- I decided to put the new wheel physics to the test by jumping off a ramp I made myself, as a result of randomly messing about in the game. The speed I hit the ramp was probably about 140 to 160 m/s, although I wasn't looking most of the time. Sorry about the video stuttering a bit, it is caused by the high part count of the ramp. I know it's probably obvious, but I find it cool that the air pushed against the airbrakes, lifting the nose and thus lifting you.

Jump from Minmus to Kerbin, land off a mountaintop, carjump from ramp to ramp all the way back to KSC and fly over it, and do a backflip.

I love how you designed the ramp! XL landing gear to move it and can than lower the ramp on to its support stuctuer was well thought out.

"That's not what I expected" is such a Kerbal statement,
this design is pretty cool. i'd be surprised if it isn't possible in real life. imagine a car jumping 1km or further... :D love the drag stabilisation and the dampening thrusters with the parachute. all of these are systems that exist in current air- and spacecraft, so i don't see any engineering issues that would prove excessively difficult if one were to try this for real
honestly, i'm amazed you had the patience to create such a perfectly smooth ramp
would be really cool to land on another ramp so you dont have to use the boosters on the bottom
Yeah I may revisit that idea sometime. The main reason I didn't use another ramp was framerate drops, but I got the welding mod since then.

Anyway, nice idea with the ramp! But here's a challenge:
Constructing a cargo tansport rig for big, otherwise static objects like this ramp, maybe based on the wheel/rocket assembly that this ramp has. Then use it to build a whole stunt-drive-course of ramps! :D
It combines efficiency with insanity. ^^
That sounds like a great challenge. I'd love to try it, but unfortunately the ramp is a bit performance heavy and my game wouldn't be able to handle more than one. It originally had more fuel and struts and beams, but I had to remove everything that wasn't vital in order to record a video of it with acceptable FPS.

Thanks! I designed the ramp to kick me up to go over the buildings, I think I could also get more distance if I changed the angle to be a bit shallower. This maybe something I need to revisit.
Kerbals died, you used sepetrons in mid air which counts as powered flight, air brakes can be considered wings, and you used cheats to move the ramp... So i guess none of your goals where met xD anyway, awesome video! keep it up.
It was the sepatrons that bothered me the most. It was stopping in mid-air and hovering for crying out loud. LMAO

That welding mod might have helped with both the steering issues and the framerate, just for future reference!
I have already used the welding mod in the follow-up to this, definitely helped. :)
This makes me want to try sending a rocket into space using only a ramp to exit the atmosphere

Rules say not allowed to use powered flight, then uses vertical srbs to slow descent- powered flight.
Bro you said things to avoid powered flight, but you used power for your landing in the first jump, still giving a like tho!

I do like the video, i really do, but two things that i didn't like were that you used the air brakes in air( which i felt was like wings), I also didn't like that you used those rockets as you landed( which i felt was powered flight a little). Other than that, great video! :)
Thanks for the appreciation. I didn't put a lot of thought into the car in this video, both the airbrakes and the landing boosters were added for style, however I noted that both of them hindered my distance not aided it. The airbrakes added a lot of drag and slowed me much faster, and the landing boosters activated with the parachutes pulling the nose up, which caused them to apply some reverse thrust. By the follow-up video to this one I had removed those two things on a car designed to jump farther.

Just ignore the huge ramp with retractable gears and boosters that's currently taxiing over the runway.
KSP is when you need to use rocket engines to move a simple ramp
Add a reaction wheel to significantly reduce the time it takes to recover when crashing on the way up thus also reducing the amount of time that you vehicle is sideways, if it is sideways it will catch more air thus slowing it down

This is cool. Just an idea, if you lessen the angle at the end of the ramp you might be able to go further and clear the runway. no guarantee you will be able to land safely though : P
The ramp's final angle should be 45° for maximum distance.

In this case the curvature of the ramp is more important than the final angle. My first ramp was probably close to 45°, my second ramp was nearer to 30°, but I was able to hit it at Mach 1 and go farther. It's a limits of the KSP physics engine and the length of the workspace in SPH. i.imgur.com/nlFFiKs.jpg

What do you use to turn the ramp? (make the thrusters activate to turn the thing) its a mod or simple groups? -sorry for the English, my keyboard doesnt have the ' thing easy to access xD
It is normal action groups. I keep the throttle full and turn the groups on and off with the toggle ability.

6:19 It push you on top, this brings you in a position of nose up, then your strong boosters will push you in this direction. An flying construction, but not an efizient one.
