    The shoes that you walk the Camino de Santiago with are the most important gear decision you will make on your Camino de Santiago Packing list. Walking in the wrong shoes can result in terrible blisters, tired feet, and other injuries that can even end your Camino.

    Meant to tell you: these shoes you wore on the Ingles, well, we checked them out and found them super comfy. My husband got himself a black pair and I went for mint green. Only, I haven‘t done an awful lot of walking in them yet as I’‘m currently exploring a bit of the Iron Curtain Trail by bike near where I life. Never did that before. Interesting. Later in the year I‘ll post a video about it.
    Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the tip of those wonderful shoes. 😊

      I’m so happy that you gave it a try and agreed they are comfortable shoes. When our feet don’t hurt much we tend to walk farther, which is an absolutely plus when hiking.

    Hello, Just wanted to let you know that Altra makes a shoe called Olympus 5 hike low gtx which has Gore tex.
    The shoe is almost identical to the one you have been using it's a little stiffer but gives better arch support since it incorporates leather in the shoe to protect the Gore tex membrane. I have been using for the past 6 months both the normal Olympus 5 on sunny days and when it rains I used the Olympus 5 hike low. I live in Sweden where we have had a extremely rainy winter and my feet have always stayed dry. I just thought it may be something you might like to look into since you like the normal Altra Olympus 5 but at the same time are looking for a Gore tex shoe. The also make a Mid Boot, but I would stick with Hike Low shoe, your feet sweat less in the shoe and if for some reason the shoe should get wet then they are easier to dry. Finally I just want say I find both shoes to be excellent and I love the new vibram soles that both shoes have. I hope you find this comment useful. Best of wishes on your next Camino. Sincerely Lorenz

      Wow Lorenz, thanks for such awesome comment. Funny, I put the same shoes (gtx) that you mentioned in my Amazon cart and didn’t proceed with purchase. A lot of others mentioned about how goretex takes forever to dry and furthermore wet shoes turn to blisters. I ABSOLUTELY love this Olympus 5 and will definitely purchase the GTX for further Camino. Thanks for watching Lorenz.

    When I walked my Caminos, I did it in late winter… bits of leftover snow, sometimes icy patches and muddy sections … so I walked in Hanwag leather full ankle boots 🥾. Cannot remember, but I think they had goretex as well. My feet stayed dry, but they were heavy boots. On my recent bicycle Camino, which happened in late summer/ early autumn I used North Face venture fastlace gtx. Ok, I was on the bike most of the time, but there were sections where I had to push my bike for quite a bit and I was surprised how well they worked for me walking. Once I got them wet inside when I took this bottle shower on a cemetery in France (see my episode #25). Drying the shoes took forever and walking barefoot in wet shoes the next day got me some blisters … but it wasn’t too bad really. Love those shoes, but they don’t make them anymore … so just bought myself some North Face Craighoppers and so far they feel fine … don’t feel like they need breaking in.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Footwear is so important for a successful Camino. With the wrong one it can ruin the entire trip. It’s fun to find that pair to carry you miles and miles across Spain. For me personally, I enjoyed putting gears together for any Camino. Preparation is part of the Camino journey and I love testing and adjusting my Camino gears.

    Hey Tom, you already know my view, I am on my 4th pair of Altra Olympus. I did the Via Francigena and Del Norte in these and even though it was wet and muddy the Altras get dry quickly. People struggle with Goretex shoes/boots because they take longer to dry when they do get wet, and trust me irrespective of the shoe you will get wet feet. I tried waterproof socks once and they are not a great idea, like wearing surfing booties inside sweaty shoes. Choose the shoe that works best for you. The Olympus has great shock absorption on tar roads, and great grip on more slippery roads. Don't expect them to last more that 1000km though.

      Seeing you blazing daily on Camino Del Norte with those pair of Altra Olympus inspired me to give it a go for the Ingles. I agreed with you about the waterproof socks, they just don’t feel right. Goretex or not, when it rains you’re bound to get wet feet no matter how you waterproof it. I’ll take wet feet as part of the Camino experience. I’m happy with the Olympus and probably will stay faithful to it for future Camino. Thanks for your input Anton.

    Cool shoe collection. As someone who has never done a Camino, this is helpful. If I ever do, I'll need to keep these factors, in mind. How much road walking, rain, ankle considerations, etc. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for watching. One item that a peregrino should dial in is footwear. With proper pairs they will carry you miles and miles without issue. With the wrong pair then it will a nightmare and can ruin the entire trip. Everyone feet is different, find one that best suited for you.

      Thanks for watching James. Starting a week before you. Attempting to push for Finisterre if weather permits. The weather forecast looks promising, but in Galicia it’s hard to predict. Hope you’ll get sunshine everyday. Buen Camino.

    2:30 Well, you are quite flexible. I'm gonna stick with trail-run shoes. I went with Nike Pegasus II because it was on sale. AND let me remind you about WATERPROOF SOCKS, WATERPROOF SOCK! LOL

    • @Gettinglostonthetrail
      @Gettinglostonthetrail  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Waterproof socks seem like a wonderful idea, but they just don’t feel right. Trust me, I tried them and I opted for wet feet than the way it made me feel. I think trail runner is the way to go because they dry faster vs the goretex that will take forever to dry, and on the Camino we need them to dry fast to prevent blisters. My advise to all peregrino is never buy Camino gears full price, there’s always discount available, especially when it comes to footwear, backpack, and clothing. Camino can be done on the thrifty end and there’s nothing wrong with it. You’ll still get to experience the Camino without a dent in your pocket. Thanks for your input Farmer.

    For may what on primitivo, what do you think about converse tall sneakers?

    • @Gettinglostonthetrail
      @Gettinglostonthetrail  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hiking shoes preferably because it has more traction. Lots of up and down on the Primitivo. Always size your shoe half or full size bigger. If you’re not sure about your shoes, then try them on and hike 15-20 km and you’ll see if it can handle it. My wife did the the entire Camino Frances in sandal. You do what is best and work for you. Good luck finding the right pair for your hike.
