It was a plot directed or at least with the acknowledgment of the royal house to ensure support for the coming decades. The right wing was utterly disappointed with king Juan Carlos and the left wing never cared for a monarchy in the first place. This gave him the popularity he needed to ensure the left wing would accept a monarchy as "the lesser of evils", looking at the figure of the king as a barrier for the old school, and the right would just take it in because after this there was no going back to the previous regime, no one would attempt a real coup knowing beforehand the head of the army would not back it.
Nowhere even close to Trumpers. These guys knew exactly what to do and had the balls to fire their firearms. Trump radicals are nothing but a bunch of brainless, impulsive sock puppets.
ETA was killing on an almost daily basis, they thought it was the only way to stop that and restore the order Nothing to do with the paranoia that people had of Trump who by the way has been troubled since 2015
