  • Nearly 200 years ago, one of the most important days for paleontology occurred with the first dinosaur being described and named, the Megalosaurus. Such little was known about dinosaurs at the time, that scientist believed the megalosaurus to have been four legged, and before that it was speculated to have been a biblical giant. In reality, it was a bipedal theropod that roamed England during the Middle Jurassic, and was one of the largest theropods to exist during this time period. It was truly a magnificent beast, which is why its name is quite fitting, meaning great lizard.
