I grew up with the Mexican dub that was in all Latin American countries (except Brazil) and now I'm watching it with the Viz dub, they did a great job.
I actually have the talk boxes (I grew up with the Mexican dub), & they've stayed behind with the Venus talk box. So far they've only officially released the first 2 seasons (Talk Box Moon - Talk Box Jupiter). They're a great quality & they look amazing! :)
I feel like crying when I watch the Latin Spanish dub. It brings back so many fond memories of the 90s. I was watching the original English dub around the same time and I was always confused as to why the music was different and why there were scenes not in the DiC dub. Up until the ViZ dub came around I stuck to the Mexican dub since it was much more faithful to the original, even more than the former. (Besides using the American names for some of the characters of course.)
I love my sailor moon talk boxes , especially for limited edition it's like $20! That's like a very good and cheap price for a limited edition and I love 💓💓 I got mines at the mall in Mexico (,:

I can see why my friend doesn't notice the ghosting on the Viz version to be all that bad. And BTW I totally forgive the 'dream sequences' for that, as I believe that kind of thing is intentional, as most cartoons usually will do that for ethereal dream sequences, though that's much more rare. Also, the particular bit of ghosting that you pointed out is not at all noticeable in motion... reason being is I didn't even notice it until you brought it up and then I went back in the video a bit and saw it. Still isn't quite that noticeable though. Sorry. I'll probably buy this and future sets, and leave the "potato" set to those people who are that hung up on video quality as to notice things that are either there to begin with artistically (dream sequences) or not really that noticeable unless you're really hunting for it.
To me it does not look like a big problem. The only Time I see Ghosting is when I pause it. When I play it, I don't really see anything that bothers me. As for the Colors Yes you can tell there is a Difference but once again that dos not Bother me.
Honestly the latino dub for some reason just sounds so perfect tone wise xD I love the viz dub but the latino dub feels perfect as it is aside from the changes in names but overall it was nice

Im actually ok with the Viz release. I've been watching the dub episodes on Hulu and I can notice the ghosting on Hulu as well. Maybe Im already used to it now that I dont really care lol. For me personally I dont really mind it. Its better than nothing and Sailor Moon never having an official uncut English release with an uncut dub. There are some parts that may look sharp then blurry one second later. The one thing that bothers me a bit is how white looks kinda pink-ish on random scenes but because of it's age I dont really mind it that much overall. Im still getting and supporting the Viz release sense I dont have the series in anyway shape or form yet and Im really liking the new dub too.
Woooow the Mexican DVDs...omg the quality is SO much better than the ViZ media one :/ which is kind of sad.. and the packaging is so much better than the ViZ media one too. Ugh now I'm all disappointed with the ViZ set.

***** Yeah, everyone has unrealistic expectations for this old release. Because if they're like me they did the math and added that the series will run them about $500-$550 (using Rightstuf.com prices). Their criticism is only hurting Viz and will make Viz regret trying and will drop the series and they do drop releases the moment it starts to become a loss for them. I noticed the same is for Italy, France, and even Mexico releases. They even had the same plans as Viz. So deja vu says this happened before and it will continue to because unrealistic expectations. I trust Viz and the company they hired for this. That trust comes from the great work they did on Ranma 1/2. So they're really is no one to blame, except for Toei taking bad care of their works. I don't think Toei lied to them and I don't think Viz would lie to us. Customer loyalty is really important in this niche.
Personally, I find that the Mexican DVDs are of higher quality, even when compared to the American Blurays. The Spanish DVDs have the same exact quality as the Japanese R2 dvds, but there is a lot of grain in the picture, typical of anime at the time. The American DVDs do not have grain and this is due to the fact that Viz removed much of the grain in the picture. However, in doing so, they also lost sharpness and much of the fine details. I also noticed a few compression issues in the American release as well. Think I will just stick with the Mexican dvds and Mexican dub, which I adore! :) I heard the SMR American set is a bit more improved. Hope that helps.

Viz media should have never gotten sm in the first place. They really don't care about it. Everything from some of the casting choices for the dub seem weird with a couple exceptions, to the fact they released half of the first season years before the second half. Im not buying their crap I'll probably buy it bootleg due to the fact I'm black and we buy bootleg shit lol. :P
I'm sorry but... Alje, love you girl and love your that you take the time to review for us, but that is a terrible comparison. First, a word to those that are not familiar with video: That is not ghosting, that is called BLENDED FRAMES, and that scene was meant to be like that. Thats a dream sequence and its in slow motion as artistic design - which gives it that blended frames "look". It's like that in the Japanese, Italian, French, German, and USA version as well. Some scenes were made like that throughout the series The sources look nothing like that (and it's probably due to your camera). That's not the original voice for Usagi from the Mexican version, I mean from the recording of the talk box. Her voice was higher pitched and didn't sound like that, they probably got a different voice actor to do it. Nice video, and the colors and the lines looked better on the Mex ver than the VIZ ver. lasthaven7 The saturation isn't as bad as the first one. I couldn't see any ghosting on the first half anyway, but I looked pretty close at the second half and I didn't see anything. They did get rid of the pillar boxing ont he dvds.
are you sure this is a region 4 dvd set? Aije Tortilla your xbox shouldn't of been able to play them lol. i thought someone told me they were either regionless or region 1. either way, i dont see a huge difference. all that is very noticeable is that the viz blurays look darker in color. i dont think thats contrast or saturation but a definite color change to make them darker. and obviously some ghosting here and there. if the only difference is color than i dont see how the mexican version is just superior. because the color isnt bad on the viz media set. the saturation is a whole other issue as is the ghosting. but in the end its just a notch below the mexican release.
I just got season 2 part 2 and I think the video quality was actually noticeably bad this time. I only got the DVD, since the blurays I have for the last sets weren't much better. The 3rd disc came shattered too, and I had to go back and get an exchange. I think there's still an issue with the audio on the second disc and VIZ hasn't sent out replacements yet. I hope madman does a better job with their remaster so I don't have to pay out the ass for the Kaze germany sets.
+Taryn M To get a replacement disk for Season 2 Part 2, you have to call Warner Bros. and they'll send you the disk for free. It'll take a few weeks though.
Her handheld camera is making ghosting in both, because it's capturing the image of different rate. :( Only way we could see it, is if she did a Frame by frame freeze, Or record the computers Screen.
Besides mentioning the 'ghosting', I have to say that this was a terrible example. Usage of webcam, your movements, low lighting, a dream sequence. If I may speculate. I do believe VIZ had good intentions with their release of Sailor Moon; this franchise is likely costing them a huge sum. They stated Toei were the ones that gave them _this_ version. This isn't the first time Toei did this, if anyone remembers the fiasco with ADV? So either Toei is doofing around and intentionally distributing out lower rez prints to oversea companies or they just didn't take care of the prints. It is already know that there is a fierce attempt to discourage Japanese fans from importing anime DVDs from other regions and the reasons are (for example) North American releases having more DVDs that are affordable in pricing and give a good listing of episodes per release. As oppose to 1 to 2 per DVD with a domestic Japanese release.

Does anybody know when Sailor moon S Volume 2 will be out? I wanna invest in these sets but Volume 1 came out like over a year ago. Did they stop releasing the series???
They're planning on realeasing volume 2 this year(2016) but they don't have a date yet since economy has been rough in Mexico and they're paying the rights for the anime in American dollars,it will be a little more expensive for them to acquire those rights.
