    私の育ての親が、当時ボーナス8万円で中古で買って宮城まで乗って来たのを、覚えていますね。当時は、車など乗って居る人はまばらでしたね。いやー懐かしい思い出ですね。大事にしてくださいませ。

I worked on those inboard drum front brakes! (They) used aluminum wheel cylinders which wore out badly. The worst feature of the front end was the pressed wheel bearings that were hard to service when/if they needed it. Even my local dealer messed things up and I had to go buy two assembled hubs at a yard on my own dime too! a great car that delivered fantastic fuel mileage of 40MPG and above. In the mid 70s I could drive from California to S. Florida for $50 in gas! It looked good with slightly bigger, taller tires on it. The mufflers rusted out quickly as they seldom heated up much so i poured an oil paint into a new one before i installed which lasted a LOT longer! Was said to be a 1970 model but looked exactly like this 1968! I had the car more than 13 yrs.

Thank you for your comment. It was a nightmare for mechanic and that is a part of reason, dealers preferred to sell Toyota Corolla or Datsun Sunny (B10), thus Subaru had to wait 20 years to gain meaningful share in Japanese new car market. But as a driver, I love this car. As you mentioned, good gas millage, sporty and unique handling, light body makes driving fun!

Thanks for posting I really do like the unique styling of FF-1, Subaru still managed to keep the styling profile right up to the 2nd gen Leone, I note with the way the trunk angles down at the rear just like FF-1

Totally agree, up the 2nd gen Leone, Subaru kept design concept of sloping down rear end. I like 2nd Gen Leone best.

Thanks for posting.I still remember the day when my late father took me to the Subaru agent ( In Malta) to pick up the new FF1. The design was ahead of its time. Ours was a floor gear shift model. It was around 1971 or 72. I remember Father saying that it was very economical and fast for a 1000cc. Also flat 4s' have plenty of torque, low center of gravity, and allow for a ''chisel front'' aerodynamic front design. ( as was done in the 1980 Subaru 13 DL (known as Leone in europe.) After 8 yrs of ownership we part exchanged it with a 1300cc delux.(Leone) again it was in a class of its own. Thanks again. and Keep on posting.

Thank you very much for your comment with nice episode. It is good to hear that Subaru's challenge in early days were welcomed people from all over the world with good taste, like your father. (So far my dad did not have that......) I am also keeping Leone Swingback on the road. th-cam.com/video/FIfiEg3K5rg/w-d-xo.html

Thanks for posting, an engineer's car, drum brake look like a Swiss watch, usually a 20 mins job on other Japanese car in that era, but you have double satisfaction to repair an old Subaru. In my mind triple satisfaction.

@@ClassicCarParadiseNZ Actually I do need help. It's very rusty and can't find any drum brake cylinders. One or more failed in 1992 and since then we haven't found... Do you know any parts numbers or if I can fit from another car, like a Datsun?

@@tasospappas6627 My old parts book list front drum wheel cylinder assy for Sedan as F/RH 6252 00000, F/LH 00010, Rear 6252 00020, 6252 00110. How bad is your cylinder, pistons, and rubber parts? Rubber parts are often sold on auction.

@@ClassicCarParadiseNZ I have no idea about the piston and rubber parts. I still havn't tried to put brake fluid in it. The only thing done is that I got it running. Now I'm about to install a new fuel pump.

I found it was easier to pull the fibre-board transmission tunnel inside the car. The parking brake system pulley's and cables are inside that tunnel and were disconnected in the car. I pulled the parking brake cables out with with the entire brake mounting plate. Very easy to remove the cables from the assembly in a vise.

Very nice. That car has some very unconventional features. I would say that is in part because of the airplane manufacturing background of Subaru. Kind of similar to Saab from Sweden.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing when I was looking Saab 96 Monte Carlo 850 last Sunday at car show. The owner told me that it is faster than Subaru 1000, as it comes with 3 cylinder 2-stroke engine. Thank you for your comment!
