Almost every person these days gets offended 24-7 by something that is completely insignificant or just ridiculous, why should we even take that into account anymore.
I'm not sure that the death of 100+ million people between 1881-1920 in India is trivial or insignificant. Conveniently scrubbed out of textbooks as well.

I am a Pakistani-Canadian. and I believe Churchill was a hero for Great Britain. He was the ideal leader for the nation at his time. War was looming upon Europe and his strategic leadership and intelligence helped defeat the Nazis. Albert Einstein also had opinions of the ethnic races that would be considered 'racist' today, but regardless of your 'feelings' there is no doubt, that Einstein too, was a great mind in science and physics. The English have created a civilisation that is an inspiration to the world and they set standards for the third world and developing nations to follow, whether you admit it or not, the scientific and political leaders of western nations helped achieve the advanced civilisations we see today, therefore they should be deemed heroes. All the other countries on earth are either communist, caste-based, tribalistic or politically/intellectually/morally corrupt in comparison to the western civilisation (created by the Brits). This is why the western civilisation is the preferred choice for immigration by ethnic minorities. Despite the wars and colonialism, the western nations are have proved to be superior to other countries because they value knowledge, nature and justice. They do a better job in treating their citizens with humanity and living peacefully and their justice system is more transparent. Other nations do not have the same level of transparency or humility and tend to have wide gaps between the rich and poor due to their casteism, class-isms and egotistic tribal cultures.
This is how western indoctrination works....

Britain just took a lot of punches like a punching bag from Hitler , and Hitler lost interest in that tiny island , and that just saved Britain.

To say that Britain was insignificant is quite a bad statement. You do have to realise that as most of the continent was pretty much under Axis occupation, you had this bastion of Allied resistance separated only by a small stretch of sea, yet it was an Allied fortress. The Soviets were definitely fighting the Germans very seriously and in great numbers, though on a different front. Britain did contribute a lot to the war, even if not as much as the USSR. But it is important to note that post-WW2, Britain was slowly losing its position as a global superpower, and was succeeded by the USA and USSR. You could even say that the Germans partially achieved what they wanted Britain to be, as Britain suffered a lot after WW2 dealing with damages, financial collapse and the loss of it’s dominance. But I must say Britain was not a mere punching bag, it was a puncher.

Issue with the reparations arguement is that it wouldn't help anyone, and if anything would make the entire world worse. How much money should be given to be "fair" to both sides?
The side asking for reparations would just keep pushing for more and more to bleed countries like Britain dry. They also would most likely become dependent on Britain to prop up their country with funding. A good portion of the "reparations" would most likely be syphoned off into politians' bank accounts and not be used to actually help. Being dependent on countries like Britain to fund a country would be little different to the dependence they had while they were a colony which I would think is a step backwards from bringing the world to be better.
Winston Churchill is a hero but unfortunately a racist too. I do respect the man even though he probably wouldn’t respect me. He should be celebrated for his contributions in WWII and criticized for his racist beliefs too

I’m from Trinidad, I live in America now and I can tell you that every one of those Caribbean countries owes gratitude to Britain because all the infrastructure and government is a complete copy of the British government. Reparations for what have you ever been to Haiti.

@@RandomKun As a leader hard decisions have to be made. Defeating fascism was crucial in preventing the deaths of millions more people. I don't think Churchill can be held solely responsible. Were more local leaders and wealthy landowners of the area not able to perform charity and help feed or facilitate getting food. Everyone always wants a colonial bogeyman. Africa, Indian subcontinent... you name it. It's someone else's fault. Maybe that's why you lag behind Europe in every conceivable way.

@@laurancegama2138 I don't understand how either of the things you said in this comment refute the idea that Winston Churchill was a great man? Yes, a lot of Indians and Africans fought in WWII. However 1) the claim that the overwhelming majority of the allied army consisted of Indian and African soldiers is abjectly false, and 2) Churchill LEAD the war effort. He may not have been on the battlefield, but he was responsible for the tactics and strategy which won us the war. Furthermore, I don't understand what our royal family being of German origin has to do with any of this? The House of Hanover rose to power in Britain in 1714, over two hundred years before WWII.

If you apply those principles to Jimmy saville u could say well he did loads for charity so let's gloss over the fact his was a ln abuser and call him a a hero. U can't pick and choose where u apply a principle otherwise it becomes prejudice. So yes Churchill was a hero but he was equally a racist, sexist, white supremacist and played a big role in killing 3million Indians that is factual and documented. So if you can gloss over his atrocities with his heroics surely by that you should weigh people's good deeds against their bad to gauge whether they are heroes or villains?

Morgan twisted this around to make out that his opponent hated Britain, straying so far from what the debate was originally about. This was to deflect from the fact that he was losing the debate and to try and let the populous see that he was pro Brit. Saying that Churchill was an extreme racist who cost millions of lives needlessly is factually correct. He also didn't win any war for Britain. He chomped on cigars and drinks brandy throughout all this. Hero? Not a hope. If the British people had rallied around him to the extent that Morgan projects, then he wouldn't have lost the subsequent general election
His loss of the election is nothing to do with his ability to rally the British population to continue they fight against the nazis and also he become prime minister again in 1951 and after that some people wanted back during the 60s but by then he was far too old

He made a few decent speeches, but they meant nothing to the hundreds of thousands of brave young men being used as fodder for the Germans.
