Urban Creatures

  • Imagine if the animals we encounter every day could tell us about life in the city? Urban Creatures is a lighthearted look at the world from an animal’s perspective. Is a dog’s life really all that great? What are the cognitive skills of a fish? What does a cat think about when she looks out the window?
This anthropomorphic take on animal behavior is a bit of an homage to Creature Comforts, created for a class assignment in the Digital Culture program at the University of Bergen, in Norway. While the facts are based on academic research, it is pretty clear that animals don’t talk and behave like us. At least when we are around. So take this video with a grain of salt. It is all in fun.
Once again, this video strays pretty far from my usual posting. Honestly, it was an excuse to learn how to use Adobe's Character Animator software. And to bug a few friends to channel their inner dog, cat, mouse or fish. I hope you find it engaging. At least now you can see why I haven't been able to post the next episode in my Norway series.

That dumb fish is a really good philosopher.

Easily digestible and also important! Many contexts are lost through unwilful ignorance.
Birds definitely have prospered off humans - at least some species - and cats definitely belongs/should be able to be outside.
Of course, cats are a natural and historical part of the ecosystem in Norway. In many other countries, too.
Of course rats and mice thrive too when cats "aren't allowed" outside and that's how you get pest outbreaks if not careful or pay extra attention to hygiene levels.
I am strictly for leaving as little imprint as possible on our immediate nature and vicinity. It makes everything more enjoyable, too.

Loved this! My favorite character was definitely the racoon, loved the extra bit of spunk, and the Disney princess sounding blue bird was a perfect compliment / balance. This was thoroughly entertaining and educational. Love the mix of cartoon and real life. Hope you got an A!

Ask Darcy next time you talk with her to do the bird voice. It is how she talks to Ruby.
