This is BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait to try turning bended resin into LED lamps... these are as beautiful as glass blowing but much easier for artists at home. Wonderful idea!
Thank you so much for testing this out and sharing with us. This is so pretty. I purchased 2 silicone bake pans last year that look like the mat you used. Never used them cause I didn't trust them for baking. Now thanks to you I can get started on this project straight away. ♡
Oh now.... This is just absolutely lovely***** this looks so fun and I can't wait to try. You had a wonderful idea there. When I do try, I will give you credit in my video and tell everyone I learnt this from you and send people to your channel. Thank you so much for sharing this project and im hoping to try next week. I can't get out the house this week to buy more supplies and my resin won't cure well anyway cuz it's 15 below zero where I live. I await a warmer day. Like at least 5 degrees! Lol
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I hop it warms up for you soon. We have the opposite temperatures going on. Once it hits 40 degrees C, it is too hot to resin. It cures too fast.
This is my second favorite piece that you have done so far, I've watched every one of your videos because you come up with such interesting ideas and they're so beautiful! Thank you.
I let the resin cure on the sticks and in the cups and simply reuse them. As for the bottle brush, I let the resin cure and then pick it off. Well my daughter does, she says she finds it very satisfying 😍
I would sand the back and use a foam roller to apply a very thin layer. I would go back and check on it every 10 mins to make sure it is coated. As it is the back of the piece I am not looking for perfection. I didn’t end up coating the back and left it as it was.
I have two of the large mats in stock. I am finding it hard to get more, so don't know when I will be getting more. 💕 suefindlaydesigns.com.au/art-shop/art-supplies/resin-accessories/silicone-pet-feeding-mat-matte-finish/
This is fairly close to what I will need to do for the project I'm working on. I am building a TARDIS DVD cabinet, and though I have a fresnel lens set for the top light, it's considerably larger around than I need it to be, with the size of my box. I will need to learn to make a mold of the lens shape, pour a type pf resin that is clear as glass when dry, and then learn to shape it, roll it around to reconnect with itself, into a smaller diameter size fresnel lens, when it's still soft enough to shape, yet not so soft it droops. I fully expect to have a few spectacular fails in the beginning, while I'm learning, but I hope to be successful enough to have my correctly sized fresnel lens light on top soon enough. 😁😎 So, any helpful suggestions from you (or any of the readers here) would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am not really sure what you are trying to achieve. If you want to create a mould of a fresnel lens, then you could use a silicone mould maker, then pour the resin. Good luck with your project 💕
Brilliant Sue... I’ve been wondering where to get a larger silicone tray but haven’t seen any at Kmart as yet. I’ll keep checking 🙂 I’m also wanting to mould resin into different shapes, free formed just a small puddle or like a centimetre wide strip poured onto either waxproof paper or a silicone mat then I’ve found after approx 18 to 20 hours it’s dry enough but still pliable to bend n twist. I’m just not sure how to keep it in the positions that I’m thinking of, like a spiral or whatnot for jewellery designs. I’ll keep researching n see what I can come up with. I enjoy doing small silicone jewellery mould resin and just tried adding alcohol inks this eve but may have added too much, I’ll have to wait til tomorrow arvo to see (unless I sneak a peek & un mould a lil earlier.) Have you experienced making holes thru this “mostly” cured resin to see how it goes? I wonder if a regular paper hole punch would work? There’s your next test...I’d like to make holes in moulds that done already have it part of for hanging up on walls or simply for effect. Sorry....I know I waffle on. 😁
Ha ha, this is a long post. Firstly, Kmart by me does have the larger pet mats. I bought a load and have them for sale on my website. Obviously, they are more expensive buying them from me, as I am covering my costs. I have used the silicone mats to do freeform shapes, I simply line it with cellophane and pour. You can also make your own moulds out of foam board and line them with plastic. As for creating spirals, I would find something to wrap your resin around and hold in place with cello tape. Finally, I have used a Dremel to drill small holes in resin, it is quick and easy. Make sure you wear a dust mask when sanding and drilling resin. 😍
I am Very new to resin and am hooked! My big question here is about using the heat gun and torch. When the work area is covered in plastic sheeting, is there no concern about it melting to your table?? Thx!
I don’t hold it in one spot for too long, you literally run it over the resin to pop the bubbles or move it, if you do it for too long you can burn the resin.
Hi there Sue love watching your videos and how you can take a simple resin pour to new heights ''..Brilliant ....P.s how much resin did you use in the wave shape.
Hello sue, I have just received my silicone mat, a silicone mixing set cups sticks etc and I'm going to take the plunge sometimes today. I got some resin a couple of weeks ago, and because it was si exspensive, I've out of using it.....really glad now as love this. I have a question, how much resin in mils did you mix up at the beginning ? I dont want to mix too much or even not enough Thank you for this upload, so inspiring xx

That is really neat!! Thanks for sharing. Tomorrow morning is my weekly shopping day. I am going to see if I can find that silicone pet mat at my local Walmart. :D - Heidi
@@SueFindlay well no luck at Walmart. They had pet mats but not sure they were silicone and even if they were they had raised designs of dogs and cats so that wouldn't work. *sigh* Guess I will look online. This was a great video!!! How much resin do you put in the mat in the begging? I’m giving this a try when I get my mat in the mail. Thank you for your creative videos!!! ❤️❤️❤️
The mold you’re using is probably the reason the piece came out looking not as clear, the texture of the mold makes an enormous difference on the final look of the piece
Thank you so much!! I am so inspired by you, I am currently using your idea of the foam board mold and I purchased myself a pet food drip mat😁 so excited for the turn out
Always love your videos as they’re made for all skill levels, which is much appreciated. You mentioned you were going to put a coat of clear resin on the backside. How will you apply to prevent dripping off or pooling in the bent parts? Thank you.
Hi Sue, I love all your work and tutorials, you are such an amazing artist and a great inspiration for a newbie like me. I’m going to try this today but have a couple questions. If I listened correctly, once my resin is poured and I’m happy I let it sit for 5 hours Then come back and manipulate it into the wave? Then after 24 hours (I’m guessing) I remove the mold, and trim it if needed....can I do a final resin coat on the back at that time or should I place it back to keep its shape for 7 days then do the final resin coat? Sorry for all the stupid questions, resin is just so expensive plus I’m still learning....I’ve only resin poured 6 canvases so far. Thank you for your time and help. Trina
I would add the resin coat to the back as soon as possible. Don't pour the resin on, you will have to apply a very thin coat using a brush or a roller. 💕 Good luck!
Hi Tia, I am planning to put together a series of beginner videos. However, these won’t be happening for a few months, I have family coming over in Feb and March.
They are made of silicone, so once cured you can remove the resin. If you bend and flex the items, the resin breaks off. So all good to go for next time.
Sue I am just in love woth your creations. I liked the look of it not shinning one. How do you get that look? Its a different silicone? For the purpose I want, thats is the look I would like. Thank you so mch
