Hello Creeps! Today I wanted to compare M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin horror movie to the book it is based from, The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. I am very curious how you feel about the book and the movie. Let me know!

I just finished reading this book and I didn't even notice the perspective because I was so engrossed in the story and by the end I wasn't even sure if the world was ending or not but I still really enjoyed the book!

Picked up this book today at a used book store because I remembered hearing you speak about it! I can’t wait to read it! Just had to find this video to say THANK YOU for all the awesome book recs! You’re always in the back of my mind while browsing bookstores! ❤️

Small detail about the grasshoppers, there were seven grasshoppers and seven people. I think it was symbolic. They were trapped in a jar like the people were trapped in the cabin.

Thank you for making this channel, I just got back into reading and I had no idea this movie was based on a book. Definitely gonna go read it instead of watching the film. Used to be a big M Night fan but honestly I don’t think he’s been able to make anything good for years and years now. The Sixth Sense was amazing, Unbreakable was good (a little silly), but it’s just been all downhill since then. He doesn’t seem to be capable of subtlety anymore. This story sounds awesome though, so I’ll definitely read. Thanks again, so glad to have found your channel 🤗✨

I agree 100% with every point you made!! Movie was fine but low key boring (and should have been gory!) and didn’t give the devastating factor that the book gave. And the book was amazing and written so well! Definitely ambiguous :)

Very interesting hearing the differences between the two and looking up some of it myself. I don’t think I like the end to either haha. Great video 👍

I read the book and liked it, but felt a bit let down by the ending. Was hoping for more. Was really hoping M would change the ending. Either way, sounds like I’ll be let down 😢

Yes!!! I HATED the ending. Paul Tremblay has really disappointed me with his multitude of "ambiguous endings"

I loved A Head Full of Ghosts, so I picked up Cabin and his book of short stories, Growing Things. I should have stopped at Head Full of Ghosts. I don't understand the Paul Tremblay idolatry... He loves the persona that he is the guy who writes "ambiguous endings." I don't mind that once in a while, but I find that to be very lazy writing... It's like "I have a really good idea but don't know how to end it so figure it out for yourself".

Cabin at the End of the World is a much more dynamic title. It's so weird it was changed to such a boring one.

I feel like the title may have been changed so people didn’t think it was a SciFi? When I saw the book title I presumed it was a SciFi book with a kinda dystopian theme? Maybe they wanted something that sounded more like a typical horror. Although I wouldn’t say this was a horror movie but oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is an interesting point. That very well could be.

I didn’t read the book as it didn’t interest me, but watched the film as my girlfriend wanted to see it and I absolutely hated it 😭 At the beginning they say if you don’t do X then Y will happen and then that’s what happens 🤷🏻‍♀️ There were no twists, no surprises, it was very straight forward and I found it so boring. We were told what was going to happen and then just watched it happen. Really disappointed 😞

Yeah, I think the book added a lot more complexity with the characters choices and their inner dialogue that is missing from the movie. I was really disappointed too, but I had a feeling he was going to take a great book and turn it into a mediocre film.

I don't wanna complain too much but nowadays any kind of adaptations seems to not follow the source material on purpose,. for example andrzej sapkowski work, the man has written these beautiful books just for Netflix to laugh at them. anyway great video as always thanks.
