My grandma made this cake, only difference is she let the chopped apples brown with a spoon of sugar in a bowl for about a half hour, IDK why. Then she added a little flour to the bowl and mixed before adding them to her cake. She said it kept the apples from separating from the cake.
The praline poured on top seals it and keeps it moist
