a collective hatred towards me since i was 3yrs old but it’s just gotten worse and worse as time goes by. So i definitely understand Mariah’s experience. I’ve experienced absolute physical, mental and emotional abuse from my entire family of 7 except for my little sister. My older brother has literally murdered my dog, he’s consistently an offending pedophile, he’s been in gang stabbings, he used to torture me as a toddler using sharp objects to rip out my flesh. My mothers tried to poison me many times, she’s sabotaged me, abused me my whole life, is besties with my molester. It’s crazy that this family genuinely believe I’m this terrible person and I’m psychotically ill for standing up for myself by going no contact. While they genuinely believe they’re all perfect Christians and that I’m demonically possessed for being upset with their abuse😐. Mariah Carey has been one of my biggest inspirations solely for her perseverance through this similar issue and I’m so proud of her for her strength to create her own discovery of what feeling worthy to exist is for her.

Thanks so much for covering this!! ❤ wow her and Mariah looked so much alike when they were around the same ages and even sounded alike, just goes to shows your choices really define you, and sometimes just pure luck and circumstance, but that’s NO reason not to love your sibling. I never knew much about this feud, but now I know so much more thank you Sloan, so crazy.
Ps. All of the begging by thr brother and sister is over the TOP!!!!

It be your own, smh. Mariah isn't wrong for not being in their lives. Family isn't always everything, not sorry. Brit is a perfect example.

It seems like Mariahs siblings are both jealous and entitled. Sounds like she's tried to help them, and they've been terrible to her. How sad!!

What’s sad is they’re her older siblings, they’re the ones that are supposed to be taking care of her 🥺 not the other way around.
They’re trying to guilt trip Mariah, when they don’t deserve her.

I had to cut my mother and grandmother because the relationship was toxic. She had been abusing me my entire life and finally I had to pull the plug and do it. My life is much less stressful now that I’m not on that emotional roller coaster any more. I just couldn’t take it any more. So I can completely understand where Mariah is coming from. She doesn’t owe them anything
