- On November 20, 1968 US forces began “Operation Meade River”. This engagement targeted an area 10 miles south of Da Nang called "Dodge City" by the troops because of its shoot-em-up characteristics. Intelligence had determined that remaining elements of the decimated VC Doc Lap Battalion, along with other under strength VC units and several hundred NVA (North Vietnamese Army) troops, were again massing in the area.
My uncle was with F/2/3 was KIA on May 9th during the Hill fights

I’m a retired Marine Corps Gysgt who had 3 tours in 🇻🇳 Vietnam. I walked in 3 times but only walked out once. I’m now a 100%VA and a amputee. But I would do it all over again. I loved my Brothers ❤

My Dad was 82nd airborne enlisted and my father in law was 101st drafted, crazy stories, great men. I hope younger people see some of this stuff and learn about it, especially how some of the veterans were treated afterwards, and nobody knowing what PTSD was or how to treat it for a modern war at the time. My father in law’s daughter died of cancer at 21 which was traced to his exposure to agent orange, these guys dealt with never before seen issues AFTER coming home, it’s nice to see some more light shed on it.
God bless your Dad and father in law and ever Man that fought and died in Vietnam. PS the US Military didn't lose in Vietnam the media lost it for them. From England.
PTSD? Horrible. Do some reading on WW1 vets. Talk about a meat grinder. My grandfather was a WW1 veteran. He did not speak about it much, but when he did, it was to describe HELL. He was wounded at 2nd Ypres. 2nd Ypres is infamous for the first use of poison gas as a weapon of mass destruction. On Canadian troops.

4 months after we were married my husband was flown out to meet his ship in Vietnam. I was in nursing school and I was so devastated that I had to take time off so I could get my thoughts together! I was the only married woman in my class, out of my home state
My brother, Marine Recon in Nam. Knowing Marines I do understand their values. Their beliefs in a cause.
My uncle was a Marine WWII. My other uncle Navy, Korea.

My brother was there in 1966 supporting the grunts as part of a 106 recoilless platoon 1/7.
First Force Recon 68-69 An Hoa. So thankful for the chopper pilots that saved us lots of times

Seems to me after the Marines called in for none stop Artillery Bombing on the mountain. Then after a hour the North Vietnamese Army would start shooting randomly with sniper fire. This means the North Vietnamese Army was going deep under ground into under ground cities with tunnels. They perhaps would wait for the bombing to stop. Then come out and do random sniper fire. No matter how much bombs hit the area. The bombs could not effect the under ground tunnels and under ground cities. Simply amazing .
I was in the Corps from 64-68 but was never sent to Vietnam. I have the highest respect for the Marines who fought in that God-forsaken shithole.
The only people that forgot commitments to Vietnam was the United States Congress! 75 they cut off for Aid to the country!
Foreshadowed Afghanistan! Only difference is we left more money in that country! $85 billion in military equipment! Afghanistan has one hell of an army just ask the Taliban.

You keep saying that these operations were to keep the 324B division from infiltrating, but you leave out the 325 division and a regiment who supported the 324. I can’t remember the regiments name, but they were the trained sappers who spearheaded the NVA divisions night assaults and assisted in other types of actions

Tunnels help the NVA vanish. They were undetected at this point of the conflict. Didn’t seem fair to have an intelligent enemy.

Jim, I went back to Viet Nam 40 years after fighting there. I did the tourist thing and went to Marble Mountain after visiting Hill 55 where I had spent most of my time while in country. I was really surprised how many Viet Cong had been inside the caves on Marble Mountain. According to the guide on top of the mountain, there was a staging area there for Viet Cong and many of their wounded were treated inside these caves. Did you see any of this or was it cleared by '67?
Nothing cleared AT THAT TIME. I UNDERSTAND there was a VC, AND NVA HOSPITAL INSIDE AND BEHIND THE PAGODA OF MARBLE MOUNTAIN. I WAS OUTSIDE OF MARBLE MOUNTAIN BY 2 MILES GUARDING A RADIO RELAY STATION ALL SAND. I DID GO UP ON THE CROWS NEST NEXT TO MARBLE MOUNTAIN AS I WAS A 106 MM SQUAD LEADER. NEVER HAD ANY DESIRE TO GO BACK. I JUST SAW PICTURES ON TH-cam I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW TOURISTY IT IS NOW UNRECOGNIZABLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.@@johnhelm7090

Little miss leading, the Rock Pile was not large enough for more then a squad of marines if that many, it was a radio relay shot from VANDERGRIF TO Dong HA, mayby their thinking of Dang Ha Mountain fire support base?

We (3/9 3rd Mar Div.) were constantly finding Chinese and Russian weapons/ammo in and around Quang Tri Province in 66 & 67. Had lots of Russian 120mm rockets dropped on our hill 2 clicks north of Camp JJ Carroll. Lots of those rockets were duds. That's how we knew they were Russian. We would also find cachs of stored Chinese/Russian ammo. The Chinese and the Russians were indeed supplying the North Vietnamese.

Guys in the vid have M-16's, if they were supposed to be on Prairie, they did not get M-16's till Spring of '67. On Hastings, we were at the Rockpile, it was a bare bones encampment at the bottom of the Rockpile in Aug. '66, recon guys supposedly had a place up topside, it probably did get built out, but, it sure was not on Hastings, and I bet it was pretty spartan on the Prairie operations. Did a Carib cruise on the Guam, '67-'68. Entire Marine Bn. a top the Rockpile? Yeah, right, if a Bn. was whittled down to about 2 squads, this vid is B.S. The Rockpile was out in the middle of nowhere, not at all near CamLo. Actually South West of CamLo, by many, many miles, look it up on a map. Hill 851? How about 861?

His 2nd tour was 67-68 and mainly was hill fights and khe sahn. He was on 881s with capn Dabney as an sniper with h and s co i believe
We know that. They were army troops, mostly. Army was not up by us until they were getting ready for Pegasus.

Poorly crafted documentary. Lost me when the Marine called a Corpsman a medic!
I was a Corpsman in 1969 and 1970 and served with the Fifth Marines 1/5 Delta and Bravo companies and when I try to explain what a Corpsman is I often use the term medic, everyone knows what a medic is only a Marine knows what a Corpsman is.
I was a young kid of 18 when I joined the USAF at the tail end of Vietnam, and I strongly believed our presence in Vietnam was to defend the Vietnamese people who did NOT... want to be under atheistic Communism, an atheistic belief that had no problem violating peoples basic God-given rights. So this Rakestraw fellow's opinion of the Vietnam conflict was not the same attitude many veterans I knew and spoke with had. And that included not just USAF vets, but also Army and Marine Vietnam vets.
That's why I don't care much for videos like this, because often those behind Vietnam war documentaries ultimately push the globalist one-world order views, which one of their strategies is to downplay American patriotism and support for doing what is right. I mean this Rakestraw fellow was perfect for them, 'made-to-order', to fit the American doubts over the reason for the U.S. getting involved in Vietnam. And if he didn't think he was serving the flag of the United States of America when he went, then maybe he should have gone north to Canada with the rest of the draft dodgers. The globalist video sponsers must have loved to hear him say that junk with claiming he and his fellow-marines weren't fighting for the U.S. flag.
I remember the difference between two interviews. One was a classic interview of a marine complaining about the Tet Offensive, saying the whole thing. stinks. Then I saw another interview of a marine cooly stating when asked why did he run out to save a Marine he stated “I’m a marine that’s my job” while calmly puffing on a cigarette. I realized as a young man 30 years ago the media can present any image they
want. I mean, how many interviews did they have to go through before they found the disheartened Marine before they spoke with him?
