With the old V8s yes but these new engines idk… turbos never last as long as N/A engines. I am a big believer in Toyotas reliability, and lean towards you are likely correct.
Yah you highlight all the gaps. No underseat storage. No auto 4wd. Don't need a slider the whole back window goes down. No tow hooks. But it's still a nice truck.
You're buying a Toyota. I'm sure Toyota won't put the new engine in if they think it's not reliable. I love to have one but it's just out of my price range.
Agreed. For the price paid you should have chosen the Ram 1500 or F150. For appearance purposes, the tires on this truck are way too small. They do nothing for the look. I am currently looking at the Ram 1500 Denali and Tundra Platinum.
@@GadgetBeard I actually turned off the video when he said that. He obviously is clueless about Toyotas legacy with rear windows. I loved mine on my old Tundra and now love mine on my 2018 4Runner!
That's been a standard option on the Crew Max for many years. I like to open my moon/sun roof with the back window rolled down, and cab widows up, when weather permits. Great configuration for 60 degree weather.
How could you complain about the back window not having a slide feature? The whole thing comes down and it’s the only truck on the market with that feature lol
i have had 2 tundras each with 200k miles and never had a single issue, i also have a tacoma with 255k miles no issues, a 2006 highklander hybrid with 248k miles no issue, and it was the first year highlander released a hybrid, my brother purchased a brand new ram 1500 diesel engine, and already failed after only 15k miles
Lol lots of issues with the new Tundra turbos on the forums…. I agree Ram messed up with their eco diesels, but their 5.7 Hemi, which I’ve owned 2 of them have never let me down. Their 8 speed transmissions are also arguably the best in the industry in terms of performance and track record. That being said, my border just got a 2015 Tundra, and I was surprised how it drove. I liked it a lot. I just hate the MPG it gets. Really wished Toyota and Ford would have mated the hybrid models with the V8 option.
I sold my 2017 Tundra for a Ram 2500 Cummins. I am having multiple issues with the Ram. Zero problems with the Tundra. I’m not sold on the V6 Turbo but would snag another V8 Tundra without hesitation
I don’t understand the comment about the rear window, the whole window goes down by the push of a button. It’s actually the one thing every truck owner agrees on( Ford, Ram, Chevy and GMC owners), they all wish their truck had this feature
I’ve had 2 F150s. Both had catastrophic engine failures under 150K. The last one within 2 months of replacing the combo brake rotors/wheel bearings (unnecessarily expensive). In contrast, my 2008 Tundra 5.7 is approaching 375K. But I did have to change out the battery (twice), the alternator, an axel bearing, and an electronically controlled valve in the transmission ($600). Runs great.
When I got my solar octane. The salesman was like the whole back window goes down. If you're at the beach with your buddies while drinking and driving you can just roll down the back glass and grab you some beer from the cooler when you're running low. Not a good salespitch but I'm sure people are using it for that reason
I think you didn’t define what features you wanted before buying the tundra all that well. The TRD pro is an off-roading variant of this truck. Good luck finding a Raptor or a TRX for $70 grand. That’s why it’s limited to the 5ft bed and why towing is limited as well. Any bigger your wheel base is too long to effectively off-road in. It was bought for the look but not for practical truck purposes.
Id buy 10 tundras before I'd buy any of the other trucks you listed. But I'm also not running a Hardscape crew. I have a 2013 Tundra TRD V8 5.7 l and I also have a 2022 F250 Super Duty. Two different trucks two different purposes. One is a work truck the other is meant for lighter Duty work but a much longer lasting vehicle and a much smoother ride with much more car-like features. Including down to the delay in Bluetooth in the F250, the lower-quality cruise control lower-quality climate control Etc Toyota has them beat in almost every measurable except load capacity
I have been truck shopping for the last 3-4 months or so. I can tell you right now, you aren’t going to get 2k of payload in a Ford/GMC/Chevrolet/Ram in the upper trim levels or off road packages in a half ton truck. In fact, the numbers you are quoting for a half ton truck are pretty good and on par with most of the trucks I find. The more fancy you add, the more the payload and towing capacity will go down. The same goes for towing. Unless you get a max trailer package, your towing numbers won’t be much better (if at all) than what you have. You’d be better off getting a 3/4 ton, though if you get a diesel your payload capacity will go down compared to a gas engine. All the other stuff comes down to preference. I’m just saying you might want to do some more in depth research before buying another truck you regret.
He made multiple comments showing he knows little about this truck, or half ton trucks in general. Payload comment definitely one of them. Complained about back window not opening when they have the best back window of any truck, entire thing rolls down, Toyota is famous for it, he had no idea.
Given the HP, torque, payload, and towing numbers I think they are great. No one should ever purchase a 1/2 truck with the goal of maxing out the payload and towing capacity. It is always safer and wiser to go with a 3/4 to handle that type of duty. That being said, this is a nice truck. I have not test driven one yet but the suspension setup on this truck is one that gives it an upper hand in comparison to the competition. This is more attuned for comparison to a Raptor or maybe even the TRX. Anyone spending the money for this setup hopefully want to do some offroad adventuring and camping which you completely leave out of the equation. Is this an overpriced mall crawler for the average joe who just needs a truck bed? Yes, absolutely. However, for those seeking to have a truck that can both tow light trailers and handle almost 2k capacity (overlanding) while having specialized suspension, 4 wheel drive, and options for a locking differential it is a tough competitor. :) This coming from a Ram 2500 Powerwagon Owner. Cheers
Thanks this comment was really inciteful. I will probably wait a year or two before purchasing because though the hybrid idea intrigues me, I'm not sure I want to be Toyota's field beta tester lol. I'm sure there are others who have deeper pockets than me to get the kinks out of this new system.
Great looking truck, no doubt. Love the interior and exterior look. I would definetly have the 6.5 bed though. At $70K though, full size trucks have become luxury people haulers, not used to do truck things. I would wait another year or two, give the Toyota engineers more time to work out the issues.
The entire back window rolls down, it’s something Toyota is famous for and all of their trucks do it, surprising someone who reviews trucks wouldn’t know that if I do.
My first truck in 97 at 16 was a 80 Toyota pickup with 100K plus. Still own it, runs and no engine overhaul. 26 years later I bought a 2024 1794 hybrid and love it. engine is based on a LS 600 motor with modifications. Toyota not only tests but they retest and 4 four bolts where you need 2. I hope will be driving this truck when I'm 60. I owned a 18 RAM Hemi base model....Good truck, other brands good to. To much to choose from. Great video.

You’re right about your review of this truck. Toyota copied a lot of what Ford has done. Unfortunately they didn’t do enough in comparison. They did get the price up to what a F150 would be. Funny how tow hooks and bed steps are considered gimmicks to some. Don’t get me wrong I love Toyota, but this leaves me saying ….I’m getting what ..for how much?

The rear window switch is right beside your sunroof opener switch! It says "push to open" on it - push to get the most glorious wind flow you've ever experienced!
From my research, in my area, a comparable Ford f150 hybrid is running 6-12k more than the Tundra. It's closer to that 60k mark I told my wife it would cost for a new truck. Lol. So that and the looks is why in leaning Tundra.
You sure said a lot of nice things about the truck for a guy saying you made a mistake. Let's not forget you cannot compare the quality or resale of Toyota. Plus, all of my friends driving a comparable big 3 truck paid 100K and they have many, many complaints...all relative! I've owned 6 Toyota Trucks, one being a Tundra...None of them have ever been towed or back to the dealership and I sold them all for a small fortune. First guy that comes buys them as they are reliable, tough and resale is incredible. No comparison for me.
I ordered this beauty on September 2022, I Got it on February 8, 2023, with some extra features, I finished the papers for $91,000. I drove it 5 miles (Five), and it's in the dealer since last night, 9 features require sensors are not working now, I am not happy. Made in America.
That’s easy you got two choices. option one you pay for quality, reliability, durability and something that works! or option two you pay for more gadgets and widget on domestic 1/2 to 3/4 ton crap trucks.
I would have bought a ram rebel or trx. Man those trucks are a beast. I’m not a big fan about Ford cars at all unless we talking about the Raptor but THAT’S IT. I also think that tundra would have looked better with a 2 or 3 inch lift included and bigger tires on my opinion.
No slider here...talking about the rear window. The entire widow is a slider. $70 grand....compared to the compitition. Have you priced the competition?
outside the fact ALL of the window rolls down, not just a tiny portion. ALSO - despite the reliability differences between the Tundy and the other brands, the TRD Pro will hold it's value better than any truck in it's class. You want a smart investment - buy a Tundra
I have one and I love it!!! Some of the comments dont make sense… A denali is way more money!!! Have you looked at the prices… and an F-150 doesnt haul more
This guy is completely biased in favor of American trucks... This a TRD PRO trim, which is made for offroading, this is not a work truck. Also it would be nice if you did your homework and knew that the entire rear window slides down letting more air than any other full size truck
For the price I agree I’d probably go with the GMC Sierra Denali but the tundra from what I’ve heard is a great truck sooo idk really it’s pick and choose what fits your lifestyle
I'm guessing you looked into all those other trucks before you bought the Tundra. Why did you choose the Tundra, since you knew the others offered more? I have no need for the big window roof myself. I'm apprehensive about all the problems Tundra was having with Turbo and axle. Figuring/hoping Toyota is probably getting close to fixing them.
My ‘18 loaded F150 Lariat listed out at $62K but bought new for $50K - before Covid/chip shortage/supply chain issues/inflation. The exact spec’d Lariat became $75K+ (with markups on top of this new list price) ridiculous but attainable - as regular demand far exceeded build supply. And Ford/GM/Ram took advantage. However, the market is now coming back into balance - the big FL dealers inventories are ballooning and starting to see $5K to as much as $10k reductions from LIST.
You made the right choice. It’s funny people talk about Toyota copying ford etc, which is true to an extent. However, every other manufacturer, ford, gm, ram etc. have all tried or hired former Toyota employees to copy Toyota’s manufacturing system and process. Watch videos on ford production and you’ll see it’s Japanese (Kawasaki) robots helping build their trucks….
This guys has no clue what he is talking about. First, he gives a negative comment for no sliding rear window when every crew cab Tundra has a rear window that completely goes down. In fact it is the only truck in the US with that feature. Second, he complains that there is no special feature for the tailgate and completely misses the fact that the tailgate goes down with a push of a button embedded in the taillight. Last point, it is a TRD PRO which is capable off great off roading but he does not mention a single feature. Clearly this guy knows nothing about trucks and wasted his money buying a TRD PRO version. Lucky for him most know that a Tundra is the best built truck in the US, has incredible resale value and is highly reliable.
Yeah I get you. I owned one now for 10 months. Platinum trim non hybrid. It’s not that great I’m ready to jump back into Silverado. The tundra is for Toyota fans only. With that said the back windows rolls down all the way and there is a button on the driver side taillight that drops the tailgate. Check those things out and you may like it a little more. Lol.
What no tape measure!?? Yeah... the F150 looks like a better choice on paper. But you should always bring your dog with you in a Ford. That way you won't have to walk home alone.
Love your work, BUT you missed this one by a postal code or two. The TRD PRO is not in the same category as a F150 Luxury model. It is an off-road warrior. It is like buying a 911 turbo and comparing to your SUV while on the way to the shopping mall. The TRD PRO is meant for 100% off-road. The suspension is set up that way. Compare it a Rebel or a Raptor or a TRX. Take it down a washboard road or take it up crazy off-road hill climbs. I just took my 2023 on Oregon's BDR (Back Road Discovery Route). Over 800 miles off road. I would never take a luxury F150 on that run, nor should it. After 800 miles of gravel and dirt it is still tight with no rattles. Just some scratches and marks :) It handled endless gravel washboard roads at 70 miles an hour and climbed strong through tighter terrain in bull low with the rear lockers on. PS Who has a rear slider anymore? The whole back window disappears!
A lot to like on the trd pro tundra. Toyotas just feel great. However, have a 22 raptor and just feel like for similar msrps here it’s not too close to me. Would rather have a trx as well for the money . Actually, have an allocation for a trd pro sequoia that I’m on the fence about.
Would be nice if a car reviewer knew all the features of the truck before reviewing it and giving an opinion. How could you not know the back glass rolled down? It's been a feature of the Tundra for over a decade.
Hot looking ride very functional not too many gimics but enough to compete in the market and keep the owner happy. Now gotta figure out how stop rubber neckers from stopping me on the road to inquire about the truck. It is not a me too truck like the millions of F150
Also forgot the bump button in the driver side tail light. For the tail gate release……. Seems like forgot a few things. 🤷♂️. Guess you can sell it and get what you want.

The rear window switch is right beside your sunroof opener switch! It says "push to open" on it - push to get the most glorious wind flow you've ever experienced!
Yep, got it, thanks.
You would think a reviewer of trucks would know that, and that no 4 wheel drive half ton has 2k payload! 😂
From my research, in my area, a comparable Ford f150 hybrid is running 6-12k more than the Tundra. It's closer to that 60k mark I told my wife it would cost for a new truck. Lol. So that and the looks is why in leaning Tundra.
The TRD PRO Tundra only comes in Hybrid with 5 and a half foot box.👍
You sure said a lot of nice things about the truck for a guy saying you made a mistake. Let's not forget you cannot compare the quality or resale of Toyota. Plus, all of my friends driving a comparable big 3 truck paid 100K and they have many, many complaints...all relative! I've owned 6 Toyota Trucks, one being a Tundra...None of them have ever been towed or back to the dealership and I sold them all for a small fortune. First guy that comes buys them as they are reliable, tough and resale is incredible. No comparison for me.
Love your reviews, glad to ck them always 💪🏻💪🏻
Entire back window goes down.
hahahah 70 K for window )))))
Well that was a big oversight on my part.
I ordered this beauty on September 2022, I Got it on February 8, 2023, with some extra features, I finished the papers for $91,000. I drove it 5 miles (Five), and it's in the dealer since last night, 9 features require sensors are not working now, I am not happy. Made in America.
Best truck in the market just got mine yesterday!
That’s easy you got two choices. option one you pay for quality, reliability, durability and something that works! or option two you pay for more gadgets and widget on domestic 1/2 to 3/4 ton crap trucks.
What??? you complain about rear window “no slider to get fresh air or reach into bed” when the ENTIRE WINDOW goes down! That pretty big oversight man.
It was a joke.
No mention of the tailgate open button on the rear light or the rolling back window while complaining about both of those things…
...you mentioned that it does not have a back sliding window however does not the entire rear window go down in the TRD Pro?
Yes it does. Dumb oversight by me.
My last ram had two transmissions put in it before I switched to a tundra
Beautiful Truck! To get a 23 Raptor with similar options, you would looking at +90k.
In my opinion can't go wrong with any Toyota....
I like the photo/video montage at the end.
Remember this is Toyota the best of the best
That truck looks great in that color!
You realize that entire back window rolls down right?
Yes.
It will run for a long time and have higher resale value throughout. Plus if you want to lift it you can do it without a ton of cutting.
How do you not have a rear power window that comes down? Isn’t that a tundra staple
yep
I have one and I love it!!! Some of the comments dont make sense… A denali is way more money!!! Have you looked at the prices… and an F-150 doesnt haul more
You did great. You’ll never meet the service manager.
Great review Dave.
My is on the way for order, exciting to see and drive my soon too
I love the rear view trademark
Make me wanna trade my Silverado in
I think that Toyota you bought will hold its value better than the competition. If and when you decide to trade out of it you will do better.
Toyotas have the best resale value of any of those manufacturers
This guy is completely biased in favor of American trucks... This a TRD PRO trim, which is made for offroading, this is not a work truck. Also it would be nice if you did your homework and knew that the entire rear window slides down letting more air than any other full size truck
Ha nice try.
For the price I agree I’d probably go with the GMC Sierra Denali but the tundra from what I’ve heard is a great truck sooo idk really it’s pick and choose what fits your lifestyle
You need to review fords only since you obviously love them. I’ll take a Toyota over a ford any day, that’s a beautiful truck!
The back window slides down. Why would I want that small window. 🤔
I have a 22 model as well, and I just keep feeling like I got ripped off, lol 😆
Sick there 84k in Washington I'd buy one for 70k and I'd be totally fine with that
Same been shopping for one. $20k markup or 18-24 month wait. Who the F waits 2 years for a truck. I wouldn’t wait that long for a house.
Tundra is by far the best truck on the road. It will outlast every brand as well.
nice review, first time viewer, i'll be back. subscribed
Everything but that front fascia is amazing on that truck. I don’t know what it is , but the Tundra has never excited me till now.
The fascia is a little different on other trims
@@SuperMrgentleman I just purchased a Tundra Platinum, love it !
For $70,000 , that better wine and dine me
Show me a better one for cost in class. No seriously.
How do you get in the back bed of the truck when tailgate is down if your an older guy.
The rear window rolls down, do some research my dude!!
Lol
no, it doesnt have a slider on the window, because THE WHOLE WINDOW rolls down, unlike ford chevy ram , they only have a sliding tiny window.
Automatic give a way that he never had a Tundra ever.
Rear window slide down is one of the staple part of a Tundra.
I wonder if he ever found out?
That truck is awesome interested in both Toyota and Ford. Wonder how you would equip an f150?
Yeah I get you. I owned one now for 10 months. Platinum trim non hybrid. It’s not that great I’m ready to jump back into Silverado. The tundra is for Toyota fans only. With that said the back windows rolls down all the way and there is a button on the driver side taillight that drops the tailgate. Check those things out and you may like it a little more. Lol.
How does it tow?
The rear window rolls down, like all the other windows... lol
I’ve owned Chevy, ford and dodge. Selling my trucks and switching to Toyota - only had excellent reliability
I would love to know where did you get this trd pro for 70K ? i’m paying 72K for the Limited (lower trim).
Vu...you are WAYYYY overpaying for that limited!!!! Look around before you buy!!
@@jamesm8977 78K FOR TRD PRO INCLUDES DEALER MARK UP IN ALASKA
The whole back window rolls down
I know
@@everymandriver That's cool you know, but that comment was for your viewers who didn't know👍🏾
I thought the back glass rolls down.
It does
What no tape measure!?? Yeah... the F150 looks like a better choice on paper. But you should always bring your dog with you in a Ford. That way you won't have to walk home alone.
You realize the entire rear window rolls down. Patented only with Toyota!!!
Yes
A TRX is 100K+ lol
Way better then F-150 in my opinion. Also consider that you won’t have much of depreciation few years down the line.
Those is300 pedals?
Would be nice if a car reviewer knew all the features of the truck before reviewing it and giving an opinion. How could you not know the back glass rolled down? It's been a feature of the Tundra for over a decade.
With 70k truck, I probably be eating bean and rice for a long time to paid off the truck.
Consider it will out last a ford F150 you did good !!! Tundra is more reliable than the other competition!
Finally the review I’ve searched for!!! Thank you
Hot looking ride very functional not too many gimics but enough to compete in the market and keep the owner happy. Now gotta figure out how stop rubber neckers from stopping me on the road to inquire about the truck. It is not a me too truck like the millions of F150
Great choice!
Also forgot the bump button in the driver side tail light. For the tail gate release……. Seems like forgot a few things. 🤷♂️. Guess you can sell it and get what you want.
LOL
@@everymandriver was a good video none the less. Glad you LoL 👍
I trust the Tundra's turbos more than Ford's ecoboost turbos in terms of reliability and longevity

Im confused... if im in the market for a truck I do my homework. When I purchase im certain I bought the right truck. Seems like you think you made a mistake? Next time I recommend you do your homework so you dont have to second guess yourself.
Personally I did a lot of research I knew what I wanted in a truck and then with confidence went on to buy a 2023 Tundra TRD Sport Crewmax in Lunar Rock. $55k.
No regrets... love it!
