It’s interesting how you picked up on Chan being more intimidating back then, he was, and even the members say he was. That was because he had to be, he worked extremely hard in getting Stray Kids to debut and he had to be stern with the new members because he wanted them to succeed and debut with him.

'Hellevator' and 'Grr' were "test" songs, for JYP to see how the group behaved as 9(at the time), both were released and featured at the time of the reality show, in 2017, before their debut (District 9-2018).
In the last episode of the reality show, JYP made Stray Kids present Hellevator with 7 members (without Lee Know and Felix), and then with 9, in the end he decided that with 9 members it was more complete, that's when Lee Know and Felix came back and debuted with the group

Chan is more intimidating looking as he was extremely serious. These were pre-debut songs, they were still under threat of not debuting and Chan had waited a long time for this opportunity.
Chans hair is naturally wavy. Being pre-debut I assume they didn't really have stylists as such.

Yeah, Lee know didnt have as many parts in the earlier songs, but we STAYS are so happy that he has been able to shine the last couple years! Also, yes Bangchan does have natural curly hair... He sometimes shows his hair during his Sunday TH-cam lives being absolutely all over the place 🤣

    Answering some questions
3Racha don't have an official MV but they have a performance with it and you can watch that instead, they slay! But I would recommend watching the fancam of "20220918 Straykids concert" one since on official videos they edited out a lot of Bang Chan's parts
You're right, Hellevator was the very first official MV they did, it's a pre-debut promotion MV, a lot of people mistakenly thought that it was they're debut, they're just babies there 🥺
08:20 you're right, that was the ex-member's voice (Woojin)
11:00 I get what you mean, I guess it was because at the time Bang Chan was under so much pressure and stressing so much about debuting that he looked very intimidating when he got his serious face on
16:00 this is my personal opinion, early days Lee Know hasn't really developed stable singing and rapping skills yet since he just barely became a trainee before Bang Chan snatched him up, so he was their dance core. But because he also don't get much lines he could barely be in the center (plus the whole thing from the survival show that I'm still salty about), but now he gained so much skills in the vocal department that he'd became a solid presence within the vocal-focused line of the group
17:00 again, this is my personal opinion. Pre-debut and debut era Bang Chan took the lead most of the times because he's the leader and been trained the most, but as time progressed and his kids gotten more comfortable and confident, he started to take a step back so his kids would shine and find their own spotlights, you can see it in the way he just looked so damn proud whenever any of his kids stepped up
17:45 That's his natural hair, his hair is naturally wild and curly...unfortunately in recent years his scalp had been so badly damaged that he is losing hair (because of stress too) so his hairstyles had been quite muted
Fellow Bang Chan bias here, that man is so special 💯

I am also so, so salty about the survival show - and I only just found Stray Kids about a month ago! I understand on the one hand why JYP did what he did and I think it did help Felix and Minho become stronger and grow in their talents. BUT - I sobbed so much at 2 am when Minho was cut and again the next day (it took me a couple days to watch the whole series) when Felix was cut.

It was Seungmin's voice at first. It goes Seungmin, Woojin, then Chan very quickly. Chan does step back and let the other members have more shine as they have progressed. Most of the members have curly or wavy hair naturally. You will see Chan with it most, but you'll see peeks of their hair here and there.

Both Lee Know and Felix sometimes only had 1 or 2 lines in the early song. Confidence is a big part of that. Felix had to work hard to become fluent in Korean at an accelerated pace. While many of them were trainees for years Lee Know was the last member to join and was a trainee for just 2 months. He has a beautiful falsetto and now sometimes branches into an edgy rock sounding voice.
All 8 of the member sing and rap but for the majority of SKZ songs Changbin, Han, Hyunjin and Felix are the Rap Line and Seungmin, Chan, Han, Lee Know and I.N are the Vocal Line. Yes, Han has been part of both the Rap Line and Vocal Line since pre-debut with Hellivator.

@@hannah8414 From a Trendspotter article I looked up (I'm Australian, but both from a different part of Australia and too old to know the slang haha):
The eshay is considered by some as the sickest crew around and by others a scourge on society. This generally male youth subculture is the Australian equivalent of the British chavs or roadmen. The culture and accompanying aesthetic came from the low-income housing estates of inner Sydney and Melbourne. Similarly, the culture is associated with the Australian rap and drill scene, originating from those areas. Artists like Kerser, ONEFOUR, Nter, and Spanian spearheaded the look and vibe, rapping about their struggles growing up in house commissions and turning to gangs, crime, drugs, and violence. As such, it’s a popular look among young people who feel they’ve been dealt a tough hand. Of course, like any alternative group, there are also posers. That’s why it’s not uncommon to find many eshays with extremely privileged backgrounds.
Given Chan's from a reasonably wealthy family (from my understanding) I'd suspect he's from the last group. Unlikely to have been heavily involved in the drugs and crime.

Chan's hair IS naturally curly!!! But from some point since one of their older comebacks they started mostly having it straightend. If you search up his natural hair you can find a lot of pictures of his natural brown curly hair. (that I personally prefer over the straightened but oh well) (Also in one of the eras (I am who/ My Pace) it was made even curlier but it isn't natural as far as I know)

you mentioning that chan looks much more intimidating than he does now is actually a great observation! I keep getting surprised with how perceptive you are.
all the members said chan used to be much colder and stricter back in the days, he worked hard to help the boys and stray kids as a whole become who they are now. their impression of him is that he didn’t smile much and he had a lot of knowledge and was good at leading a group and dictating the pace. they were all a little intimidated by him, but for example changbin said when he first saw him smile he suddenly looked like a baby.
I highly recommend watching the zach sang show interview with stray kids, it’s fully in english and chan reveals a lot about his trainee days snd why he wasn’t the warmest person back then and their group concept as a whole, it’s super interesting.

"why you mad bruh" besides him being aussie to the max, is also a reference to a VLIVE he did and was receiving comments that people didn't like one of their songs and he was like "I'm going to play it anyways, why you mad bruh?" (btw is a master piece The tortoise and the hare) and the whole 3Racha track is them being proud of being SKZ producers (Damn right!) and basically telling the haters to f*ck off
Hellevator is their pre-debut song, it was their first mission at the survival program, they had to make a song, sing, chireograph and perform all by themselves (with little help if they needed but mostly their own product), it was so good the company decided to make a predebut MV. Chan made the track, Han and Changbin wrote the lyrics and Lee Know choreographed it but he was excluded from the credits because he was eliminated later so they left only the choreographer team that helped him, also this is why he had less screen time since he was kind of a weak link even though he debuted as the main dancer. He had years of experience dancing but little training singing (less than 2 months) so yeah, he needed more training, he trained and now... boy he's pure talent just like the rest of the kids

those 3 songs are the phase where they still trying to figure out their color and working in tune with each other..Hellevator is literally the PRE-debut song, their debut song is District 9. Chan stood out as leader in earlier days because He said they needed him to be that since they were all literal Stray TEENS and needed at least one person to be the pillar in the group. Chan were much more intimidating and authoritative back in the early days. but nowadays since the kids are in tune and understand their role already, Chan doesnt need to be that anymore and has been more the (tired) father of 7 kids. Lee know and I.N didnt get many parts in earlier days too because they were trying to figure out their voice color too, i think for me subjectively they started to find their sound during Go Live album..anyway good reaction! next maybe 2kids1room or SKZ code

Chan's hair is naturally wavy/curly. You can see it really well in the My Pace video. It's adorable!!
GRR is probably one of my most favorite songs Stray Kids has done. I'm so happy you reacted to it!
Lee Know in the early days didn't get a lot of lines/screen time because in my opinion, I think he and Chan both knew he needed time to develop his vocal skills. If you ever get around to watching the Stray Kids survival show, you'll see why. As the group has improved over time, he has also honed his skills and brings such a unique tone to their music.
Going in order is actually really smart! You'll get to see a lot of their music that a lot of other people don't even pay attention to at all. I'm looking forward to it.

We have the same bias!! Another term you can add to your catalog is bias wrecker (one of the other members does something that makes you rethink who your bias is.) Hellevator was pre-debut song and District 9 is their debut song. You were correct in Hellevator that was the member that left's voice. God's Menu is really where they found their sound and really took off from there sonically, visually and higher budget. Chan purposely gives himself fewer lines than other members so he can shine more! I find it amazing how you're so observant and can tell the team's dynamics before you truly know them and compare and contrast them from old to new skz from just a handful of songs. Chan likes to take on background adlibs and harmonies as you can see in Manaic. On a side note, Chan did address himself as eshay before when he was younger. Love your reaction as always looking forward to more Stray Kids reactions.

That playlist might miss a few street version videos, and some of the dance practices too - but Stay will probably guide you when something is missing.
Chan is my ult bias and Lee Know is also my bias. Everyone else is my bias wrecker. Channie has been my bias since before I really got into stray kids, and I really discounted Lee Know - until his dancing, personality, and singing slapped me in the face and snatched my soul. But all of them try to snatch my soul.
All three of the performances you watched were pre-debut. And Lee Know had one of the rap parts in Hellevator, the one between Felix and Han at the end. With Woojin in the group, he tended to take the parts that I’d consider better suited for him and he, Seungmin and Han take most of Woojin’s parts in the remastered albums.

Unfortunately there's no music video for "3racha", nor "taste" (the danceracha unit song from the same album). We have been robbed. Actually there are SO MANY of their songs that deserve an mv, but our bois are overworked so I won't ask for more :) Some songs have performance videos/dance practices though! If you are interested in seeing them dancing more i suggest you to check them out, their choreos are insane.
Also, because you mentioned MVs storyline: they kind of had one in the beginning, but i think it stopped after the Clé series and now they are all disconnected. I still like watching things in order and seing their evolution, so I think is a good idea anyway.
About Hellevator: yes, it was the first music video they ever shot, and they actually made the song DURING the survival show, so pre-debut (same with "Grrr" and "Spread my wings", they are all part of the first Mixtape, with "yayaya" "glow" "school life" and "4419"). For context, their western age at the time ranged from 20 (Chan) to 16 (I.N).. so yeah, babies ahahahah
I love that song but knowing what they were going through at that time and reading the lyrics it's just so sad i can barely listening to that anymore. Still a banger tho.
The former member's name is Woojin, and he used to be the main vocal (before they stopped having assigned positions).
17:44 Chan's natural hair is curly! Unfortunately now it's very damaged and he's starting to loose it (stress doesn't help), He's having a hard time growing them again and that's why you probably won't see him with colored hair again (for a while, at least)
ps. I don't have a bias cause the more you get to know these guys the more they all impress you, but I think we can all agree that Chan is a super human. We love our best leader, even tho he sometimes does not love himself

I used to be an archaeologist and recently I went to the University I graduated from to give a lecture about being a wheelchair user in the field. I was warned many of the younger first years were worried that they would say something offensive and also it was a Friday before half-term so many wanted to go home, not attend a mandatory lecture. Before I started I said if they wanted to leave early, I would play them a verse from a song and anyone who thought it was boring could leave. I played Chan's verse and 75 % of the room went 'Pow-Pow-Pow' at the top of their voices, including the staff.
I then used Ateez and Stray Kids lore to get suggestions on how they would accommodate mobility impaired archaeologists. I used Hellevator and Halazia (because one is a big round building and the other an abandoned shopping centre), so they had to imagine as they dug through each layer from the top where would they judge it to become too dangerous for both the mobility impaired user and other staff. Seeing them pick apart and admit they had to say there was a point where inclusion has to end for safety reasons seemed to turn on a light bulb for them.
I created a few StayTiny that day. Oh, and got invited to speak at a conference with an extended version. So I am on the hunt for mvs of any group that kpop stans think I could use.

First, let me welcome you to the absolute obsession that is Skz. I really enjoy your content and love supporting all of our new Baby Stays. Congratulations on discovering your bias so early. I am still flip flopping around my bias line 2 years later.
So quickly let me help explain a few things and connect some dots that I found so confusing at first.
Like others have mentioned the stuff you watched today were pre-debut at the tail end of 3rd generation.
Traditionally positions mentioned in the intros (ie: main dancer or visual) clearly defined what a member was able to do or not do. For example Lee Know's position originally was main dancer. Dancers have few vocals and focus on dance.
Skz debuted as 4th generation and really paved the way in slowly getting rid of the idea of set positions. So now Lee Know is not just the"main dancer/sub vocalist" they all dance, rap, sing, produce and are visuals. It is one of the things that make skz great and set them apart from other groups.

After Changbin's opening rap in Hellevator, Suengmin starts off the vocals for a short verse, and then Woojin who left, continues them. During the pre-deut era, Chan had by far the most experience performing, and was really working on being the Leader with a capital L, and the intimidating feel was really played up then. That was also the vibe they were trying to project as a group to differentiate themselves from other debuting boy groups, so they played it up a lot.

In 2017 to early 2018 the instrumental for Hellevator was EVERYWHERE like i even watched a few gaming channels that had it as their intro or outro and i know they didnt know it was kpop
Also!!! I highly recommend the "3racha being the geniuses behind stray kids" video, as a fan since 3racha days it really does them justice in showing how far theyve come

Hey I just found your channel and love the reactions!!! Chan is also my bias so welcome to the club of wanting to dote all the love and affection on this very stubborn human being. If you want to make your videos longer as you've been saying you can also react to dance practices as well as MVs and just see the skills these kids have when dancing. Honestly it's utterly amazing. My favourite dance practice has to be Domino tho it is tooooooo good. And for more personality based stuff you can watch 2kids room this will give you a more deeper understanding into group dynamics (but I must say most of your observations have been correct so far). Ooooooh and then there's skz code and that's their reality TV stuff where they play games and hang out and stuff. Oooooh then if you want more Channie you can watch compilations of Channies room they are tooooooo funny.

Fellow Chan bias! :) Yeah, as someone pointed out, he was a bit more intimidating and stern back then since, as you picked up, he was a much more upfront leader, I guess? He's also mentioned that his natural hair is curlier, which is why it's that way in the earlier videos.

Lee Know and Felix didn't have a lot screen time in their early videos. They almost didn't debut as members of the group but I can't actually imagine how SKZ would have been without them. Also Felix was still not fluent in korean so his parts were shorter because of that too. If you have the time and if you want to, you can watch their pre-debut reality show. It really shows some of the harship they've been through and their growth.
Also, even though their technicity and the quality of their videos at that time were not as good as now, Hellevator is still one of my favourite SKZ song just because of the lyrics and the story behind it.

  • @AmalaFrequents
    @AmalaFrequents ปีที่แล้ว +1

These songs are all from their pre-debut mixtape. They wrote them for their evaluations in their survival show where they were being tested by the label to debut. Lee Know actually got cut really early (he was brought back later and the group fought for him), he'd only been a trainee for like maybe 2 months when their survival show started. He completed the basic dance class in two weeks (it takes most people near a year) and Chan grabbed him for his dance skill, but because he had barely trained his vocals weren't that strong at first. He actually got moved to rap by their CEO, on the spot during an evaluation, he'd had no training. So early on I think Lee Know didn't get featured as much. But he's worked so hard that he's now got a really stand out voice and his stage presence in incredible, and at the end of last year he released his first solo song (that he also wrote) on their SKZ Replay album and it was hugely popular. One of my favourite things about Stray Kids is that you can see their growth, and they never stop striving to improve and develop new skills, even though they already are so impressive. And because they are self produced, they are able to feature and show the members' new skills as just another instrument to play with.

Will you be watching dance practice videos? They are great opportunities to watch b sides that didn’t get videos or to see full choreography you miss in MV. SKZ choreo is seriously insane.

You are right, in the beginning 3Racha (especially Han, but also Chan) get the most line where Lee Know get very little.
But as they progress and Lee Know also progress further, the distribution is more and more equal. Of course sometime this member get more line than that member, but overall they are fairly equal.
Han was the cheat key (Chan's own word) so he got the heavy lifting aside from his rap part. Especially peak when they newly 8 members group. Because the one that left was their main vocalist and when the re-distributed his lines, Han get quite a bit despite being rapper.
But the members get more confident in their abbility so they progressively getting more and more line for themselves

Woojin was the 9th member. I wasn't a Stay back then when there were 9 members, but I read this in the comments. He was the main vocalist back then, he is the same age as Chan actually a bit older, so I think it is naturally that they had main roles back then. Seungmin and I.N were very very young back then. When he left they had a hard time with their songs because of the vocal parts. Most of them went to Han, they were and are very lucky that he is an all rounder and could manage the high notes. I read somewhere that when Woojin left Seungmin felt a big pressure and he wanted to fill the empty place Woojin left in the vocal line. Han was a rapper originally and I.N was so young , he felt he has to be as good as Woojin. Seungmin started to work like crazy on his vocals and managed to improve it to the heavenly vocals we hear nowdays.
As for Lee Know it is only my theory, but back then he was almost eliminated in their survival show. Actually he was eliminated and Felix too, but they came back in the end and they managed to debute together. He was eliminated because of his singing skills. He was already a very talented dancer at that time, he danced for years, but singing was very new for him back then. Maybe thats why we can't see him often in older mvs because he had fever lines. Ofc now he is a very talented singer too. Btw Felix was eliminated because he wasn't fluent in korean.
Maybe this is the reason why we saw Chan so much back then. He was older and much more experienced than the younger members. Nowdays all of them are very experienced and managed to perfect their own skills.
I absolutely love all of them but my bias is Chan too. His personality is what I like the most😊 (Sorry about my english I try my best to explain things but this is not my first language)

    • @ajlngc
      @ajlngc ปีที่แล้ว +2

Woojin actually wrote a song called "Growing pains" which talks about his mental health and how he didn't want to hold the members back due to his personal issues.
Which is why he left. He wouldn't have left if big companies like JYP let young kpop idols rest to recover then return. What made matters worse was that toxic kpop fans made false claims and rumours about woojin... which is a long story that I'm asuming every Stay knows.
For those who made those false allegations, you ain't No Stay. Stays are supposed to Stay with the members no matter what.
Which is why I always say that Woojin will forever be a Stray Kid.
There's a reason why Bang Chan chose him.

I cannot choose one as my bias, i love them all almost equally, but my favorite trio is Chan Changbin and Felix.. And HOLLY SHIT CHAN IN 3RACHA IS REASON TO LIVE hehehe~
There is no mv, but it is unveil track and you should watch it, not necessary as reaction... Chan absolutely... uh i do not have words yk can u blame me? .D
They literally babies in Hellevator, 4 of them were just 17 back then, it was pre-debut song from their show, I.N was 16 and others not much older, sooo they really improved much c:
Woojin is really good singer. I came to them as 8, i do not know much abt him, but i cannot deny, he sings really good~
Yeah looks like Chan really lets other boys shine, its sooo nice .D
but sometimes we want more of him :c

Unrelated to this video itself (great video btw🤍)
But, I just wanted to ask/kinda warn about Kingdom: Legendary War, which is a competition esque show that Stray Kids performed on. Its a show that will allow you to get to know Stray Kids much more in how their team works, produce and how hard working they are, whilst also giving us amazing performances that at the time were recorded live (then edited by the editors of Mnet, live irl but not to an audience if you get what im saying). Not only that, you will be able to meet 5 other kpop groups within different companies and different years of experience within the industry, SF9, Ateez, BTOB, iKON and The Boyz (all amazing performers and groups with their own amazing talents and styles), and probably around like 20 more members for you to meet😂.
    Warnings:
    - Mnet is known for its evil editing (for drama purposes, which is where they for example, when back in Stray Kids Survival Show, they edited out the context of where Chan was pranking Han on his birthday, making him look like a bad leader or when in I-Land, another survival show that created ENHYPEN, where a trainee named K got a lot of hate because of Mnet’s evil editing.)
    2. Kingdom Legendary War has heavy copyright and a lot of videos are flagged and/or taken down on youtube for it, so most people twitch livestream it or post it on Patreon’s to avoid copyright :)
Anyways, the question was just to ask if you were going to react to it and if so when? And to anybody who is reading this, Have a good day and if the day hasn’t been all too pleasant then get some rest when you can 🤍🤍

The guy you said whose voice sounds nice in Hellevator is the former member Woojin. I don’t know much about him since I became a Stay after he left, but he was their main vocal during the time he was active. When he left, Seungmin had to take over his role as the main vocal and he’s mentioned before that he felt a lot of pressure and attends vocal lessons diligently to this day to improve. Clearly his discipline/persistence paid off because Seungmin is a phenomenal vocalist, he is irreplaceable!! He’s always been an amazing singer but the improvement is insane😊❤ thanks for this video, love to see your reactions to their old and new stuff and seeing how far they’ve come!!!

yeah its very visible to me now when skz first debuted the spotlight was on 3racha as they were probably considered the most talented of the group. Like as in survival show lino and felix were heavily criticized right. So I guess they didnt get much screentime and parts at the start of they debut. But skz as a group overcame a lot they all improved so much as vocalists rappers and producers so I think their discography now shows more versatilty compared to their debut times. Also knowing that they produced their own songs since debut, their improvement as 3racha made them find their own sound I think now that we can see clearly. Sorry I just wanted to share my opinion but eng is not my first language so I probably didnt make much sense lol
