I did book the ticket through a third party site, trip.com, but even after going directly to the Capital Airlines site I could still not book a seat. I emailed and was told to get it sorted at the airport

For Australian citizen enter to China no need apply Chinese visa for enter to China everytime stay in China for 30 days visa free.
