  • In Ep 2 I’ll be sharing the part of my Cape York road trip from Coen to York Downs (Weipa) and everything in between.
Enjoy, and stay tuned for Ep 3 to take on more of the Cape with me.

    Why 2wd Cape York?
Whilst 2wding Cape York isn’t exactly the traditional way the road trip is done it was an adventure I took on for myself earlier this year (back in July) as part of my Aussie road trip. I knew very little about the Cape but felt the trip would be missing so much without this experience so I absolutely had to give it a go!
Normally you would be advised to take on the trip in a well prepared 4wd suited to the rough roads and remote conditions but I had a good feeling about the trip right through and it turned out to be one of my overall best experiences yet! Aside from taking your own vehicle you can do group tours on a 4wd bus or even hire a 4wd although companies can still set limits to how off road you can go and prices can add up quickly! I was set on a proper Aussie road trip so I wanted to give it a go with what I had. That said I did not drive the OTT and will definitely be back to do so one day (if you’re set to do the tracks please enjoy them for me for now!) Until then I still feel I got to experience so much and did everything I could to make the most of the experience.
Since driving Cape York I have gotten countless messages and questions from people wanting to know more, share the experience or take on the trip for themselves so I apologise that I’m so late getting around to sharing this but I hope it answers some of your 2wding questions and you can enjoy it just as much as I did!
I’ve decided the best way to share the experience is to break it up over a few episodes based on each part of my trip.
Feel free to drop any questions or comments down below in the comments section and I will do my best to get back to you with new episodes as soon as I can.

Thankyou, can't wait to do a trip to Cape too! Was hesitant as roads vary at different times & there are a couple of options & I been a bit confused about that.

It’s an amazing trip but your absolutely right, the road conditions and weather can make a massive difference! I found the best route for any vehicle is to follow the PDR, Telegraph Road, Bamaga Road and then Pajika Road to the tip but of cause you can turn off wherever you like to take on the 4wd tracks like OTT if you choose (: Hope that helps!

@@LauraWaddellTravel wow thanks for the info (I had no idea which is best route). I'd be travelling alone most likely too & not exactly a competent (or confident) 4 x 4er tho I been driving them most of my 60yrs of life now lol (just notvmechanically minded)

@@61cheezil that’s no worries, I found it so confusing before I went as well! I think it’s awesome that you’re willing to give it a go on your own and as you can see you can still meet new people and have a great time! If you go in the dry season there more then likely will be lots of other drivers to help out if anything were to go wrong but I’m sure you’re probably more capable then you give yourself credit for!

I loved this video so much, makes me want to take my i30 up there , you must have big KMs on her ,

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! I honestly think i30’s are so underrated after some of the places I’ve taken mine which I’m sure as an owner you’d understand! Mines well loved to say the least but it’s also second hand to me so the km’s are definitely getting up there 😅
