My husband and I visited Hearst Castle in 1978. You can even see a few of the zebras & other animals cared for on the property. The ocean view and landscape is truly beautiful and breathtaking❣️Thanks Jordan for sharing this extensive tour with us. Thoroughly enjoyed this video at night. The actors added to the ambiance of the vlog. ❤️🙏🏻
I heard the reason that Hearst was so stingy with the alcohol wasn’t because he was a Scrooge but because Marion Davies was a dependent alcoholic and he didn’t want others to be drinking when she was recovering.
I used to work at Hearst Castle and was on the team that initiated the Evening Tours, Jordan, thanks for the wonderful flash back. It’s such a magical place and I really need to find time t get back there.
@@djguillyd None and I don’t recall any real discussions about any paranormal activities. Not that it’s necessary for a ghost to haunt somewhere that I know of…but I don’t recall every hearing of anyone having died at the castle.
I see the Hearst Castle does not disappoint. Wow. Everything is so beautiful and shown beautifully---night and day---lights are lit, it is inviting, and the grounds are immaculate and manicured. I lived half of my life in southern California, and unfortunately never made a trip up to see it. Thank you Jordan the Lion for these tours! Had I been Wm. Randolph Hearst, I would have been buried there.
I visited Hearst Castle in 1989. Honestly feel that after viewing this and the John Forsyth narrated tour Vlog, people will be somewhat disappointed to visit it themselves. You are taken 5 miles up to the castle by bus. Very organized.
Jordan, your photography is wonderful, zooming in for closeups of all the many architectural details. Better than some "professional" documentaries I've seen. I've been to Hearst Castle twice: in 1961 when it was barely open to the public, and again in 1996 when I got to see all the rooms you just showed us and a few more guest cottages. Three books all aficionados of La Cuesta Encantada should read are: "Lulu In Hollywood" by Louise Brooks; "Slim: Memories of a Rich and Imperfect Life" by Slim Keith; and "The Moon's A Balloon" by David Niven. If you can find it, Sheila Weller wrote an article about Patricia Van Cleve, the secret daughter of Marion Davies and William R. Hearst, and their descendants. This was called "The Legacy Of San Simeon" in the 1996 Vanity Fair Hollywood edition, out in April, I think. This may be in a collection of her work somewhere. "Lulu" details the escapades of Hollywood's Bright Young Things of the 1920's, and their ringleader in mayhem, Pepi Lederer, Marion Davies' niece. Pepi could break all of WR's rules with impunity and she did. I won't spoil anything, but I really urge anyone who loves Jordan's San Simeon videos to read these juicy books and enjoy.
Anytime day or night the Hearst Castle is cool to see. Put a nice perspective on the “social atmosphere” with the character actors there. Plus each tour guide puts their own perspective and antidotes of the history. Glad you (we) got to see it again!
I remember how grateful I was that he was rich enough to be able to build this castle and decorate it with beautiful ancient paintings, ceilings, and furnishings from all over the world. These things are preserved and well cared for. For all to see, wondrous and wonderful! My favorite of all is the underground pool, blue and gold tiles. Yes, real gold. The diving platform. The elegance of it all. To swim in that would be the most awesome experience of my life!
Would you be so grateful if you were standing in those soup lines? He ducked property taxes so the government couldn't even help the people as much during the Great Depression. It's all pure selfishness. Look at what Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have given to the world. So very few wealthy people do the right thing with their wealth. I've come to hate rich people quite deeply who don't do good in the world.

I want to go so slow and scrutinize every detail, lol. The building is so beautiful in the golden light, the sounds of the fountain and the birds, the landscaping, everything was just so gorgeous.
Spent many summers on what used to be a campground below by the ocean. Took every tour they did there, near the campground was a small store. There was a small house near the store where we met a man that used to be the caretaker for Hearst ranch. The buildings across the street from the store is where Hearst used to store statues. He said there were still statues there (1970's) that were never used. He had some very interesting stories to tell.
OH this was wonderful ! So glad you did the night tour. Love seeing the people (actors?) in the rooms. And fun seeing the kitchen. I am amazed at how cozy it feels to me considering how large it is.
Wow this place is amazing I can only imagine the staff that was employed there. The cleaning, the cooking, the up keep of the grounds etc... Hi Jordan. I was up to Hearst Castle years ago when I was in High School and can't remember much of my visit other than the outside. You did such a great job filming this tour...it's so great to revisit such an important place in the 20th Century history of California and frankly the United States, as the Hearst Company was a huge media machine. Your channel is so great...I've been binge-watching during COVID!

I live in Fresno, Ca, and there are two mansions up here worth seeing. One is Kerney Mansion and the other is the Meux house. They were both built by Confederate doctors after the Civil war, and the best time to see them is around Christmas or Easter, and they have both houses dressed to the nines!!!
Jordan, I loved watching every minute. I have been to Hearst Castle a couple of times and each is memorable for different reasons. Different times of the year and different times of the day did make a difference- all good. Our family took a month long driving trip out west during the '70's and we visited here. Back then, you had a choice of either an inside tour OR an outside tour. We took the outside tour and saw both the outdoor and indoor pools. Back then the outside pool was filled with 💦 water and it was truly awesome! Sad that it isn't operational now. Jordan, I thought it was cool seeing the characters even though they didn't interact much. I think it helps taking the world of the 1920's and putting it in color in our minds! Well worth seeing both tours.
I cannot wrap my mind around this. It was so interesting to see what a person of wealth defines himself in building his home. Did his mistress and wife live in this house together? So incredible and awe-inspiring! I love all of it, the architecture, style, music, stories and history and ofcourse his keen sense of eluding California state property taxes! ;)
This commentary is being thrown to my x-husband; Gary f. Weiland. I landed in Los Angeles and & Monterey Calif. Grew up in Malibu & Santa Monica. We once had gone to buy tickets for the tour of the castle. We purchased tickets for the next day, as they were closed that day. A total waste of money. We never returned to the castle because he never liked long drives. The drive up the old p c h highway was not only so pictures but also very historical!!! The only data I've come across was through the novelest "Alice Marble". Title is " Courting danger". She was a 🎾 Tenn is player! She writes: about her escapdes & many visits to the castle with her good friend Carole Lombard. Alice was an athlete trying to recover from what now is called CFS. Chronic fatigue syndrome. She loved to interact with William r. Heast, & he would often post movie screenplays at her hoping she would perform for the people at his parties! They remained good friends. Miss Marble also coached Billy Jean King. Thanks for my long awaited tour : only about 35 years too late. P.s. they did not conduct night tours back then!!!!! Most likely before this psyer was born. Sorry Mister 🦁 lion !!!

It would have been cool for your vlog. You would have loved it. Maybe someday soon it will be. This tour, however, was great. Never saw the interior and we were there for a full exhausting day! Thank you for taking us with you, and for your keen attention to detail (as always.)
Jaw droppingly Goregous !! Wow wow wow! Love it 😍
I have been fascinated with this place since high school, thank you for so much for the tour! ❤️
And how did that work between them? It amazes me to see such beautiful places! Thanks Jordan. I love so loved our vlogs.
The whole house is beautiful, but I really like the library!!
I was just there touring Hearst Castle in September with my mom and sister my first time seeing it it’s so beautiful 😍 thank you for another amazing vlog and thank you for letting me come along on your adventure keep up the great work. 🌸
Ooh, been there yrs ago.Thank you so much for refreshing my memory!
WOW !! No undermining the Hearst Castle. Inside en outside. Man on a mission.
What a treat Jordan ! Thank you so much for sharing these amazing experiences! Love you Jordan and Jah !
That tour cant be cheap, with all the hired actors they used. But its a nice touch that makes the place feel alive.
My jaw dropped seeing this. Happy new year
My grandfather was 14 when the Great Depression happened. A lot of my distant family is in California, I'm in Texas. I never got to ask my grandfather about it, but it would be neat to visit.
Awesome vlog Jordan, you're just a good as the guide that took you on the tour. I'd go on a guided tour with you anytime, too bad I live in Winnipeg! Keep up the great work and hugs to Jah!
Some of the reenactors look as old as some of the actual artifacts! LOL
Well done Jordan! I've always wanted to see Hearse castle and take the tour. Due to health issues this wasn't possible. Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience ❤️.
